Examples Of Blockbuster
Theory 3
There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that must
not be assaulted. Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it should not
be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or detected
easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of gaining the
desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that, something that
seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone walks into the trap
looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This theory was applied by
Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief Executive Officer of
Blockbuster, Jim Keyes, was interested in enhancing their retail business by purchasing Circuit City,
an electronic retailer company (Eaton, 2008). Therefore, he made an offer to ... Show more content on

If everything works out perfectly, it would be nice to see the product of the combination of
Blockbuster and Circuit City. However, in reality, things just would not work that way, especially in
this modern era where everything in the market changes rapidly, and nobody can predict what is going
to happen next. Even in this situation, Blockbuster still did a good job by analysing the market
carefully and making their decision wisely. At the time when the offer is announced to the public,
many opinions from analysts flooded in, with majority agreeing that the offer is bad (Jacobs and Paul,
2008). They are lucky enough to found the problems before it is too late. Although Keyes had a
wonderful envision of the future of the affiliation, he decided to give up on the offer and take the safe
route in order to prevent their company from falling into a black

Frederic Bastiat Essay
Frederic Bastiat (1801 1850) was a French classical economist, statesman, and author. He did most of
his writing during the years before and after the Revolution of February 1848. This was the period
when France was rapidly turning to complete socialism. As a Deputy to the Legislative Assembly, Mr.
Bastiat was studying and explaining each socialist fallacy as it appeared. And he explained how
socialism must inevitably degenerate into communism. But most of his countrymen chose to ignore
his logic. The fight against socialism drained Bastiat s already fading energy, and by 1850 a mere six
years alter his first published article and only two since his election to the National Assembly he was
on his deathbed. But far from being a flash in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many philosophers have made important contributions to the discourse on liberty, Bastiat among
them. But Bastiat s greatest contribution is that he took the discourse out of the ivory tower and made
ideas on liberty so clear that even the unlettered can understand them. Like others, Bastiat recognized
the greatest single threat to liberty is government.
Law, according to Bastiat, is the collective organization of the individual right to lawful defense (pg.
2). Bastiat starts off saying that the basic gifts man has from God, it exists only to do what individuals
have a right to do: protect their persons, their liberties and their properties. Bastiat gave the same
rationale for government as did our Founders, saying, Life, liberty and property do not exist because
men have made laws. On the contrary, it is the fact that life, liberty and property existed beforehand
that caused men to make laws in the first place. No finer statements of natural or God given rights
have been made than those found in our Declaration of Independence and The Law. The law was
created to ensure that individuals in society were allowed to use these gifts. Justice is achieved only
when injustice is absent (pg. 12).When the law is used for more than these three goals, the law
becomes an instrument of injustice. Similar to the use of the law is abused by the greed and false

Medecins Frontieres
Everyone deserves medical help whether they live in an emerging nation or in the heart of New York
City. This is what Bernard Kouchner thought when he created Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors
Without Borders. Medecins Sans Frontieres goes to third world countries and helps deliver free
medical aid to those in need. The amount of helpless people in third world countries shows that
without the aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres citizens would be without the medical assistance that they
deserve. The acts of Medecins Sans Frontieres results in the better being of others. This is
demonstrated through their tireless efforts, resulting in less people at risk. This is well presented, as
evident in the events of March 1999. The expulsion of ethnic ... Show more content on

While treating infected people Medecins Sans Frontieres takes readings, which are then sent off to a
microscopy lab for microscopy quality control testing and then tested for anything pertaining to the
medical issue at hand. MSF uses the traditional protocol of reexamining 10% of negative slides and all

this method delivers more data and doing so helps any Medecins Sans Frontieres team determine what
is and isn t working with their treatments. This same approach was used for the mental health services
department since March of 1998 in Bosnia. Group interventions were prefered because of the
secondary benefits of sharing and mutual support. MEdecins Sans Frontiers found that communities
were generally supportive of each other. (Jong). While nearly 300 miles apart the same data was
collected from differing victims. This proves how the organization improves the world through
research and development by showing how this organization collects and quality control checks data
using a less progressive method as to ensure more active and dependable data. This method of testing
multiple times is used everywhere but in a more advanced way with Medecins Sans Frontieres. As
shown when a Medecins Sans Frontieres team stationed in Bosnia discovered that victims are more
likely to talk in a group than alone. This same finding was also evident, found around the same time in
Kosovo. (Located by Serbia) The Medecins Sans Frontieres teams professed this information and as a
result a counselling element was added to all mobile clinics throughout Medecins Sans

Byzantine Empire Strengths
The definition of Byzantine is of, relating to, or characteristic of the ancient city of Byzantium . (cite
def.) The Byzantine Empire was an Empire located in Constantinople, Rome. This Empire had a
heavy influence on politics, economics and religious issues. The Byzantine Empire had many
strengths and weaknesses. Some strengths were political, military and economic strengths. The
strengths benefited the empire in many ways. One way the Byzantine Empire was benefited by their
strengths was by the ability to survive. The weaknesses were the conflict that devastated the empire
such as the iconoclastic controversy. The iconoclastic controversy pulled the Byzantine Empire apart
and created a rebellion. Another weakness was the dependency the Byzantines had on their allies this
caused the collapse of the Byzantine Empire. This essay will consist of Political strength, military
strength, economic strength, the religious importance to the Byzantine people, how icons were
introduced, start of the controversy, during the controversy, after the controversy and the collapse of
the Byzantine Empire.
The Byzantine Empire s political strength was one of the reasons why the empire lasted for more than

Byzantines. The Byzantines would worship icons in the churches, and in their homes. Some
Byzantines were iconoclasts and they felt that icons created idol worship, and felt that anyone who
worshiped icons should be persecuted. The iconoclastic controversy lasted for more than a century.

Summary and key role players.
Big mac: Inside the Mac Donald s empire is a documentary that was made on the 25th July 2007, it
tells us the history of Mac Donald s (the people who began it, how much their products costed, the
variety of products they had on the menu at that time) and how the empire of Mac Donald s grew to
become the Mac Donald s that is known today. It also shows us the 21st century owners of Mac
Donalds, how many Mac Donald s are around the world (the host goes to some of these Mac Donald s
and interview their managers and the managers show us how Mac Donald s operates every day, how
their products are made, how they treat their cutomers and employees). It also shows us interviews
with the employees of Mac Donald s and customers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why I m saying they are entrepreneurs is because entrepreneurs they saw an opportunity in
the market and they grabbed that opportunity with both hands. They took a risk and were creative
people (they were the first to realise that customers were impatient people that wanted what they
bought quickly. George Michelle is a leader (I m saying this because a leader is a person who works
along with his team, he doesn t issue tasks and just sit back and watch them perform the tasks. George
Michell in this documentary actually works along with his employees and he stands behind the
counter along with the employees and he takes some of the orders of Mac Donalds). Mac Donald s
uses an autocratic management style, this means that the manager is the one that makes all the
decisions. Mac Donald s is a franchise company, they listen and follow the rules and regulations the
franchisor places (we see this in the documentary when we look at when multiple of people taste the
Mac Donald s product to see whether they ve used the right ingredients. A franchisor states that all
Mac Donald s use the same ingredients). Mac Donald s in the olden days did not follow the King I
report, Mac Donalds only focused on generating profit, they didn t care about the community (people)
and the environment (planet). They also didn t follow the King II report, cause they didn t follow
some of these principles (e.g the Social Responsibility and Transparency), the reason why I m saying
they weren t social responsibility is because back in the days Mac Donald s only focused on profits
not the community (people). Mac Donald s were not transparent because even though they knew that
their products could cause Obesity, they didn t let the customers/consumers know that, they just
carried on selling their products till they had legal issues regarding their products (the super size me
documentary) then they started selling healthier

Greed In Abigail s
Introduction The cause of nearly all of humanity s conflicts and wrongdoings, from wars over land, to
massacres, to robberies can be traced back to one human vice: greed. This inherent hunger for
property, power, or wealth, can completely take over a person s life and lead to conflict and misery.
However, unlike physical hunger, which can be easily satisfied, greed is often intensified, not
mitigated by the attainment of what one desires. This self perpetuating nature of greed indicates that
the vice is not actually caused by the need for something, as hunger is, but rather the belief that one
deserves some object or quality more than everyone else. Thus a person s greed can only be satisfied
once that person has all of what he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that compassion can not only overcome greed for a specific commodity, but is capable of
conquering one s overall selfishness. Early on in the book, it is clear that Artemis s family is extremely
important to him. He worries about his sick mother and is constantly looking for news about his
missing father. This sympathy also extends to Butler and Juliet, who although not direct members of
the family, help to fill the role that Artemis s missing and insane parents cannot. The book makes this
clear in the statement, Artemis was the closest thing Butler had to a friend, and Butler was the closest
Artemis had to a father (Colfer 16). The empathy Artemis feels for these four family members: his
mother, his father, Butler, and Juliet, begins to weaken his greed very early on in his plot. This occurs
as soon as he sees the fairy he is about to kidnap. He thinks, Artemis saw the pain in the creature s
eyes as the hollow hypodermic plunged into her body. And for a moment he experienced misgivings.
A female. He hadn t expected that. A female, like Juliet, or Mother. Then the moment passed and he
was himself again (Colfer 76). In this instant, Artemis recognizes the fairy s pain only because of her
similarity to his family. His compassion for his mother and Juliet serve as a gateway for empathy and

Analysis Of Nelson Goodman s New Riddle Of Induction
Throughout this paper, I will simplify and explain Nelson Goodman s take with the problem of
induction. Nevertheless, a concept known as PUN, if proven true, has been asserted by many
philosophers to be the answer to such problem. However, this is where I will introduce and clarify
upon Goodman s New Riddle of Induction and its claim that PUN by itself is not enough to act as a
solution for this case. For starters, the problem is not that we know for sure that something is going to
happen, that is the case for deductive arguments. Instead, the problem in simple terms is that it is not
justifiable like that of deductive arguments. What I mean by this is, in deduction, if the premises are
true then the conclusion must be true, yet the same cannot be said for induction because it relies on
predicting what is going to happen based on the premises. However, we have to acknowledge this for
what it is, and instead come up with a way that proves that the premises in induction add support to
the conclusion. The problem is how exactly is that possible if nowhere does it say what happens in the
past will happen again in the future. Which now brings us to PUN or the Principle of Uniformity of
Nature that exactly states that instances in the future are going to look like instances in the past. Voila!
Since PUN offers a state of uniformity in the world, it works as the link that is necessary for us to
make predictions about the future based solely upon what happen in the past. For example, if all
observed emeralds are green, according to PUN, I can say that all unobserved emeralds will be green
also. Although this may possibly be true, according to Goodman, it simply is not enough to solve the
problem as there is a New Riddle of Induction. Moreover, Goodman s main concern with PUN is that
it is vacuously true, which essentially means that it is true no matter how the world is. Nevertheless, in
order for Goodman to refute PUN, he focuses on a thought experiment that puts green up against a
new predicate known as grue. Now one must think as grue as a combination between green and blue,
but basically an object is grue if it is first observed before the year 2050, and green, or if it is not
observed before 2050, and blue.

Animal Testing Arguments
Animal testing has been a major issue ever since it began. Many people over time began to realize that
it is immoral and that animals deserve rights just as much as humans do. Although many people have
realized that animal testing is wrong, there is still an abundance of others who believe that there is
nothing wrong with animal testing. Imagine if someone had a pet that they love and someone
performed harmful, painful, and fear inducing experiments on them, would the owner think it is okay?
No. Then why do people think it is okay to conduct tests on other animals that will feel all the same
emotions as someone s beloved pet? Animal testing is wrong and more efforts need to be put into
place to stop this cruel act because it is not always accurate, there are alternatives to the practice, and
it is not ethical.
The first reason as to why animal testing needs to be banned is that it does not always produce
accurate results. Animal and human bodies are not exactly the same, so these tests will not accurately
predict how harmful products will be to humans. Every time you reach for an eyedrop [eye drop] or
reapply [re apply] a lip salve, you do so confident that the chemicals they contain are safe to use. But
the toxicology tests on which regulators rely to gather this information are stuck in a time warp, and
are largely based on wasteful and often poorly predictive animal experiments (Abbott). Mistakes
really cannot be made when testing whether chemical products are hazardous

The Importance Of Too Cool For Kids In High School
Too Cool for School! Does Facebook Belong in the Classroom? I believe that kids in high school or
middle school can benefit from using social media. Kids in high school should definitely be able to
access social media and will benefit from it because it can help them fit in. If all the kids in the school
are active on social media, they support each other in friendship. It lets every kid be a part of things.
Social media can be a great way to connect with others, friends old and new. Kids can even ask
teachers questions. Another reason why social media is good for kids is that it keeps them up to date
on the news. Every time I go on Facebook, I see news events from around the world. I also hear about
things happening in my community. For example,

Good vs. Evil in Wuthering Heights
Many authors use the setting of a novel to illuminate certain values and principles in their writing. In
Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte utilizes this technique to enhance the theme of the work. The novel
is set in a harsh environment in Northern England, highlighting two specific estates, Wuthering
Heights and Thrushcross Grange, as the main places of action. The dreary landscape and houses not
only serve as the primary setting, but also as major symbols that aide in establishing the tone and
enhancing the novel s theme of good versus evil. The novel is set in Yorkshire, a barren landscape in
an isolated region of Northern England. The detailed descriptions of the environment allow the mood
and tone of the novel to be revealed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wuthering Heights is depicted as a cold, threatening, and dark manor, situated on a bleak hilltop. In
the novel, wuthering is the local adjective to describe the atmospheric tumult present in the region.
The rugged manor, Wuthering Heights, represents a storm , characterized by the wild emotions and
harsh behaviors of the inhabitants. The depressing atmosphere causes people to shiver through every
limb at the sorrowful sight of the Heights. In deep contrast, Thrushcross Grange is described as a
splendid place of elegance and comfort. The peaceful dwelling of the Grange represents higher values
and morals, and is considered the calm residence of the novel. The author creatively reveals the theme
of good versus evil, or the calm versus the storm, through the pronounced symbolic differences in the
houses. In addition, the houses hold distinct personality traits that closely relate to the characters who
reside in each. The vivid descriptions of the houses link to certain characters, allowing the reader to
gain insight into the character s personalities, thus enhancing the theme. The residents of Wuthering
Heights consist of the common, working class people of society. The gloomy characteristics of
Wuthering Heights are embodied in the characters who occupy the manor. Wuthering Heights parallels
the major character, Healthcliff. He is a man of strong emotions, much

What Is Porter s Five Forces Of Intel
Porter s Five Forces Analysis Using Five Forces analysis brings the purpose to analyze the industry in
order to determine the level of intensity regarding the competition and attractiveness of the industry
(Porter, 1979). The attractiveness of an industry is measured in terms of profit; more profitability
means a more attractive industry and otherwise. According to Porter (1979), the nature of
competitiveness in a given industry can be figured as a composite of the following five forces: rivalry
among competitive firms, potential entry of new competitors, threats of substitute products, bargaining
power of suppliers, and bargaining power of consumers. Intel s porter five forces analysis conducted

Consumers had no bargaining power in the past when Intel was the only producer of microprocessors

How Does The Bible Create A Theology Of Waiting
The Bible should undergird every aspect of Christian life. The Bible is where God has chosen to
reveal his character, express his desires and to unveil his plan of redemption for humanity. The Bible
holds the information that aids to solidify the believer s faith, relays history, offers wisdom, comforts
the hurting and communicates the foundational instructions for living a transformed Christ like life.
Therefore, this thesis will begin its research from a Biblical perspective, to establish a biblically
grounded framework to aid in the development of a theology of waiting.
Humanity s experience with waiting is interwoven throughout the whole of Scripture, beginning with
Adam and Eve s expulsion from the Garden. The act of waiting is a part of the humanity s
metanarrative, culminating with the return of Christ. However, God s love for his creation leads him to
implement a plan of redemption that will repair the fractured relationship between himself and
humanity. Conversely, the Bible only reveals a redacted version of God s plan, leaving humanity with
partial information about the future, which compels us to wait on further instructions directly from
Him. The Bible does provide a complete schematic of the redemptive plan, however, the theme that is
consistent throughout the plan is that humanity is called to wait on and trust in God to faithfully work
out the minute details of his plan.

The Fall Of The Handmaids Tale
1. In the beginning of The Handmaids Tale, there are 3 quotations that form the front piece of the book

Jacob no children... This quotation resembles how important it was to give children. That if Rachel

for infertility. Rachel allows Jacob to get the maid pregnant because she wants to claim the children as

the roles of handmaids, wives, commanders, etc. Handmaids are forced to wear red dresses that cover
all aspects of their body. The color red symbolizes fertility, which is very important for handmaids to
have. It also represents the blood of the menstrual cycle and childbirth, everything except the wings
around my face is red: The colour of blood which defines us. Therefore, red identifies the role of a
handmaid as a child bearer for the wives. Wives can be identified by their clothes and where they sit in
meetings .The costumes the wives wear are usually more flattering and more fitted and always blue.
Blue is a royal color which can represent that the wives have a high status which is why their clothes
are blue and more regal. Blue is also seen as a frigid color and that can represent the actions of the
wives to the handmaids. The roles of the wives are to help the handmaids get pregnant but they

The term mise en scene is used to signify the director s control over what appears in the film frame (1)
and covers such elements as setting, lighting, costume and the movement and actions of figures
appearing within the film.
The iconic Citizen Kane (Welles, 1941), a biopic that traces the life of fictional newspaper magnate
Charles Kane, uses the elements of mise en scene to reinforce loss as a recurring theme throughout the
film. As a faceless reporter goes about collecting personal recounts of Kane, the stories told suggest
that throughout the majority of his life, Kane was moving inevitably toward [an inner state of]
bitterness, disappointment and loss (2).

After watching it, and knowing more about true appreciation of film I get it, so to speak.
Watching a film takes so much more than just escaping from your own life for a few hours. Being able
to turn your brain off and say, Ok. I get to live in this other world for the day. This is my life for a day.
Film is only about escaping in the sense that a message must escape from the scenes, and the story as a
whole. It may never cross the lips of any of the characters, or be written in white on a black screen (as
in black and whites), and it won t be mystically entered into your computerized mind, or sent as a
message to your iPhone. No...to get the message of the film you have to watch and know what to look
for the subtle nuances and the mise en scene, everything that is in a particular frame, because those are
the clues and you are the detective. You must find universal truth and your own personal growth from
what you take from the movie. Some movies do a poor job of sending a message and those are the
movies that people watch and forget to learn from them. Other are too complex. Citizen Kane is
perfect because you can learn everything you ever needed to know about how to analyze a film from
it, and it is such a beautifully simple story, with complex characters, making the everyday important,
just as it should be in our own lives.

Robert Schumann Essay
Robert Alexander Schumann was born in the small riverside town of
Zwickau, Saxony, in 1810.The youngest of five children, Robert Schumann was brought up in
comfortable, middle class respectability. As a child, he apparently exhibited no remarkable abilities.
At the age of six, Robert was sent to the local preparatory school, run by Archdeacon Dohner. He had
in fact already begun his education, with the young tutor who gave lessons in exchange for board and
lodging at the
Schumann home.
At the age of seven Robert received his first piano lessons, from
Johann Gottfried Kuntzsch, organist at St. Mary s Church, and schoolmaster at the Zwickau Lyceum.

After secret discussions, the engagement was broken off by mutual agreement. Possibly
Robert had been kept in the dark about Ernestine s origins.
In any event, the affair had a catalytic effect on Robert s music. He had the idea of writing a series of
piano pieces based on the letters ASCH; these he later turned into Carnival. He also composed some
piano variations on a theme provided by Baron von Fricken.
But Robert s friend Schunke had fallen seriously ill. Unable to bear the sight, Robert went back to
Zwickau again, only returning to Leipzig in
December to negotiate a change of publisher for the Zeitschrift. From the beginning of 1835 the
journal was published by the Leipzig firm of JA Barth.
Late in 1835 Mendelsson arrived in Leipzig to take over as music director of the Gewandhaus. Still
only twenty six, Mendelsson was the director of the age, and Schumann felt an immediate attraction
when they met at Wieck s house. Following the newcomer s debut in Leipzig, Schumann wrote
praising him in the quot;Letters of an Enthusiast quot; column of his Zeitzcrift.
Schumann did however venture to criticise Mendelssohn s use of the baton; he believed that an
orchestra should function as a quot;republic quot; and that ridgity should be avoided. At about this

Woolf On Lies
The struggle that women had to endure through the centuries has been rooted deeply to the idea that
women are inferior to men. Men, as the stronger sex, were thought to be intelligent, courageous, and
determined. Women, on the other hand, were more governed by their emotions, and their virtues were
expected to be chastity, modesty, compassion, and piety. Men were thought to be more aggressive;
women more passive. Women education was primarily at home by mothers or fathers. The education
comprised of the arts of sewing, water color, and polite conversation for the upper class and domestic
work for lower classes. Those who did attempt to educate themselves in the male subjects of Greek
and Latin were measured by male standards of scholarship when they attempted to express themselves
in print. While this might not be the current situation for women in society women had to fight to get
where they are right now. In this paper, I will to be discussing two visionary women who saw that

Indian India s Indian National Congress
Colonial History of India
Some factors that lead India to independence from England was World War II, protests, and changes in
government including the Indian National Congress. During World War II, when the Indian natives
fought alongside the colonists against the imperial forces of Hitler, they came to the realization that
they wanted independence after they finished fighting in the war . In August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi
and other Quit India activists protested for independence which was the first step to independence
after World War II. The Indian National Congress was considerably the largest and most prominent
Indian public organization, and central and defining influence of the Indian Independence Movement .
This allowed some sort of government representation of the people with the goal of ending the East
India Company s rule as a purpose.
Indian colonization began when traders were looking for a path via the oceans to trade with India
because the land route through the Middle East was cut off by the Ottoman Empire. Vasco da Gama
circumnavigated Africa and found the route to India which allowed other sailors and merchants to
come to India as well. Nations began erecting settlements near and on the Indian coastline for a safe
port for merchant ships to load, unload, and conduct business. Some of these settlements began to
evolve into colonies. By mid 19th century, England had control, either directly or indirectly, of almost
all of India. India was the hub of English

Narrative Essay On The Big Dipper
The Big Dipper!!!
By Raagni
I was sooooooooooo excited. I got down from my silver Subaru with my grey jacket lagging in my
hand. I called over to my mom ,who was packing our bags for the day in the back of our car,
Do I need to get something?!
She replied with a nod since we could barely hear ourselves over all the noise from the car engines
parking. I walked over to her and looked at a jumble of things. Our cooler with food on one side and
our jackets, gloves and hats one side.
I asked my mom What should I do?
She told me to get my jacket and two water bottles from the side of my door.
Once we finally packed our bags,we walked over to Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
Whoa! I thought in my head. There were so many rides! Like the Typhoon when people got flipped
upside down! I was staring at that ride with my jaw dropping until my dad got our blue wrist bands.
The ride looked like shark tails. Then there was another ride called Double Shot that took your slowly
125 feet above ground then......DROPPED YOU IN A FRACTION OF SECONDS!!!
There was a big red ride that stood out to me. There was a sign on it with fancy letters The Dipper! I
stared walking to it like I was in some kind of trance when my dad grabbed my shoulder so gently
making me feel like I was an iceberg that would crack if it was touched. We spent about 2 hours at
other rides until I pleaded my dad for about 10 minutes.
PLEASE!?!?!?!?

1.1.2 Causes of obesity
Some companies and institutions, have hold Individuals as targets, and claim that everyone
specifically accountable for their own weight. However the blame for obesity is misplaced.
Much obesity is the result of genetics and the environment. Yet individuals are blamed when the food
environment is the problem. Different than twenty years ago, today food outlets are everywhere, and
the most readily available and most heavily promoted food is the least nutritious. Eating is an
automatic response to cues from this kind of environment. The brain is wired to respond to cues, and
those in the food industry have become exceptionally good at triggering those cues.[5]
Fast food and obesity has been a major link that makes the American dining experience and
unfortunately American Health most noteworthy to world specialists. About 60M of the American
population is considered obese. Most significantly is that the impending danger of obesity concern has
become a world phenomenon. The problem of obesity has crept quickly as fast as the spurt of fast
foods all throughout the world. Though, people could not blame McDonaldization and Globalization.

In such cases, one party s breaking and entering into the other party s living space at night with the

Many jurisdictions have also eliminated the element of dwelling from the burglary definition and
consider burglary the entering onto any premises with the intent to commit a felony therein.
As we have said, the breaking and entering must be done at night in order to qualify as burglary.
However, the breaking and entering do not have to be done on the same night. That is to say, the
defendant can create the opening in the dwelling on one night and then use that opening to gain entry
on another night. Please remember, however, that, as we said before, there must be a causal
relationship between the breaking and entering so that, even though the breaking and entering can
occur on different nights, the breaking must be the means that the defendant uses to gain access to the
dwelling.
Many jurisdictions have also eliminated the element of night from the burglary definition and consider
burglary the entering onto any premises at any time with the intent to commit a felony

Fine Art And Commercial Art
Fine Art and Commercial Art With rapid economic growth and improving technologies, many artists
are increasingly become interested in commercial art. This trend is mainly influence by the fact that
the financial gains in commercial art are much greater than in fine art. Since the designers are
instructed on what to do by their clients, their level of creativity and ingenuity is minimized. This is
partially attributed to the fact that many people have misunderstood the true meaning of fine art.

In this case, the artist is hired and is subjected to the employers preferences and constraints. In most
cases, the artists are not credited for the work. The main purpose of commercial art is communication.
A commercial artist organizes information in an effective visual presentation to portray the virtues of a
particular service or product. In most cases the employers hire commercial artists to create
advertisements, animations and illustrations, which conveys a message intended for consumers.
Communication is therefore decisively important in this field. Conversely, the definition of fine art has
been generally misunderstood to mean artistic works that are of high quality. However, an important
aspect that should be included in the definition of fine art is that the artists adhere to the purity of their
style or discipline. This implies that fine art should be judged based on its aesthetic value,
meaningfulness and beauty. Notably, unlike commercial artists, fine artists are self motivated and
decide on what they want the artwork to look like. Furthermore, they are motivated by the desire to
express their ideologies rather that communication. Due to the lucrative nature of art
commercialization, many fine artists prefer to practice both disciplines. Artists, such as Bob Gill, Ben

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Adolescents
The Impact of Violent Video Games on Adolescents
Jessica Fentress
University of the Cumberlands Abstract
Violence in association with video games has been a debate that has been circulating for some time
now. In light of the onslaught of recent public shootings, most shooters being adolescent males,
research is resurfacing once again posing the question, Do violent video games influence or cause
extreme aggressive behavior and cognition? The research suggests that while violent video games may
stimulate internal arousal, there is no evidence to support the theory that violent video games actually
cause or provoke adolescents to commit violent crimes. Around 90% of children in the United States
play video games. 80 % of video game sales are violent games. Juvenile crime and arrest rates have
declined 48% since 1996 indicating that violent video games do not prompt adolescents to commit
violent crimes.
Video games are considered among the top forms of entertainment for youth in America. An estimated
90% of adolescents play video games, spending approximately 2 hours per day, sometimes more
digitally interacting with the world around them (Prot, McDonald, Anderson, Gentile, 2012). The top
selling video game titles are ones with concentrated violence and many times first person shooters
such as the Call of Duty series. Because of their growing popularity, and the violent crimes that have

Training In Arthurian Literature Essay
Arthurian authors do not often address training in Arthurian Literature. This may be to keep some
sense of mystery or even because it does not make for a very interesting story. However, this was a
very important part of the lives of nobles in the middle ages. Children would often leave home as early
as age seven to train in the ways of warfare and chivalry. This shows that training was very important
in shaping the young men who would someday become honorable knights. Though nobility and
knighthood are widely seen as a matter of nature, this training shows that there is a great deal of
nurture necessary to create the best knights possible. In medieval times, warfare was not merely an
occupation or duty; it was a way of life. Men drew their personal worth and civil ... Show more

The nobility often employed training in the form of tournaments in times of peace to ensure that
knights were ready for battle. In many Arthurian texts, we see tournaments as a way to get recognition
and show off one s prowess in combat. Yvain even lost his love and mind because of his love for
tournaments and need for recognition. This exemplifies pride as negative in Arthurian literature but we
see that pride is central to the life of knights throughout the middle ages. Without pride, a knight might
not do all that he could to develop his skill in combat and work to keep his talents sharp. This paper
will examine the importance of training not only in childhood but also throughout the life of a
medieval knight to ensure his survival in battle, his livelihood, and his honor. It will also compare and
contrast this with some elements in Arthurian Literature regarding tournaments and chivalric code.
Though young nobles left home to train at a young age, their training never ceased even after they

The Role Of Class In The Gilded Age And Progressive Era
Class
To begin, class influenced the Gilded Age and Progressive Era in the changing working conditions as
a response to industrialization. Class was also apparent in Gilded Age politics and in the changing
political culture that foreshadowed the bureaucratic government of the Progressives. Middle Class
Progressives played a vital role in America by seeking reform and influence among the upper and
working class. Thus, class assumed a prominent role in influencing the Gilded Age and Progressive
Era. Changing Working Conditions
In the 19th century, there were several structural changes in the nature of work. These changes
included deskilling of jobs, which led to the decline of the heroic artisan and economic depressions.
All these factors contributed to tense strikes between workers and employers. During the Antebellum
period, most white American workers were self reliant, but the nature of work and production began to
shift after the Civil War, as the industrial workplace increased in size, immigration swelled, and the
number of wage workers surpassed that of self employed men. Thus, heroic artisans experienced
threats with the emergence of a class of permanent wage workers, which killed their republic dreams
for American economic self sufficiency, property ownership, and self employment. Nevertheless, the
real challenge for white wage Americans began in the 1870s and 1880s, as xenophobic anxieties of
Chinese workers emerged. [1]

Comparing Robinson And Paul Simon s Richard Cory
Richard Cory, the name used for the title of two thought provoking works, was a man whose luxurious
persona led the world from feelings of admiration to wide ranging envy. In both poems by Edwin
Arlington Robinson and Paul Simon, similar tones established esteem and praise towards their subject.
However, throughout these verses, both speakers also appeared to shift their acknowledgments into a
place of spite and jealously. As the reader began to unfold the nature of the literary works, tones from
worship, hardship, and bitterness are all keenly painted throughout the speakers use of contrast,
repetition, and negativity by the name Richard Cory .
Tone, or the attitude of the writer towards a subject, is depicted equally and similarly in both poems.

of both speakers can be made. Both Robinson and Simon open by boasting Richard Cory and finalize

A group of gowąąs then combine to form a gotąą, which is described by Basso as spatially localized
clusters. In the Cibecue community, rituals and traditions still carry great importance and play a
significant role in communication, despite intervention from Anglo missionaries to modernize the
community. A major part of Basso s interests in the Cibecue community is to study the role of silence
in a community where focused gatherings are a common mode of public communication. He looks to
examine situations where silence becomes the appropriate communicative process and the reasons
why it is considered so. Moreover, these situations of silence only occur during a certain period or
circumstance that is defined by tradition as well as experience. Another factor in Basso s interest is to
define what human emotion determines the decision to remain silent in a particular situation. A
discussion of Basso s definition of the term situation will be provided in the next section.
Contextual Concepts In order to completely understand the arguments put forth by Basso in his
research, it is vital to understand the concept that communication occurs with or without the usage of
speech, and in this case through silence. Although the people engaged in this silence are not
communicating directly per se, the silence is an acknowledgement of their presence. Interpersonal
communication, which occurs face to face, employs three main technical components: a code (an

Ohio Government Benefits
Ohio has so much potential. Property is cheap, taxes are cheap, the colleges are cheaper than most, but
people are fleeing the state at alarming rates. There is only one reason that comes to mind for this. The
state government. It sounds narrow, I know, but everything the state government does, affects this
state, and our lives drastically. An example of this would be College Credit Plus, which is helping
students tremendously, or the Commercial Activity Tax, or CAT, which is driving small businesses out

The funding for public education is based on the grounds of property tax. Which, again, is incredibly
stupid because Ohio s property taxes are so low. A better way to fund public education would be to

profitable if it was legal for recreational use also. Not to mention, the people who do marijuana would
stop being thrown in jail. Which is my main beef with it. The federal government paints marijuana as
this terrible drug, Compared to those who don t use marijuana, those who frequently use large
amounts report the following: lower life satisfaction, poorer mental health, poorer physical health,
more relationship problems. People also report less academic and career success. For example,
marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school. It s also linked to more job
absences, accidents, and injuries (National Institute of Drug Abuse). Look, I really don t care how
high people get off of marijuana, they can smoke until they don t know their own name. It makes me
mad that people are getting thrown in jail over simply having marijuana on them, while people die of

Negative Effects Of Rejection
INTRODUCTION: According to Downey and Feldman (1996), the basic need to belong, the desire to
achieve acceptance and to avoid rejection is widely acknowledged to be a powerful motivational
drive. Social rejection occurs when an individual is deliberately excluded from a social relationship or
social interaction for social rather than practical reasons. A person can be rejected on an individual
basis or by an entire group of people. For example it can be missing an invitation to a friend s party, a
refusal of a job opportunity, the end of a romantic relationship, or the reluctance of a stranger to talk to

be perceived when it is not actually present. However, one s perspective on experiencing rejection and
the interpretation of the experience rejection vary to a great degree. Since humans are social beings,

When environmental or interpersonal cues are interpreted as rejection, the high rejection sensitivity
individual actually experiences feelings of rejection, which are likely to provoke an affective or
behavioural overreaction such as aggressive behaviour, depression, or socially inappropriate efforts to
prevent, or in some way obviate the rejection (Ayduk Mendoza Denton, 2000). These efforts, in turn,
often provoke rejection from the target of the behaviour, and so, the anxiety becomes a reality for the
rejection sensitive person. Additional experiences of rejection serve to prolong the expectations of
rejection, thus maintaining the rejection sensitive dynamic (Mitchell, Downey, Peake, Rodriguez,

Mental Health Issues In Social Media
2.2 The situation now Looking back at how the stigma surrounding mental illness impact on people in
results of media portrayal, there is an urgent need in reducing stigma and raising awareness in order to
prevent social discrimination of people with mental illness and to encourage those with mental illness
to speak up what they are going through. Patrick Corrigan Illinois Institute of Technology
psychologist stated that it was as bad as it is 20 years ago (Yuhas, 2014). Benefiting the convenience
of social media in our today s world, Betton, Borschmann, Docherty, Coleman, Brown and Henderson

Nevertheless, instead of focusing on being aware of mental illness, they are terrified of it. Repeated
use of negative and inaccurate images of mentally ill individuals, mental health professionals and also
psychotherapy leads the society to discriminate these group of people. This problem is getting worst
from time to time and it needs to be reduce. The incorporation of campaign in social media as a
medium to raise awareness regarding this matter I seen as a promising avenue in stigma reduction as it
improves the condition, hence breaking down the stereotypes (Research and Development
Cooperation, 2012). One of the latest campaigns done by The National Alliance on Mental Illness of
New York City which is #IWILLLISTEN, has a positive feedback. If more people join in raising
consciousness about this matter, there will be an opportunity for the everyone to change public
attitudes towards mental health through social media

Pros And Cons Of Gophers
7 Tips for a Gopher Free Backyard Have gophers dedicated your backyard their neighborhood
playground? Do you need to know how to get rid of gophers without harming them? #1 Gophers are
sound sensitive. Aggravate the little dickens by installing gopher chaser windmills. Continuous
vibrations emitted by windmill blades travel underground via the hollow support rod. Add pops of
color to your backyard with several windmills. This is an eco friendly way to color gophers gone! #2
Due to their heightened sense of smell try introducing scents gophers don t like. Stinky fish scraps or
castor oil will incite gophers to skedaddle. Pack their escape holes with fish scraps. Or, Scatter castor
oil granules in your backyard. #3 Getting rid of gophers may also be accomplished with road flares.

Comparison Of The Chrysler Building And The Seagram Building
When thinking of buildings that were ahead of their time two come to mind the Chrysler Building and
the Seagram Building. Both of these structures were built to withstand the elements of time and are
still beautiful to this day. These buildings have been featured on the cover of magazines, tv shows and
are modern marvels in today s society. Between the two buildings, one can not help but look at the
similarities as well as the differences between the two. Today I want to discuss these differences as
well as the similarities and go into greater detail on why these buildings are significant. The Chrysler
Building is an Art Deco style skyscraper that was built during one of the most severe economic
downturns in this country s history. The building was finished in the year 1930 and is located in New
York City. The Chrysler Building was constructed using stainless steel over an exposed building
surface which was a first for its time (History of Walter P. Chrysler and the Chrysler Building, n.d.).
The next important thing to think about when understanding the Chrysler Building is to figure out
what it was designed for. Although the building was not owned by Chrysler it was used for the
corporation s offices which used the building until the mid 1950 s (Chrysler Building, n.d). Next,
when one looks at the Chrysler Building they can tell it represents an Art Deco style by its many
unique features. The Chrysler Building represents the Art Deco style because of its monuments,

ABSTRACT
The focus of this study was to examine activity based costing from the perspective of competitive
advantage. ABC can support the strategic management process and provide significant benefit to
organizations. This examination utilized the contingency theory as a theoretical basis for the study.
Descriptive survey design was adopted. The data gathering instrument employed for this study is a
structured questionnaire. Data are analyzed through SPSS version 16. Reliability analysis using
Cronbach s alpha value was applied on data collected. Factor analysis was employed using principal
component method followed by Varimax with Kaiser Normalization, to find the factors or dimensions
that explain variances by the data set. The factor analysis is based on four dimensions, namely, overall
performance, strategic cost allocation method, increased efficiency and increased effectiveness having
the factor loadings of over ±0.3. The regression results are positive and significant at the 5% level.
Findings reveal that there is no statistically significant difference in cost reduction attained by ABC
over Traditional costing, though ABC tended to have higher effect.

Jazz Music Research Paper
Of all the arts that took place in the United States, Jazz is well thought out as America s first original
art form. Since its beginning in the 20th century, Jazz music is defined by chronicle changes. Almost
every decade a new essence enhanced the movement, and by the 1940 s jazz had developed into a
mature, complex form of music, with many nuances and avenues for unceasing changes.
Jazz appeared in New Orleans in the early twentieth century. It is the product of miscegenation
between the culture of American black people from slavery, and European culture imported by the
colonists. In the early 1910s, New Orleans Jazz began combining ragtime and blues with
improvisation. In 1930, the swing era emerged followed by Bebop in 1940 where jazz shifted ... Show

First, the traditional artist performs jazz based on bebop, swing, blues and hard bop. They dismiss free
jazz and fusion. These artists consider that they play real jazz, not the diverse hybrids and adds on that
aroused since 1960. One of the most important artists of this movement is the trumpeter Wynton
Marsalis, who played a major role in the reappearance of jazz.
Second, the contemporary mainstream artists are mainly influenced by hard bop. Although they use
Hard Bop instrumentation and musical forms, contemporary mainstream artists try to push the music
further. They increase technical proficiency on their instruments, they expand musical harmonies
using more difficult chords and complex chords progression and they express deeper and varied
emotions. The trumpeter Terence Blanchard is today s most important contemporary mainstream jazz
artist.
Third, as their name indicates, anything goes jazz artists mix up all kind of music. Their music can
include all styles of jazz, blues, rock, Latin, classical, popular, hip hop... The saxophonist Dave
Liebman and the trumpeter Dave Douglas are two important anything goes artists.
Another thing that is specific to today s jazz is the variation in the

Oedipus The King Pride Essay
Man s Greatest Enemies Although Oedipus is an ideal leader who once saved the city of Thebes from
the monstrous Sphinx, his fatal flaws of anger and pride ultimately lead to his tragic downfall.
Oedipus s harsh temper leads him to make rash decisions and often causes him to show disrespect to
people. For example, Oedipus displays his quick temper when the blind prophet, Tiresias, accuses him
of murdering Laius, the former king of Thebes. Although Tiresias is physically blind, he sees the truth,
while Oedipus sees but is blind to the truth. Oedipus becomes furious with the old man and begins to
yell at him for this ghastly accusation. You miserable old man! You d drive a stone to fury, Oedipus
screams violently. He even goes as far as to describe Tiresias as a night hatched thing. Oedipus truly is
an ideal leader; however, this flaw aids in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His more significant flaw, his pride, fuels his quick temper which leads to a greater dilemma for the
king. For instance, in the fourth episode as the shepherd from Corinth arrives, Oedipus shows his pride
when he takes advantage of the old man. Look, Elders, if I may play the prophet too, I d say although I
ve never met the man there s the herdsmen we ve been searching for, Oedipus declares pompously.
Seconds before the shepherd enters, Oedipus compares himself to a prophet when he tells the elders
his opinions about the man approaching. When the old man refuses to tell Oedipus the truth, Oedipus
threatens to hurt and even to kill the poor man, demonstrating Oedipus s hubris fueling his temper.
Perhaps the most significant example of his vanity occurs when the messenger from Corinth delivers
the news to Jocasta and Oedipus revealing the death of Oedipus s father. Instead of mourning his
father s death, Oedipus celebrates thinking that he broke the curse and outwitted the gods since his

Restrictions should be made against junk food in school to prevent children s emotions and
accomplishment correlated with food. Using food as a reward or a treat, could be unintentionally
teaching their children to rely on food to deal with their emotions (rewarding kids). Children are being
taught to rely on food for a confort and a emotional cope mecanism. After a hard day of work, many
adults run to food to deal with stress, reliving their childhood experience with food and comfort. The
more parents use food as a reward for their children, the more likely the child will grow into an adult
who eats for comfort (rewarding kids). Kids being emotionaly attached to food may affect them when
they get older and eventually into thier adult life. The child learns to comfort themselves with that
food. This leads to an unhealthy emotional connection between eating certain foods and feeling good
(rewarding kids). Children eating thier favorite foods make them feel happy so when they are upset

The novel, Pride and Prejudice revolves around a mother of five daughters, Mrs. Bennet, whose sole

Mrs. Bennet is assured that Jane s beauty and meticulous manners will win her a prized husband. In

Finally Mr. Wickham decides to run away with Lydia, which eventually turns out to be a good thing
for Mr. Wickham. The Bennett s thought that they would get bad name now and that they would never
get Janeor any of their daughters for that matter, to marry a man of great fortune. No man would want
to marry a woman who has a family with a bad reputation.
This is when Darcy comes in and helps out by finding both Lydia and Mr. Wickham. He pays Mr.
Wickham ten thousand pounds to marry Lydia. But Mr. Bennet thinks Mr. Wickham is a fool to take
Lydia with a farthing less than ten thousand pounds . In the end this saves the Bennet family from a
bad reputation and shame. Mr. Wickham ends up marrying Lydia.
So all in all it seems that Mr. Wickham was generally looking for a woman with money enough to live
with and have an ordinary life with the exception that he had taken a liking to Elizabeth when he
arrived in to Meryton.
Elizabeth a woman looking for romance and love takes a liking towards Mr. Wickham when she meets
him at his arrival to Meryton, but she knows that they can not be together for it would be a hard life
with Mr. Wickham as an officer in the regiments .
Then Elizabeth is cautioned by Charlotte to

The Biosocial Explanation Of Gender Development
The biosocial explanation of gender assumes that gender development focuses on the interaction
between biological and social factors. The approach emphasises that both factors are equally important
in determining gender. How we react to babies tend to be based on the child s sex identity. Often our
sexual stereotypes do influence how we respond and expect behaviour to occur.
Money and Ehrhardt (1972) believed that how an individual is sexually labelled determines how they
are raised up, which goes to determine the child s gender identity, gender role identity etc. For
example, if a boy was given a female toy, he would automatically go a Here they theorised in a book
which said that social labelling and differential treatment pf boys and girls interact with biological
factors to influence development. M E predicted that if a genetic male is labelled as a girl and treated
as a girl before the age of three, he would acquire the gender identity of a girl.
They said that psychologically, sexuality is undifferentiated at birth but becomes differentiated as
masculine or feminine in the course of various experiences growing up.
Condry and Condry (1976) conducted an experiment which done in a lab setting. It consisted of 200+
adults (male and female). They were shown a video of a baby. With one group the baby is introduce to

  • 2. Examples Of Blockbuster Theory 3 There are some routes and paths that must not be taken. There are some armies and troops that must not be assaulted. Although some of the routes and paths may looks advantageous to us, it should not be taken lightly. This is because there might be some ambushes that cannot be found or detected easily. If the decision is not made cautiously, troubles or loss may be incurred instead of gaining the desired advantages. In other words, do not judge a book by its cover. Besides that, something that seems like a benefit may be also a trap set by the enemy or competitor. If someone walks into the trap looking for benefit, then his or her benefit could be taken away instead. This theory was applied by Blockbuster, which was once a very popular video rental company. The Chief Executive Officer of Blockbuster, Jim Keyes, was interested in enhancing their retail business by purchasing Circuit City, an electronic retailer company (Eaton, 2008). Therefore, he made an offer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If everything works out perfectly, it would be nice to see the product of the combination of Blockbuster and Circuit City. However, in reality, things just would not work that way, especially in this modern era where everything in the market changes rapidly, and nobody can predict what is going to happen next. Even in this situation, Blockbuster still did a good job by analysing the market carefully and making their decision wisely. At the time when the offer is announced to the public, many opinions from analysts flooded in, with majority agreeing that the offer is bad (Jacobs and Paul, 2008). They are lucky enough to found the problems before it is too late. Although Keyes had a wonderful envision of the future of the affiliation, he decided to give up on the offer and take the safe route in order to prevent their company from falling into a black ... • 3. Frederic Bastiat Essay Frederic Bastiat (1801 1850) was a French classical economist, statesman, and author. He did most of his writing during the years before and after the Revolution of February 1848. This was the period when France was rapidly turning to complete socialism. As a Deputy to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Bastiat was studying and explaining each socialist fallacy as it appeared. And he explained how socialism must inevitably degenerate into communism. But most of his countrymen chose to ignore his logic. The fight against socialism drained Bastiat s already fading energy, and by 1850 a mere six years alter his first published article and only two since his election to the National Assembly he was on his deathbed. But far from being a flash in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many philosophers have made important contributions to the discourse on liberty, Bastiat among them. But Bastiat s greatest contribution is that he took the discourse out of the ivory tower and made ideas on liberty so clear that even the unlettered can understand them. Like others, Bastiat recognized the greatest single threat to liberty is government. Law, according to Bastiat, is the collective organization of the individual right to lawful defense (pg. 2). Bastiat starts off saying that the basic gifts man has from God, it exists only to do what individuals have a right to do: protect their persons, their liberties and their properties. Bastiat gave the same rationale for government as did our Founders, saying, Life, liberty and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it is the fact that life, liberty and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place. No finer statements of natural or God given rights have been made than those found in our Declaration of Independence and The Law. The law was created to ensure that individuals in society were allowed to use these gifts. Justice is achieved only when injustice is absent (pg. 12).When the law is used for more than these three goals, the law becomes an instrument of injustice. Similar to the use of the law is abused by the greed and false philanthropy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Medecins Frontieres Everyone deserves medical help whether they live in an emerging nation or in the heart of New York City. This is what Bernard Kouchner thought when he created Medecins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders. Medecins Sans Frontieres goes to third world countries and helps deliver free medical aid to those in need. The amount of helpless people in third world countries shows that without the aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres citizens would be without the medical assistance that they deserve. The acts of Medecins Sans Frontieres results in the better being of others. This is demonstrated through their tireless efforts, resulting in less people at risk. This is well presented, as evident in the events of March 1999. The expulsion of ethnic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this is not the most efficient method for examining illness this method delivers more data and doing so helps any Medecins Sans Frontieres team determine what is and isn t working with their treatments. This same approach was used for the mental health services department since March of 1998 in Bosnia. Group interventions were prefered because of the secondary benefits of sharing and mutual support. MEdecins Sans Frontiers found that communities were generally supportive of each other. (Jong). While nearly 300 miles apart the same data was collected from differing victims. This proves how the organization improves the world through research and development by showing how this organization collects and quality control checks data using a less progressive method as to ensure more active and dependable data. This method of testing multiple times is used everywhere but in a more advanced way with Medecins Sans Frontieres. As shown when a Medecins Sans Frontieres team stationed in Bosnia discovered that victims are more likely to talk in a group than alone. This same finding was also evident, found around the same time in Kosovo. (Located by Serbia) The Medecins Sans Frontieres teams professed this information and as a result a counselling element was added to all mobile clinics throughout Medecins Sans ... • 5. Byzantine Empire Strengths The definition of Byzantine is of, relating to, or characteristic of the ancient city of Byzantium . (cite def.) The Byzantine Empire was an Empire located in Constantinople, Rome. This Empire had a heavy influence on politics, economics and religious issues. The Byzantine Empire had many strengths and weaknesses. Some strengths were political, military and economic strengths. The strengths benefited the empire in many ways. One way the Byzantine Empire was benefited by their strengths was by the ability to survive. The weaknesses were the conflict that devastated the empire such as the iconoclastic controversy. The iconoclastic controversy pulled the Byzantine Empire apart and created a rebellion. Another weakness was the dependency the Byzantines had on their allies this caused the collapse of the Byzantine Empire. This essay will consist of Political strength, military strength, economic strength, the religious importance to the Byzantine people, how icons were introduced, start of the controversy, during the controversy, after the controversy and the collapse of the Byzantine Empire. Big mac: Inside the Mac Donald s empire is a documentary that was made on the 25th July 2007, it tells us the history of Mac Donald s (the people who began it, how much their products costed, the variety of products they had on the menu at that time) and how the empire of Mac Donald s grew to become the Mac Donald s that is known today. It also shows us the 21st century owners of Mac Donalds, how many Mac Donald s are around the world (the host goes to some of these Mac Donald s and interview their managers and the managers show us how Mac Donald s operates every day, how their products are made, how they treat their cutomers and employees). The reason why I m saying they are entrepreneurs is because entrepreneurs they saw an opportunity in the market and they grabbed that opportunity with both hands. They took a risk and were creative people (they were the first to realise that customers were impatient people that wanted what they bought quickly. George Michelle is a leader (I m saying this because a leader is a person who works along with his team, he doesn t issue tasks and just sit back and watch them perform the tasks. George Michell in this documentary actually works along with his employees and he stands behind the counter along with the employees and he takes some of the orders of Mac Donalds). Mac Donald s uses an autocratic management style, this means that the manager is the one that makes all the decisions. Mac Donald s is a franchise company, they listen and follow the rules and regulations the franchisor places (we see this in the documentary when we look at when multiple of people taste the Mac Donald s product to see whether they ve used the right ingredients. A franchisor states that all Mac Donald s use the same ingredients). Mac Donald s in the olden days did not follow the King I report, Mac Donalds only focused on generating profit, they didn t care about the community (people) and the environment (planet). They also didn t follow the King II report, cause they didn t follow some of these principles (e.g the Social Responsibility and Transparency), the reason why I m saying they weren t social responsibility is because back in the days Mac Donald s only focused on profits not the community (people). Mac Donald s were not transparent because even though they knew that their products could cause Obesity, they didn t let the customers/consumers know that, they just carried on selling their products till they had legal issues regarding their products (the super size me documentary) then they started selling healthier ... • 7. Greed In Abigail s Introduction The cause of nearly all of humanity s conflicts and wrongdoings, from wars over land, to massacres, to robberies can be traced back to one human vice: greed. This inherent hunger for property, power, or wealth, can completely take over a person s life and lead to conflict and misery. However, unlike physical hunger, which can be easily satisfied, greed is often intensified, not mitigated by the attainment of what one desires. This self perpetuating nature of greed indicates that the vice is not actually caused by the need for something, as hunger is, but rather the belief that one deserves some object or quality more than everyone else. Thus a person s greed can only be satisfied once that person has all of what he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that compassion can not only overcome greed for a specific commodity, but is capable of conquering one s overall selfishness. Early on in the book, it is clear that Artemis s family is extremely important to him. He worries about his sick mother and is constantly looking for news about his missing father. This sympathy also extends to Butler and Juliet, who although not direct members of the family, help to fill the role that Artemis s missing and insane parents cannot. The book makes this clear in the statement, Artemis was the closest thing Butler had to a friend, and Butler was the closest Artemis had to a father (Colfer 16). The empathy Artemis feels for these four family members: his mother, his father, Butler, and Juliet, begins to weaken his greed very early on in his plot. This occurs as soon as he sees the fairy he is about to kidnap. He thinks, Artemis saw the pain in the creature s eyes as the hollow hypodermic plunged into her body. And for a moment he experienced misgivings. A female. He hadn t expected that. A female, like Juliet, or Mother. Then the moment passed and he was himself again (Colfer 76). In this instant, Artemis recognizes the fairy s pain only because of her similarity to his family. His compassion for his mother and Juliet serve as a gateway for empathy and ... • 8. Analysis Of Nelson Goodman s New Riddle Of Induction Throughout this paper, I will simplify and explain Nelson Goodman s take with the problem of induction. Nevertheless, a concept known as PUN, if proven true, has been asserted by many philosophers to be the answer to such problem. However, this is where I will introduce and clarify upon Goodman s New Riddle of Induction and its claim that PUN by itself is not enough to act as a solution for this case. For starters, the problem is not that we know for sure that something is going to happen, that is the case for deductive arguments. Instead, the problem in simple terms is that it is not justifiable like that of deductive arguments. What I mean by this is, in deduction, if the premises are true then the conclusion must be true, yet the same cannot be said for induction because it relies on predicting what is going to happen based on the premises. However, we have to acknowledge this for what it is, and instead come up with a way that proves that the premises in induction add support to the conclusion. The problem is how exactly is that possible if nowhere does it say what happens in the past will happen again in the future. Which now brings us to PUN or the Principle of Uniformity of Nature that exactly states that instances in the future are going to look like instances in the past. Voila! Since PUN offers a state of uniformity in the world, it works as the link that is necessary for us to make predictions about the future based solely upon what happen in the past. For example, if all observed emeralds are green, according to PUN, I can say that all unobserved emeralds will be green also. Although this may possibly be true, according to Goodman, it simply is not enough to solve the problem as there is a New Riddle of Induction. Moreover, Goodman s main concern with PUN is that it is vacuously true, which essentially means that it is true no matter how the world is. Nevertheless, in order for Goodman to refute PUN, he focuses on a thought experiment that puts green up against a new predicate known as grue. Now one must think as grue as a combination between green and blue, but basically an object is grue if it is first observed before the year 2050, and green, or if it is not observed before 2050, and blue. ... • 9. Animal Testing Arguments Animal testing has been a major issue ever since it began. Many people over time began to realize that it is immoral and that animals deserve rights just as much as humans do. Although many people have realized that animal testing is wrong, there is still an abundance of others who believe that there is nothing wrong with animal testing. Imagine if someone had a pet that they love and someone performed harmful, painful, and fear inducing experiments on them, would the owner think it is okay? No. Then why do people think it is okay to conduct tests on other animals that will feel all the same emotions as someone s beloved pet? Animal testing is wrong and more efforts need to be put into place to stop this cruel act because it is not always accurate, there are alternatives to the practice, and it is not ethical. The first reason as to why animal testing needs to be banned is that it does not always produce accurate results. Animal and human bodies are not exactly the same, so these tests will not accurately predict how harmful products will be to humans. Every time you reach for an eyedrop [eye drop] or reapply [re apply] a lip salve, you do so confident that the chemicals they contain are safe to use. But the toxicology tests on which regulators rely to gather this information are stuck in a time warp, and are largely based on wasteful and often poorly predictive animal experiments (Abbott). Mistakes really cannot be made when testing whether chemical products are hazardous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Importance Of Too Cool For Kids In High School Too Cool for School! Does Facebook Belong in the Classroom? I believe that kids in high school or middle school can benefit from using social media. Kids in high school should definitely be able to access social media and will benefit from it because it can help them fit in. If all the kids in the school are active on social media, they support each other in friendship. It lets every kid be a part of things. Social media can be a great way to connect with others, friends old and new. Kids can even ask teachers questions. • 13. Good vs. Evil in Wuthering Heights Many authors use the setting of a novel to illuminate certain values and principles in their writing. In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte utilizes this technique to enhance the theme of the work. The novel is set in a harsh environment in Northern England, highlighting two specific estates, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, as the main places of action. The dreary landscape and houses not only serve as the primary setting, but also as major symbols that aide in establishing the tone and enhancing the novel s theme of good versus evil. The novel is set in Yorkshire, a barren landscape in an isolated region of Northern England. The detailed descriptions of the environment allow the mood and tone of the novel to be revealed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wuthering Heights is depicted as a cold, threatening, and dark manor, situated on a bleak hilltop. In the novel, wuthering is the local adjective to describe the atmospheric tumult present in the region. The rugged manor, Wuthering Heights, represents a storm , characterized by the wild emotions and harsh behaviors of the inhabitants. The depressing atmosphere causes people to shiver through every limb at the sorrowful sight of the Heights. In deep contrast, Thrushcross Grange is described as a splendid place of elegance and comfort. The peaceful dwelling of the Grange represents higher values and morals, and is considered the calm residence of the novel. The author creatively reveals the theme of good versus evil, or the calm versus the storm, through the pronounced symbolic differences in the houses. In addition, the houses hold distinct personality traits that closely relate to the characters who reside in each. The vivid descriptions of the houses link to certain characters, allowing the reader to gain insight into the character s personalities, thus enhancing the theme. The residents of Wuthering Heights consist of the common, working class people of society. The gloomy characteristics of Wuthering Heights are embodied in the characters who occupy the manor. • 17. How Does The Bible Create A Theology Of Waiting The Bible should undergird every aspect of Christian life. The Bible is where God has chosen to reveal his character, express his desires and to unveil his plan of redemption for humanity. The Bible holds the information that aids to solidify the believer s faith, relays history, offers wisdom, comforts the hurting and communicates the foundational instructions for living a transformed Christ like life. Therefore, this thesis will begin its research from a Biblical perspective, to establish a biblically grounded framework to aid in the development of a theology of waiting. Humanity s experience with waiting is interwoven throughout the whole of Scripture, beginning with Adam and Eve s expulsion from the Garden. The act of waiting is a part of the humanity s metanarrative, culminating with the return of Christ. However, God s love for his creation leads him to implement a plan of redemption that will repair the fractured relationship between himself and humanity. Conversely, the Bible only reveals a redacted version of God s plan, leaving humanity with partial information about the future, which compels us to wait on further instructions directly from Him. The Bible does provide a complete schematic of the redemptive plan, however, the theme that is consistent throughout the plan is that humanity is called to wait on and trust in God to faithfully work out the minute details of his plan. In light of the onslaught of recent public shootings, most shooters being adolescent males, research is resurfacing once again posing the question, Do violent video games influence or cause extreme aggressive behavior and cognition? The research suggests that while violent video games may stimulate internal arousal, there is no evidence to support the theory that violent video games actually cause or provoke adolescents to commit violent crimes. Middle Class Progressives played a vital role in America by seeking reform and influence among the upper and working class. Thus, class assumed a prominent role in influencing the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. Changing Working Conditions In the 19th century, there were several structural changes in the nature of work. These changes included deskilling of jobs, which led to the decline of the heroic artisan and economic depressions. All these factors contributed to tense strikes between workers and employers. During the Antebellum period, most white American workers were self reliant, but the nature of work and production began to shift after the Civil War, as the industrial workplace increased in size, immigration swelled, and the number of wage workers surpassed that of self employed men. Thus, heroic artisans experienced threats with the emergence of a class of permanent wage workers, which killed their republic dreams for American economic self sufficiency, property ownership, and self employment. Nevertheless, the real challenge for white wage Americans began in the 1870s and 1880s, as xenophobic anxieties of Chinese workers emerged. [1] Additionally, the late 19th century was ... Comparing Robinson And Paul Simon s Richard Cory Richard Cory, the name used for the title of two thought provoking works, was a man whose luxurious persona led the world from feelings of admiration to wide ranging envy. In both poems by Edwin Arlington Robinson and Paul Simon, similar tones established esteem and praise towards their subject. However, throughout these verses, both speakers also appeared to shift their acknowledgments into a place of spite and jealously. As the reader began to unfold the nature of the literary works, tones from worship, hardship, and bitterness are all keenly painted throughout the speakers use of contrast, repetition, and negativity by the name Richard Cory . Tone, or the attitude of the writer towards a subject, is depicted equally and similarly in both poems. In this paper, I will first note details of the society under consideration and Basso s interests in regards to the questions he is trying to answer. In the Cibecue community, rituals and traditions still carry great importance and play a significant role in communication, despite intervention from Anglo missionaries to modernize the community. A major part of Basso s interests in the Cibecue community is to study the role of silence in a community where focused gatherings are a common mode of public communication. He looks to examine situations where silence becomes the appropriate communicative process and the reasons why it is considered so. Moreover, these situations of silence only occur during a certain period or circumstance that is defined by tradition as well as experience. Another factor in Basso s interest is to define what human emotion determines the decision to remain silent in a particular situation. A discussion of Basso s definition of the term situation will be provided in the next section. Contextual Concepts In order to completely understand the arguments put forth by Basso in his research, it is vital to understand the concept that communication occurs with or without the usage of speech, and in this case through silence. Although the people engaged in this silence are not communicating directly per se, the silence is an acknowledgement of their presence. It would be so much more profitable if it was legal for recreational use also. Not to mention, the people who do marijuana would stop being thrown in jail. Which is my main beef with it. The federal government paints marijuana as this terrible drug, Compared to those who don t use marijuana, those who frequently use large amounts report the following: lower life satisfaction, poorer mental health, poorer physical health, more relationship problems. People also report less academic and career success. For example, marijuana use is linked to a higher likelihood of dropping out of school. It s also linked to more job absences, accidents, and injuries (National Institute of Drug Abuse). • 39. Negative Effects Of Rejection INTRODUCTION: According to Downey and Feldman (1996), the basic need to belong, the desire to achieve acceptance and to avoid rejection is widely acknowledged to be a powerful motivational drive. Social rejection occurs when an individual is deliberately excluded from a social relationship or social interaction for social rather than practical reasons. A person can be rejected on an individual basis or by an entire group of people. For example it can be missing an invitation to a friend s party, a refusal of a job opportunity, the end of a romantic relationship, or the reluctance of a stranger to talk to you etc. Further, rejection can be active, bullying, teasing or ridiculing, or passive, ignoring a person or giving silent treatment . The experience of being rejected is subjective for the recipient, and it can be perceived when it is not actually present. However, one s perspective on experiencing rejection and the interpretation of the experience rejection vary to a great degree. Since humans are social beings, some level of rejection is an inevitable part of life.
