The Church of Bob Essay
There s no way to define Bob Dylan. His persona has changed with such frequency that his
personal life has become shrouded in mystery. One thing can be certain; his music inspired
revolutions and it provoked a sea change in the hearts and minds of a generation. Musicians,
college students, politicians, civil rights leaders, varying shades of skin, and collars of blue and
white were all bound together by the music of Bob Dylan. The Beatles may have brought
sophisticated chords into pop music but it was Dylan who brought poetry into the mainstream.
No longer did songwriters have to pen the same lyric over and over again in order to make their
way up the pop charts. After Dylan, they could let loose whatever thoughts stuck in their ... Show

The most successful of which was Mr. Tambourine Man. Shortly after The Byrds version was
released the genre of Folk Rock was born and Dylan was at the helm. The Byrds weren t the only
band in the 1960 s that were influenced by Dylan. Endless musicians including The Beatles were
converts to the church of Dylan.
The music found on early Beatles records was a combination of Sunshine Pop and working class
Rhythm Blues. There s no doubt their brand of Pop was brilliant but the lyrics lacked depth,
substance, and sophistication. On their 1964 album Beatles For Sale, a song penned by John
Lennon entitled I m a Loser was the earliest indication The Beatles were under the influence of
Dylan. The song was the first of many introspective tunes written by Lennon and by 1965 there was
no turning back. Lennon began to question the meaning of life and from that point onward; his
heart was prominently displayed on his sleeve.
Dylan s influence spanned all genres including Country Western and one of his biggest fans was
Johnny Cash. Like Dylan, Johnny Cash was a musical renegade loyal only to the muse. Johnny
Cash rushed to Dylan s defense in 1964 when he was slammed in the press for selling out and
abandoning the Folk community. Spurred to action, Johnny Cash published a letter to the editor in
the March issue of Broadside magazine, demanding that Dylan s

Hardwood Floor Research Paper
A Hardwood floor installation is possibly the wisest investment that an individual could do to their
house. A hardwood floor can contribute to one s home decor and generally make the home more
presentable to visitors. Unfortunately preparing for, installing, and finishing a hardwood floor is
usually an undertaking that a professional should do. However, if you feel you are up to the task
here are some steps to help you understand the process.
1. Gather together the needed tools and materials.
One pitfall that people seem to get into is when they do not entirely have the right tools for the
project. Moreover, this is one installation project that will basically demand the right tools or there

This means that the wood will expand or contract based on the amount of moisture in the wood.
The wood is acclimated by opening and spreading out the wood. If this step proves problematic,
consider using engineered word because it does not require an acclimating process. 4. Roll out
the wood. Make certain that the first row of the wood is as straight as it can be. The reason is
because everything that you lay after this point will be based on the straight roll of wood. A
straight beginning wood will make your future rolls to be very tidy looking. On the other hand,
if the wood is clumsily laid it will impact the remainder of your hardwood.5. Lay the wood. This
important step is usually accomplished by Top nailing and gluing the boards. A word to the wise:
there will be scenarios where sometimes the nailing gun will be able to make it in the crannies of
your home. One way to combat this is to use scrap boards for these areas. 6. Finish the wood. This
is perhaps the most important step in wood flooring enterprise and is not a place to cut corners on.
First of all, begin to cut boards lengthwise so they will fit. Second, cut your contours according to
your instruction manual. Third, make sure that you remove any spacers, and finally attach trim and

The Humane Association At An Animal Shelter
Bitterroot Humane Association

Research Paper
Imagine being a staff member or a volunteer at an animal shelter. Imagine watching day in and day
out as animals passed through your doors, the unmistakeable scent of desolation and grief filling
the room like a tidal wave. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly
offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to
encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane
Association. The BItterroot Humane Association is our local pound that takes in lost, abandoned,
abused, or unwanted companions. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be
able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are placed back into loving homes, making
everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot
Humane Association does not give animals a time limit for being put down. Some shelters in
Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not find homes soon enough. Many
animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no
kill shelters, such as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. Several of the dogs
and cats have been there for a long time, which is definitely hard on them. Finally, the humane
association also helps other animals in

they talk about how they re masking their feelings. They pretend to be happy when in reality they
are sad they make people think they re happy because they think no one cares or that they don t

confrontation. This is what todays society does to you.
In the poem Richard Cory, by Edwin Arlington Robinson, it says And Richard Cory, one calm

Do You Speak American Dialect Analysis
In the second episode of Do You Speak American, the major dialects that were discussed were:
Eastern New England, Pennsylvania, Midland, Southern and Western. During the time they spent
in the South, we learned that there are a few different misconceptions about the Southern dialect.
One of those misconceptions are that southern people are stupid because of the way they talk. Jeff
Foxworthy points out some words that southerners tend to say that make people think they are
stupid. For example, the word mayonnaise is used like Mayonnaise a lot of people here tonight.
He also uses the word innuendo, and some Southerners may say Hey dude. I saw a bird fly

Compare And Contrast The Hammurabi Code And The Ten...
Hammurabi s Code Vs. the 10 Commandments Have you ever thought of how and what made
everyone want to follow the law nowadays? Hammurabi s code and the Ten Commandments were
two early (not the earliest) codes of law that were used in the ancient times as methods of justice,
both of the laws shaped society then and now. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient
Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the
Roman civilizations had even developed. Hammurabi made a collection of 282 laws that
established values of manner and justice for keeping order in his kingdom. God engraved the Ten
Commandments on stone tablets that were given to Moses and the population of Israel. Even

Hammurabi s code influenced the people of his kingdom greatly, he set valuable legitimate
standards that have lasted to this day. Not only did this code set standards but it also includes a
modern day take of court and justice procedures. The Ten Commandment shaped people s belief
not only for Christians, it also shaped morality in all cultures and religions. Because of the two
laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced
them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or
be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so
brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make,
civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated,
the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it
establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to
treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture,

Mathematics Is Essential For Life
Mathematics is essential in life. College algebra is a mathematical concept that is currently
being used in biomedical, mathematical, physics, and computer science degrees. This subject is
considered the foundation for advanced mathematical courses. Students typically pursue a
University degree in order to get a decent job after graduation; however, once hired, they are
deficient in able to solve complex problems. This is due because of their lack of ability to use
logical thinking. College algebra may be complex for some, but if one trains our brain to solve
complex problems we will be able to succeed in the real world. From personal experience, college
algebra is known to be a basic in order to receive a mathematical degree. With that said, without the
rules of exponents and algebraic property, we would not be able to solve problems in our future
math classes. Society must be taught algebra concepts as a basic course in the University in order
to be able to solve higher order thinking problems within their life, not just within math itself. In
recent studies, students were interviewed to see how Algebra influenced their attitudes towards
mathematics in their careers. According to Joe Champion, a study was made to identify the degree
to which college algebra students value mathematical skills in their future careers (2010). Besides
content knowledge in mathematics, the following skills: inquiry, critical and creative thinking, are

Insurance can be provided through both private and public insurance marketplaces. Private
insurance companies include plans such as Managed Care Organizations (MCO s) that are mainly
used by employers that want to insure full time employees. There are two types of MCO s called
HealthMaintenance Organizations (HMO s) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO s) (Ridic,

Essay about Locus of Control and Social Behaviour
Imagine, you just recently came down with a cold and you are feeling really sick. How did you end
up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were
stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter s social learning theory, the two
different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life
events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they
have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with
external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus
control concept of internal versus external control can be used to understand... Show more content

Freedom of movement in this case is taken to mean ...a person s generalized expectancy that
any...related set of behaviours will lead to need satisfaction (Crowne, 2009). Evidence suggests
that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need
values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is
still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge
role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if
expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The
concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for
situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept
involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task.
If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any
difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people
with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based,
because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than
ability based activities. Consider the

determine the distance the signal has travelled.
Time Difference of Arrival: TDOA examines the difference in time at which the signal arrives at
different measuring units as opposed to the absolute arrival time in TOA to determine the relative
position of the object. For each measurement, the transmitter must lie in a hyperboloid with a
constant range difference between the two measuring units. The equation of the hyperboloid is as

Anti-Slavery Society Vs. American Colonization Society
An objective for a group to free slaves and pay for them to be relocated in Africa, is a one of the
most influential ways to start an end towards slavery. This group is called the American
Colonization Society. If the support from local and state branches, churches, and federal
government are contributing to provide funds to this cause, it is one way to prove that this is
something that should happen. Think about it, African Americans could enjoy all the advantages of
society, self government, eligibility to office, and freedom from the degradation arising from an
inferiority of caste.
I strongly disagree with slavery. It is clear that I am for the American Anti Slavery Society to
contribute funds for the colonization. Slavery has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason for someone to oppose is because for the slaves that were born in America are more
inclined to stay in the country they are from. This contribution could make the African
Americans feel forced to move to a country they are not familiar with. All the slaves that have
worked hard to build the land deserve the freedom where they are from. Others could say and
believe that its true intent was to drain off the best of the free black population and preserve the
institution of slavery. Finally, when people see that this plan could work it is going to cost money
to buy substantial numbers of people for their freedom. This means that the price of enslaved
people will increase and soon after this situation, it can create problems on how we are going to
fund this contribution and who we are going to decide that will participate in this or not.
To conclude, I completely agree with the American Anti Slavery contributing funds for
colonization and allowing its name to be used in this effort. Besides the reasons for people who
oppose, this is one influential way to slowly end slavery. This is showing the nation that not
everyone is for racism, everyone is changing and not everything is based on the color of your
skin. Slavery has gone on for way too long and from this point it is time to use any situation to help

kills him or herself and the doctor supplies the means knowing what the intention is. The doctor
prescribes a medication to their patient in lethal doses. This allows the patient to choose when they
want to die. They can take the pills at home with friends and family present if they wish or they

immediately challenged in court and prevented from going into effect. As the court cases
proceeded, the Oregon Legislature decided the public did not know what it was doing when it

every court challenge and on October 27, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a hearing to
challengers of death with dignity, allowing the law to go into effect. In November 1997, the voters
of Oregon overwhelmingly voted to support the law. Support for the law has continued to increase

There are some people who believe that PAS is merely another decision that a human being
should be able to make about their own life. It is peaceful and easy to prepare for. When a
person chooses to die it is most likely because they are terminally ill. Meaning, they have a
disease that will only allow them to live for a limited amount of time. Some elderly people want
to have the option of PAS also. Sometimes, they grow old and their bodies cannot function the
way that they used to. This is depressing and discouraging to an older person. They cannot see

Arabella Fight Club Essay
he Fountain of Youth s story has been told many a time throughout the years. This however, is
the very best of them all, full of romance and royalty, peasants and friendships. It is said to have
taken place during the year of King Gilbert s reign. Prince Alexander was the King s only son,
and from a very young age, he was very good at all he did, with very little help from tutors or
private instructors. Though he had only one friend, his nursemaid, Clemence s, only daughter, and
her name was Arabella. Arabella was born just after the princeno longer needed her mothers
services, so he never saw the two together. Arabella was just about 6 years younger than the
Prince, and certainly much farther down on the social pyramid, but no one cared how close they
were, maybe because very few people knew.
Arabella was a parlor maid for many years. The job of a parlor maid was a simple one, she was
expected to spend her time and attention to the drawing room and dining room, helping the
waitress in the pantry, or keeping the library and drawing room in order, and of course she had to
be easy on the eyes for the male guests pleasure and the female guests disdain. As a parlor maid for

Negative Aspects Of Cultural Relativism
Whether we choose to actively acknowledge it or not, Cultural Relativism plays an integral role
in our everyday lives. Cultural Relativism is a theory that is based on the fact that society
dictates what is morally wrong or right. However, just because society approves of certain actions,
does not mean that the actions are morally right. Societies as a whole can and will have mishaps
from time to time. In addition to this, Cultural Relativists do not believe in progress; these
individuals presume that circumstances change. Cultural Relativists also adhere to the core belief
that everyone s ideas are morally equivalent. Though this ideology is the preferred choice of a
majority of philosophers, there is a multitude of flaws that challenge the crux of what we know as
Cultural Relativism. In this paper, I will present two problematic aspects of Cultural Relativism.
From there I will then present their counter arguments, and evaluate the Cultural Relativists
response to these criticisms.
For many years the United States was a hostile environment for a vast majority of African
Americans living in certain areas. These individuals were considered less than human and were
segregated and stripped of basically all of their socio economic rights. According to Cultural
relativists this constant degradation and denial of basic human rights were considered right; since
society deemed it morally right then it must have been morally right. But as I mentioned earlier
societies as a whole can have misguided views. The horrible injustices that these individuals faced
were objectively wrong. This constant mistreatment created a constant tension between citizens of
the United States. It also polarized the nation one side was all for the marginalization of the
African American people and the other side supported African Americans fighting for their rights.
This sort of belief that was considered morally right, was in fact quite debilitating for the United
States. When faced with such an issue, a cultural relativist would argue this point by saying along
the lines of this: individuals who were on the outside looking in have no idea what the American
Culture of this time period was; if you are not an active participant in this

Emile Durkheim Religion Inequality Analysis
Religion in people s lives has been a significant aspect that allows individuals to have an
immense faith on a higher being. This being, known as God for example, has given people beliefs
and morals that affect their social behavior. Although religious beliefs have led to conflicts, it has
also led to a sense of togetherness within different groups. It has created a bond among people who
believe, as it is explained by Emile Durkheim. As an institution, religionhas also been seen by many,
such as Karl Marx, to be a tool used for class oppression.
Emile Durkheim saw religion as a functional institution that reaffirms social bonds between people.
As he explains in one of his works, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative...

For him, religion can only be understood through economics. Religion it is only used as an
excuse to keep society functioning. If people rely on religion for peace and to forget their
worries, they the next day they are refreshed to continue with their work in society. It is stated in
the Andersen textbook that, religion is a form of false consciousness because it prevents people
from rising up against oppression (331). By promising a better tomorrow, inequality is more
bearable. It may bring solace, but it is rather a simple illusion. As Marx once explained, people are
in distress and religion does provide solace, just as people who are physically injured receive relief
from opiate based drugs (Cline 1). However, the opiate based drugs only provide temporary relief.
It does not get rid of the actual problem, which in this case is the suffering of inequality in a
capitalist society.
Durkheim and Marx looked at religion as an institution. Religion is an institution that has had a
persistent impact in society. Both have studied religion and its effects on society. However,
Durkheim has a functionalist point of view, compared to Marx, who sees religion as a cause of
conflict. A functionalist point of view sees religion as a tool of cohesion. As a conflict, religion is
only a tool of oppression and provides a momentary relief that allows the continuation of class

In May of 1992, Manhattan borough president and NLC Advisory Council s Liaison for Diversity
in Governance s Ruth Messinger expressed, Violence begets violence. We must have the strength to
break this cycle out of frustration resulting from detrimental civil rights riots stemming from the
brutal beating of an African American man (Baker). From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors
throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased
verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively
impact an entire city.
On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high
speed chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey
Koon, and Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium,
where they proceeded to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers
striking King with their batons over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los
Angeles, which would soon find itself on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was
eventually taken to trial, where the four police officers involved in the violence against King
were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force. After hearing
the final verdict, many people throughout the city and beyond were enraged, with even mayor
Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the senseless and brutal beating of a
helpless man (Wallenfeldt). Not only were people angry about the verdict of the trial because of
the video evidence and obvious ethical issues, but also because of his race and the belief that his
civil rights had been violated. The outcome of Rodney King s trial angered many Americans across
the country, and eventually caused them to take actions they normally would not.
Later, on April 29, 1992, riots began to break out in the city of Los Angeles and other areas around
the country. During the Rodney King riots, citizens began to experience deindividuation and
feelings of anonymity, making them do things that would normally go against a

Atonement And The Expiation
The word atonement means to set at one or to reconcile. In Christian theology atonement denotes
the doctrine of reconciliation of God and man accomplished by the crucifixion and death of Jesus
Christ (Evangelical Dictionary of Theology). There are two necessary and complementary aspects
of the atonement. The expiation is the removal of sin and propitiation is the satisfaction of Gods
wrath over sin by the incarnation, life, sufferings, and death of JesusChrist. The anticipation of
atonement can be found in many places including Gen 2 3 after the fall of man, Gen 22 with
Abraham sacrificing his son, Ex 11 12 and the plague of the firstborn, Lev 16 regarding the Day of
Atonement, Lev 17:11 blood that, makes the atonement for one s life, Deut

The Government s Energy Star Program
EFFICIENT WASHING MACHINES
INTRODUCTION
The federal government s energy star program was established in 1992 by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). This program is voluntary and started in order to save businesses and
families save money. This program has many companies investing in energy efficient projects to
help boost the market. While promoting these products, the energy star program also helps to reduce
energy consumption and pollution. Along with saving energy, it helps to reduce greenhouse gases.
Reducing the greenhouse gases contributes to the health of individuals and the environment
surrounding them. This will hopefully control the climate changes brought on by the emission of
such gases and strengthen our economy (Energy Star, 2014).
BODY
High efficiency washing machines help families cut energy and water costs (Energy Star,
2014). These machines are front or top loading with a larger tub capacity. Families are able to
wash fewer loads which enables them to use less water. Companies continue working on their
models to save more money. Washers made after 2003 are more efficient. If your washer is more
than ten years old, you should look into purchasing a newer model (Energy Star, 2014). Washing
machines did not earn the Energy Star label until 1997 (Mother Earth News, 2010). When
comparing the how much energy the models use, you need to look at the yellow EnergyGuide
label. This tells you how much energy each load of laundry uses and the

Essay About Role of Social Worker in Homelessness
HOMELESSNESS
DEFINITION
Homelessness describes the condition of people without a regular dwelling. People who are
homeless are unable or unwilling to acquire and maintain regular, safe, and adequate housing, or

The term homeless may also include people whose primary night time residence is in ahomeless
shelter, a warming center, a domestic violence shelter or other ad hoc housing situation.

Greek Wine Case Study
How did the development of the large states and Empires promote wine as a drink of choice?
a.Around 870 BCE, a grand party was thrown to display the wealth of a king, Ashurnasirpal, for a
new capital in Nimrud in the Mesopotamia region. During this time, the king showed off exactly
just how rich the new empire was by making available 10,000 jars of beer, and 10,000 skins of wine
, and at that time wine was 10 times as expensive as beer. Not only was skins imported, but some
were made from his own vines, thus starting the craze of wine in that area.
2.What role did Greek geography play in its economic development and trade?
a.Wine was a heavy and perishable good, it wasn t able to travel long distant on land. The only way
to trade far away was to travel on water. The greek had a surplus of wine, and easy their location

a. Plato believes that too much power is held by ordinary people like a father with his children.
Plato also believed that the wine pourers represent the power of democracy, and they have
encouraged people to drink too much freedom, aka wine. Plato s symposium had the aspects of
good and bad human behaviors, with the good outweighing the bad. For most symposiums it was

Alopecia Research Paper
Luckily, most cases of Alopecia do not require a biopsy, but Diffuse Alopecia may be an
exception. There are no specific blood tests done with Alopecia, but some doctors may do blood
tests to double check for Thyroid disease and will continue the tests if there is a need to. When a
biopsy is done, a needle is injected into part of the scalp to take a piece of skin out. Tests are
done on this tissue to reveal inflammatory cells, which usually looks like a swarm of bees around
the hair follicle. There currently are no cures for Alopecia, but many treatments. The effectiveness
of treatments varies from case to case and some cases that are counted as effective may not be
enough to stop wearing a wig or a hat. True effectiveness is very difficult to determine unless a
placebo treatment is used. Placebo by definition is a pill or substance that is given to a patient like

The Negative Effects Of The Plessy Vs. Ferguson Trial
Segregation had been something the United States had struggled with for years. During the
1890 s segregation started to become more common and white people felt superior to other
races, especially African Americans. White people believed, black people did not deserve the
rights and respect that they had. Homer Plessy, the so called wrongdoer in the Plessy vs
Ferguson case, was seven eighths white and one eighths black, and he had an appearance of a
white man. On June 7, 1892, he purchased a railroad ticket from New Orleans to Covington La,
and sat in an empty seat in a whites only car. Homer told the conductor he was black, and when
asked to leave and move on to the appropriate car, he refused. He was an American citizen who
had bought a first class ticket and deserved to sit on that train. When the conductor called the
police, Homer Plessy was arrested and later in court his case challenged the system and had a large
impact on the African American community. The Plessy vs Ferguson trial affected humanity in both
a positive and a negative way, because of the small negative short term cultural effects, such as
disrespect towards African Americans, and the long term positive effects that lead to the equality
between black and white people.
The Plessy v Ferguson Trial negatively affected humanity in a cultural way, creating separate but
equal rights, challenging the constitution in court, creating the problem of segregation which was
overturned in 1954. To begin, after the case,

Hello Reader!
Whether you have Dyscalculia yourself or you were just wondering what it is, I m here to help you.
I have a sprinkle of dyscalculia, as I like to say. I say a sprinkle because dyscalculia is a teensy tiny
percentage of who I actually am.
Your learning disability is what you make it. I m not saying this in a dismissive way at all. I m
not saying that if you have dyscalculia you re dumb. I m very smart; I just don t have a

you can achieve great things.

Technical Writing And Creative Writing
Many people are unaware that there are many different types of writing. Writing is used in a wide
variety of different subjects. Some people think that left part of the brain is used for technical
writing and the right side is used for creative writing (Patel). Technical writing is used in the fields
of science, engineering, technology and the health sciences (Nordquist). Creative writingis used in
novels, poems, epics, short stories, screenplays, songs, television scripts, etc. (YourDictionary).
Although they have some minor similarities, the differences between Technical writingand Creative
writingare clear.
Technical Writing Background Technical writing is used in the professional world and is always
non fiction. It helps to provide clear communication so that the contents are completely understood.
Technical writing helps to put your ideas out on the table so that they may be considered. The only
way that you can get patents is by providing exactly what your invention does, so you must be able
to communicate clearly so you can receive a patent. The Society for Technical Communication
(STC) offers this definition of technical writing: the process of gathering information from experts
and presenting it to an audience in a clear, easily understandable form. (Nordquist). The biggest
difference between technical communication and the other kinds of writing you have done is that
technical communication has a somewhat different focus on audience and purpose.

Daniel Ainslie is the town doctor. He is a very successful doctor because he is very smart and
very hardworking. He is often to involved in his work and this is causing him and his wife
Margaret to fight constantly. He loves her very much even though they fight a lot. He is a very

have children.
The passage I selected may not be the most exciting but I found it was the most important. It
occurs after Dr Ainslie had just finished operating on Alan for a severe case a appendicitis. He
leaves the hospital and rushes down to the warf not thinking where he is going because there are
so many thoughts rushing through his head. She ll never let me! he heard himself cry out once,

Environmental Effects Of Plastic Bags
I decided to write this report after watching a documentary called, Plastic Bags Environmental
Impacts on YouTube. The video showed poor innocent animals wrapped up in plastic bags and it
made me feel heartbroken. So I wanted to find out what other issues do plastic bags create and if
we really need to ban them, or if we need to find other alternatives, or just manage our use of
them. Plastic bags have a benefit convenience , as most people nowadays use plastic bags for all
sort of things e.g. moving things, reusing for shopping, art and crafts which show people are
reusing them seen they are so convenient. My hypothesis is: Plastic bags are causing a problem
and together we need to find a solution. My key questions are: What are the issues that plastic
bags create? Are their environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic bags? How can we manage
the use of plastic bags? What are the issues that plastic bags create? There are a wide range of
issues around plastic bags, including impacts on animal welfare. According to an article I found on
healthguidance.org One of the greatest problems is that an estimated 300 million plastic bags end
up in the Atlantic Ocean alone. So just think of the poor sea life that go hunting and mistake a
floating plastic bagfor a meal and end up suffocating and experiencing a slow, painful death. 86%
of all known species of sea turtles have had reported problems of entanglement or ingestion of
marine debris including plastic bags (post

describes the delightful pleasure of creating chocolate, whereas the second extract is used to

Therefore, the text shows a thematic development, which are split up into the different paragraphs.
On the other hand, the second extract uses a larger variety of structures throughout the text. In the
first paragraph the company is introduced and the beliefs which the company has ( We believe
that every step from ban to bar is equally important ). Further, under a heading with care the
history of the chocolate beans and how they reach the factory is described and then bullet points
are used to describe how chocolate is created from the beans. Therefore, this text also has a
thematic development, but in this text it is supposed to familiarize the reader with product and the
process to allow the reader to trust the brand, due to the traditional way of producing chocolate.
The register of the first extract is rather informal, since it explains the story of the narrator and her
/his passion creating a very personal relationship between the narrator and the reader. A very
important part of the extract is to show the fascination and the passion about chocolate, therefore,
the diction is customized to transfer these emotions. Diction such as raw dullish blocks and
powerfully suggestive shows that chocolate is connected to emotions due to the descriptive
adjectives used to describe the chocolate, its history and its process. This informal register allows

There are eight categories regarding project failure and one of the biggest failure in the Ford
Pinto case is the quality failure. As I previously mentioned the car was developed and introduced
to the market only 25 months after they launched the project, the average time it takes is 43
months, Ford Corporation decided to take a shortcut to save time, and did not test the rear end of
the car. Even though the engineers at Ford knew the problem with the gas tank, and that it cannot
withstand a hit of 20mph they still released the car. Investing more time would allow them to
come up with a solution or find a different material that would prevent gas tanks from exploding,
bursting in the flames, and causing so many injuries. Quality is very underestimated these days,
the main goal of big corporations is to generate big amounts of revenues even if the product can
be potentially lethal for the consumers. The way to fix this problem is to implement stronger
safety regulations and make company follow them, those regulations should also be updated more
frequently especially because there are new and better innovations created practically every day
nowadays. Another big project failure Ford Corporation leaders made was to release the car
besides the insufficient testing and being aware of the flaws with the Pinto. The leaders of Ford

The Colonization Of The Algonquins In North India
Port Royal was the first post under the control of the Catholic French colony of Acadia. From
this location the French were able to impact northeast Canada and America to the Great Lakes
and down the Mississippi River. The French came into contact with many different tribes. One of
the most powerful and diverse groups was the Algonquins. They were composed of many
different groups. The French successfully interacted with the Abenaki, who were part of the
Algonquin. They lived in settled villages with cultivated land for farms and were peaceable.
Father Peter Biard helped with the care of the Native Americans in this area. With great
difficulty Father Biard landed at Port Royal and set his mind to learning the language of the
surrounding tribes. However, he was not highly welcomed by the French in the area and
struggled for the basic necessities to even survive, which caused him to move to a different
location. He turned his attention to the Kennebec River and soon planted the cross and gave it
the name of the Holy Saviour. While the mission was being established he ventured into the
interior. Father Biard heard crying which was from a sick little Indian boy. He rushed to baptize
the boy before he died with the permission of his father. He then prayed to the Great Father to
save the boy, which happened. Father Biard by this wonder of saving the boy gained their
interest and attention. However, the mission was destroyed. It was not until the Franciscans
came into the area later when they established a new mission by the mouth of the St. Lawrence
River. Patience was a key factor in the missions as they had to deal with many obstacles and
barriers to overcome. Father Paul Le Jeune writes about this struggle, If you wish to converse, in
order to instruct them, it will sometimes be necessary to wait whole hours before finding
opportunity to say to them at the right time one profitable word; and after all your pains and your

In the marketing sense, we speak of identifying the needs and wants of the consumer. The package
presented by Disney to the customer met neither of these. Disney cannot control the environment!
True success lies in adapting oneself to the surrounding culture, being marketing oriented is finding
success in customer satisfaction. Disney fails on both counts. Cultures are dynamic and change
occurs when resistance slowly yields to acceptance so the basis for resistance becomes unimportant
or forgotten [2]. Which means that on the part of the European community we are certain to see
compromise, but over a period of time. Disney too has to reconcile with the environment it has

Splendid Little War Essay
A Splendid Little War A Splendid Little War was an alternative title to the Spanish American
War named by Ambassador John Hay to his good friend Theodore Roosevelt. This war was one

death in this war wasn t by being shot, but by dying of diseases such as Yellow Fever, Malaria
and other diseases. Only 9,413 Spaniards were killed by wounds and combat and 53,540 were

Slavery Impact On Slavery
Transatlantic trade slavery, facilitated by the European powers, is an era of slavery that is often
discussed and is often regarded as the most impactful form of slavery in terms of the number of
people it impacted and the geographical area that it covered. While the Transatlantic slavery trade
is an important topic it is not the only slaverytrade that existed. Ancient slavery in Rome is a topic
worth acknowledging and analyzing. The article Slavery in the Ancient World by A.H.M. Jones, the
article The Bitter Chain of Slavery : Reflections on Slavery in Ancient Romeby Keith Bradley and
Frank M. Snowden, and the article The Roman Slave Supply by Walter Scheidel all ask important
questions regarding slavery in Ancient Rome. The articles share similar themes and ask important
questions regarding the source of Roman slaves, the costs of Roman slaves, the number of

Drug Trafficking Persuasive Speech
A 16 year old boy named Jimmy went to a party for one of his fellow classmates party. Little did
he know what was gonna be at the party. He showed up and had been having a good time until he
got asked if he wanted to smoke. Luckily he declined it and left the party after that happened. He
was appalled that somebody in his grade and so young be doing those things and how in the world
could they even get them. Well that is from drugtrafficking. Drug trafficking is a illicit trade
involving the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and sale of substances which are subject to
drug prohibition. Drugs are brought into the U.S. every day, so much that it s become almost
effortless to get drugs. Drugs are a major and growing problem in the U.S.. According to the
Center for Disease Control and Prevention, In 2014 a total of 47,055 drug overdose deaths
occurred in the U.S. In additional to this The United States Department Of Justice calculated that

We should focus on more problems like murders and gun laws. While guns and murders is a very
important and popular topic, it should not be put to the side, yet how are we going to solve those
things from being stopped if we can t stop the things that are driving us to do those things.
One of those things are drugs, so first we have to figure out how to cure drug trafficking before
we can lead onto many other problems. Drugs are a major and growing problem in the U.S.. It
has become a national problem and is affecting and ruining many lives of people and their
families. It needs to be stopped. It may never be able to be fully put to end, but there is always
room to help and subdue it. If we don t it will come to a point where there is no stopping it and
no going back. The numbers of people using will just go up with no chance of going down. We

Parenting Styles Research Paper
Parenting is something that usually comes naturally to people. There are no hard fast how to
manuals or rules to parenting. People generally just learn as they go. Most things are just second
nature, like feeding, clothing and generally caring for a child. However, as a child grows and
other children are born, parenting becomes more then simply handling the child s everyday
needs. Sometimes parents feel they need some help in deciding the best way to parent their
children. There have been many people who have spoken out about parenting and offered advice
and assistance to parents in need. Parenting styles are an example of something a parent can do to
help them with their parenting. A parenting style is basically a way to describe how a parent
parents their child or children. There are 3 basic types of parenting styles.... Show more content on

Sheltering Sky versus Blood Meridian Essay
Extreme circumstances bring about substantial changes in people. At least that is what Paul
Bowles and Cormac McCarthy seem to be saying in the writing of their respective books, The
Sheltering Sky and Blood Meridian. Both authors place their characters in difficult locations,
dealing with difficult people and expect them to emerge changed, for better or for worse. In The
Sheltering Sky, Bowles takes his American trio and places them in the desert landsof the African
continent where the wide, dry impossibly desolate terrain takes its toll on their minds and bodies.
Likewise, McCarthy takes his ragged bunchof marauders, most prominently the Kid, and has them
wandering the massive expanse of the untamed west. This convention of forced... Show more

Both parties chance upon characters, both eccentric and dangerous, and all involved seem to get
themselves into the most impossible situations imaginable. Apparently the point Bowles and
McCarthy are trying to convey to the reader is that great change and substantial inner growth can
only come about through intense emotional stress and physical challenge.
Kit, in The Sheltering Sky, learns some very interesting things about herself through the course of
our travels with her. She starts out as Port s wife, a secondary character of sorts, afraid to voice
her opinions on virtually everything. We have the inside track on her thought s and feelings
though, and are privy to the fact that she is unhappy not only with her situation and current
location, but also with her marriage and identity. We get our first glimpse of her realization of
these problems on her train ride with Tunner, as Port is traveling with the Lyles. Her spontaneous
affair with Tunner is a symptom of her unhappiness and is the beginning of a downward spiral that
takes her to the brink of insanity and far beyond. We see the beginning of her growth in her
encounter in the Fourth Class cabin of the train when see comes in close contact with the miserable
peasant folk and she realizes that aside from their cultural differences she is no better than these
simple folk and in some ways she is far worse. As her story progresses we, the reader, get to see the
progress of her downfall due to the

Trashing The Workplace
Organizational Behavior Beyond Flextime: Trashing the Workweek J.A. Counter s ROWE
program includes influence tactics as well as a couple of power bases. The influence tactics
prevalent in this case are soft tactics because they are worker friendly and not coercive at all.
Inspirational appeals are present in this case because the decision to incorporate ROWE into the
work environment at J.A. Counter is a direct approach to appealing to all employees. They are no
longer bound by set days and times to be present at their jobs but rather given the motivation to
complete their tasks by a certain time but at their own pace, hours chosen, and days preferred. This

Skoglund has enabled employees to now make decisions about their work days and
performance. She has done away with mandatory hours and days that undoubtedly held time
constraints for specific tasks to be completed. The employees now have freedom to decide when
and for how long they will attend their job (physically). In implementing the ROWE program,
Skoglund has given all employees authority to make decisions. Skoglund s decision to
implement the ROWE program has given the employees major say in the workplace, mainly
focused on their personal desire to come and go as they please and work the hours they
themselves decide. In most organizations, this seems an invitation to chaos but according to this
case, it has increased productivity therefore I do not feel employee empowerment has been taken
too far. The goal of employee empowerment is to increase productivity and competitiveness
(Kreitner amp; Kinicki) and in this case, that goal has thus far been met. This could also be
defined as participative management. J.A. Counter has successfully established a balance between
the employee s self interests and the organizations interests by incorporating the ROWE program.
The ROWE program will have a positive impact at J.A. Counter because the owner has
intentionally enhanced the self interest of the employees (p. 452). The ROWE program alleviates
any challenges in the amount of power any employee has over another; they are all given

Relationship Between Nursing Profession With Scholarship,...
The purpose of this paper is to integrate the relationship between nursing profession with
scholarship, praxis, and evidence based practice to improve quality of care for individuals and
their respective societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of
a scholar, learning, and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of
academic study or achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an
essential part of our professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in
ethical practice. Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their
practice and the care environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen
most times from the point of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies
and seek evidence for every aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and
identifying gaps where evidence is lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have
graduate level content that builds upon an undergraduate foundation in health assessment,
pharmacology, and pathophysiology. Having a master prepared graduates with a strong
background in these three areas is seen as imperative from the practice perspective (American
Association of College of Nursing [AACN], 2011, p. 9). The scholarship consists of continuing
education on advanced degree programs. This advancement

The Effects of MTV on American Culture Essay
MTV, formally known as Music Television, is one of the most viewed networks on television
today. Roughly thirty three years old, it has changed the American culture drastically in more than
just one way. Specifically targeting teens and young adults, the MTV network provides all of the
most up to date gossip on celebrities, highlights the latest fashion trends, promotes versified
lifestyles, and defines the music industry of our generation. However, this so called idolized
network has not always been this way. The American culture has been affected by MTVthrough the
creation of the network, the transformation from simply just music television to inappropriate

Reality shows can be defined as a catch all category that includes a wide range of entertainment
programs about real people. The MTV network executives quickly realized how fast the world
around them was changing; so on May 21, 1992, seven random strangers were picked to star on
the show The Real World. This show modernized MTV by connecting viewers to the world and
current culture around them. It also demonstrated that the network was not just about airing the
hottest music videos of the year. Even today, The Real World is stil the forerunner of the
American reality show genre. The reality genre has mass appeal. Because of this, MTV started to
create more reality based shows. As more reality shows were created, the MTV network made the
executive decision to create another network channel to further the demands of viewers. So, they
created M2, formally known today as MTV2.
As MTV started adding reality shows, the air time for music videos began to decrease
incrementally. The original purpose for M2 was to broadcast the most recent music videos of the
decade through commercial free air time both on television and online streaming. This would
hopefully bring in more viewers because of the lack of commercial interruptions. However,
because M2 was restricted to less widely available digital cable and satellite television, which
limited its audience reach to around 12 million homes by 2000. As time moved on, people wanted

Symptoms And Treatment Of Vascular Closure
Background
Vascular closure devices following cardiac catherization through the femoral artery have been
gaining significant traction since its use in the mid 1990s. Compared to the previous gold standard
of manual compression, VCDs allow for shortened time to ambulation, decreased duration of
hospitalization post procedure, and increased patient comfort. The devices have also shown
safeness comparable to manual compression. Despite the many advantages and variety of devices
available, there are still complications to take into account. More common issues include device
failure, bleeding, and hematoma. Less common but more serious complications include infection,
ischemia, limb loss, and death.

Due to these findings patient was directly admitted to the hospital and placed on a heparin drip. On
physical exam patient had absent pulses below the right femoral artery. However, there was no
discoloration, change of temperature, or sensory as well as motor deficits of the right lower
extremity. Patient was taking a low dose aspirin and red yeast rice for cholesterol management at
that time.
The following morning the patient underwent successful angioplasty of the right common femoral
artery with thrombectomy and a 6 x 20 mm balloon angioplasty, reducing a 90% stenosis to less
than 30%. A spider catheter was deployed to perform the thrombectomy, however an atrial blazer
catheter failed to retrieve the spider device as it was unable to completely collapse. As a result the
patient was taken to the OR for vascular surgery. The spider basket was retrieved through the wall
of the common femoral artery with its contents.
The specimen was sent to pathology, which noted a foreign body device surrounded by soft tissue
attached to the spider device. The foreign body was noted to be a Angio Seal plug from the left heart
catheterization that had been presumed a thrombus.
Discussion
Promising results have shown that the Angio seal VCD has excellent efficacy and safety after
routine catheterization and intervention. However, clear indications of use and risk of
complications need to be evaluated and monitored.

Indian Women s Role In The Fur Trade Society
The reading that I will respond to will be the from the second week reading, which is about the
role of the native women in the fur trade society. The story intrigued me, since the story is about
the role of woman and it is a rather controversial topic. The role of woman was rather unclear in
the past with the men dominate all the power ladder inside the society. It is not a surprise that
native womandid not get any credit at all for their hard work as they are viewed as workforce, a
piece of chess moved by the men to benefit themselves. The author of the book is trying to help
the women to regain their credit in the society. Understanding history will not be complete with
only the help from the men s perspective, it requires perspective from both genders and this idea is
being strongly grasped by the author to prove that sexual difference makes us to understand the
history as a whole.
For starter, the reading claimed that the fur trade has been viewed as an all male affair, but new
research has indicated that Indian woman played a rather significant role in this trade. This is not a
surprise to me regarding the involvement of Indian women and how they impact the trade. During
that era, everything is dominated by male and it is natural that the male getting all the ... Show more

could change the course of history. The same things goes for women, even though their

Dance In Swan Lake Interpretation
Watching Silja Schandorff s fully realized performance in Swan Lake teaches much about what
it takes to make a swan, and what it takes to dance Peter Martins choreography. Schandorff, a
principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet and one of the originators of the role when it was
created on the Danes in 1996, replaced Miranda Weese in the dual role of Odette and Odile. I ve
now seen four women in these roles (Meunier, Weese, Whelan and Schandorff) and there s no
question that Schandorff was the best prepared, even with having to fly trans Atlantic and with
perhaps a day s rehearsal with her partner. She s now done the role for three years, but even more
importantly, the thought that struck one like a thunderbolt on even her first entrance was My
God! She s actually been *coached*! There was never a single moment Schandorff seemed left
to her own devices. It didn t look fey, or artificial and overcoached, it just didn t look thoughtless.
It s not even a matter of her arms and legs being in the right position (they were, always.) She
knew who she was, whether Odette or Odile. She knew who Siegfried was. She always knew
why she danced. She knew when she was swearing her love, when she was saying no , when she
was leaving him forever. I m not trying to denigrate Schandorff by emphasizing how much it seems
she had help. She also very obviously has excellent instincts and facility and can act. But in a full
length narrative ballet like Swan Lake, instincts are not enough,

Analyze The Values Of American Society
The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more
disadvantages than advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of
agreement on most of the values considered American could be detrimental to the country and as
an international power. Most American values revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a
goal. Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are all values considered the
focus of most Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating the
competition, one can acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can
push a nation forward economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources
are wasted, foreign relations are strained, and many within the country are left struggling.
Capitalism is moral and practical as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and act
productively to sustain one s life and experience happiness on earth. In macroeconomic terms,
capitalism is the best system available and the system America has always used. When looking at
individual communities and families struggling to simply make ends meet, it is easy to question
why the government will not set in and help its own people. When America was smaller and
agriculturally focused, capitalism worked for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Look at that innocent face! The layers of professional applied makeup, and the fluttering false

Animal Testing And Its Effects On The Poor Treatment Of...
An increasing number of activists believe that animals have rights. However, this idea is
somewhat controversial because animal activists look down upon the poor treatment of animals.
They have a fear that animal testing is causing abuse and suffering to the helpless animals. Animal
testing is a fairly serious matter because of all of the malfunctions and harm that leads to animal
suffrage. The types of animals being used, such as rats, mice, rabbits, and chips are selected
specifically for the test that is being performed. The outcomes of the test, depends on which animal
is being tested and what it is being examined for. Common tests being used on animals include,
medicinefor humandiseases, cosmetic products and their reactions, and students in training utilizing
animals in educational laboratories. Many different types of species are used for testing and
experimentation, but the most common types are mice, rats, rabbits, and chimpanzees. Rodents
such as rats and mice are commonly used for testing products for many reasons, one being their
frequent reproduction. Mice and rats are mammals with nervous systems similar to our own
therefore, they are tested and given cancer, tumors, paralysis, and high levels of anxiety and
depression in their immune systems. Rabbits are often used in animal testingand experiments

  • 2. The Church of Bob Essay There s no way to define Bob Dylan. His persona has changed with such frequency that his personal life has become shrouded in mystery. One thing can be certain; his music inspired revolutions and it provoked a sea change in the hearts and minds of a generation. Musicians, college students, politicians, civil rights leaders, varying shades of skin, and collars of blue and white were all bound together by the music of Bob Dylan. The Beatles may have brought sophisticated chords into pop music but it was Dylan who brought poetry into the mainstream. No longer did songwriters have to pen the same lyric over and over again in order to make their way up the pop charts. After Dylan, they could let loose whatever thoughts stuck in their ... The Byrds weren t the only band in the 1960 s that were influenced by Dylan. Endless musicians including The Beatles were converts to the church of Dylan. The music found on early Beatles records was a combination of Sunshine Pop and working class Rhythm Blues. There s no doubt their brand of Pop was brilliant but the lyrics lacked depth, substance, and sophistication. On their 1964 album Beatles For Sale, a song penned by John Lennon entitled I m a Loser was the earliest indication The Beatles were under the influence of Dylan. The song was the first of many introspective tunes written by Lennon and by 1965 there was no turning back. Lennon began to question the meaning of life and from that point onward; his heart was prominently displayed on his sleeve. Dylan s influence spanned all genres including Country Western and one of his biggest fans was Johnny Cash. Like Dylan, Johnny Cash was a musical renegade loyal only to the muse. Johnny Cash rushed to Dylan s defense in 1964 when he was slammed in the press for selling out and abandoning the Folk community. A hardwood floor can contribute to one s home decor and generally make the home more presentable to visitors. Unfortunately preparing for, installing, and finishing a hardwood floor is usually an undertaking that a professional should do. However, if you feel you are up to the task here are some steps to help you understand the process. 1. Gather together the needed tools and materials. Make certain that the first row of the wood is as straight as it can be. The reason is because everything that you lay after this point will be based on the straight roll of wood. A straight beginning wood will make your future rolls to be very tidy looking. On the other hand, if the wood is clumsily laid it will impact the remainder of your hardwood.5. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane Association. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are placed back into loving homes, making everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot Humane Association does not give animals a time limit for being put down. Some shelters in Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not find homes soon enough. Many animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no kill shelters, such as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. Hammurabi s code and the Ten Commandments were two early (not the earliest) codes of law that were used in the ancient times as methods of justice, both of the laws shaped society then and now. Hammurabi s code goes back to ancient Mesopotamian culture that flourished way before the Bible was written or the Greek and the Roman civilizations had even developed. Because of the two laws/codes, civilizations learnt what was right and what was wrong; the two laws influenced them to do the same. What would happen if one disobeyed the rules? It would count as a sin or be punished, which is also the way legal judiciaries do, however the punishments are not so brutal. Why? Because people have learnt how to be wise with the decisions they make, civilizations have gotten a moral sense because of these laws. In addition to the last point stated, the two laws give a basic and complex legal code that defends the innocent, punishes the guilty, it establishes a right to own and regulate private land, allows for self defense, enforces the law to treat people with respect etc. All of the laws stated above apply to modern day society and culture, especially in judicial ... • 10. Mathematics Is Essential For Life Mathematics is essential in life. College algebra is a mathematical concept that is currently being used in biomedical, mathematical, physics, and computer science degrees. This subject is considered the foundation for advanced mathematical courses. Students typically pursue a University degree in order to get a decent job after graduation; however, once hired, they are deficient in able to solve complex problems. This is due because of their lack of ability to use logical thinking. College algebra may be complex for some, but if one trains our brain to solve complex problems we will be able to succeed in the real world. From personal experience, college algebra is known to be a basic in order to receive a mathematical degree. With that said, without the rules of exponents and algebraic property, we would not be able to solve problems in our future math classes. Society must be taught algebra concepts as a basic course in the University in order to be able to solve higher order thinking problems within their life, not just within math itself. In recent studies, students were interviewed to see how Algebra influenced their attitudes towards mathematics in their careers. According to Joe Champion, a study was made to identify the degree to which college algebra students value mathematical skills in their future careers (2010). How did you end up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter s social learning theory, the two different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus control concept of internal versus external control can be used to understand... Evidence suggests that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept involve activities that require one to make judgments about one s own skill or aptitude in a task. If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based, because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than ability based activities. This group is called the American Colonization Society. If the support from local and state branches, churches, and federal government are contributing to provide funds to this cause, it is one way to prove that this is something that should happen. One reason for someone to oppose is because for the slaves that were born in America are more inclined to stay in the country they are from. This contribution could make the African Americans feel forced to move to a country they are not familiar with. All the slaves that have worked hard to build the land deserve the freedom where they are from. Others could say and believe that its true intent was to drain off the best of the free black population and preserve the institution of slavery. Finally, when people see that this plan could work it is going to cost money to buy substantial numbers of people for their freedom. This means that the price of enslaved people will increase and soon after this situation, it can create problems on how we are going to fund this contribution and who we are going to decide that will participate in this or not. To conclude, I completely agree with the American Anti Slavery contributing funds for colonization and allowing its name to be used in this effort. This however, is the very best of them all, full of romance and royalty, peasants and friendships. It is said to have taken place during the year of King Gilbert s reign. Prince Alexander was the King s only son, and from a very young age, he was very good at all he did, with very little help from tutors or private instructors. • 19. Negative Aspects Of Cultural Relativism Whether we choose to actively acknowledge it or not, Cultural Relativism plays an integral role in our everyday lives. Cultural Relativism is a theory that is based on the fact that society dictates what is morally wrong or right. However, just because society approves of certain actions, does not mean that the actions are morally right. Societies as a whole can and will have mishaps from time to time. In addition to this, Cultural Relativists do not believe in progress; these individuals presume that circumstances change. Cultural Relativists also adhere to the core belief that everyone s ideas are morally equivalent. Though this ideology is the preferred choice of a majority of philosophers, there is a multitude of flaws that challenge the crux of what we know as Cultural Relativism. In this paper, I will present two problematic aspects of Cultural Relativism. From there I will then present their counter arguments, and evaluate the Cultural Relativists response to these criticisms. For many years the United States was a hostile environment for a vast majority of African Americans living in certain areas. These individuals were considered less than human and were segregated and stripped of basically all of their socio economic rights. According to Cultural relativists this constant degradation and denial of basic human rights were considered right; since society deemed it morally right then it must have been morally right. But as I mentioned earlier societies as a whole can have misguided views. The horrible injustices that these individuals faced were objectively wrong. This constant mistreatment created a constant tension between citizens of the United States. It also polarized the nation one side was all for the marginalization of the African American people and the other side supported African Americans fighting for their rights. This sort of belief that was considered morally right, was in fact quite debilitating for the United States. When faced with such an issue, a cultural relativist would argue this point by saying along the lines of this: individuals who were on the outside looking in have no idea what the American Culture of this time period was; if you are not an active participant in this ... This being, known as God for example, has given people beliefs and morals that affect their social behavior. Although religious beliefs have led to conflicts, it has also led to a sense of togetherness within different groups. It has created a bond among people who believe, as it is explained by Emile Durkheim. As an institution, religionhas also been seen by many, such as Karl Marx, to be a tool used for class oppression. Emile Durkheim saw religion as a functional institution that reaffirms social bonds between people. As he explains in one of his works, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For him, religion can only be understood through economics. Religion it is only used as an excuse to keep society functioning. If people rely on religion for peace and to forget their worries, they the next day they are refreshed to continue with their work in society. It is stated in the Andersen textbook that, religion is a form of false consciousness because it prevents people from rising up against oppression (331). By promising a better tomorrow, inequality is more bearable. It may bring solace, but it is rather a simple illusion. As Marx once explained, people are in distress and religion does provide solace, just as people who are physically injured receive relief from opiate based drugs (Cline 1). However, the opiate based drugs only provide temporary relief. It does not get rid of the actual problem, which in this case is the suffering of inequality in a capitalist society. Durkheim and Marx looked at religion as an institution. Religion is an institution that has had a persistent impact in society. Both have studied religion and its effects on society. However, Durkheim has a functionalist point of view, compared to Marx, who sees religion as a cause of conflict. A functionalist point of view sees religion as a tool of cohesion. As a conflict, religion is only a tool of oppression and provides a momentary relief that allows the continuation of class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The 1992 Rodney King Riots Of 1992 Kara Paulsen Ms Seibert Honors English 9 4 May 2017 Rodney King Riots of 1992 In May of 1992, Manhattan borough president and NLC Advisory Council s Liaison for Diversity in Governance s Ruth Messinger expressed, Violence begets violence. We must have the strength to break this cycle out of frustration resulting from detrimental civil rights riots stemming from the brutal beating of an African American man (Baker). From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively impact an entire city. On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high speed chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey Koon, and Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium, where they proceeded to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers striking King with their batons over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los Angeles, which would soon find itself on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was eventually taken to trial, where the four police officers involved in the violence against King were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force. After hearing the final verdict, many people throughout the city and beyond were enraged, with even mayor Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the senseless and brutal beating of a helpless man (Wallenfeldt). Not only were people angry about the verdict of the trial because of the video evidence and obvious ethical issues, but also because of his race and the belief that his civil rights had been violated. The outcome of Rodney King s trial angered many Americans across the country, and eventually caused them to take actions they normally would not. Later, on April 29, 1992, riots began to break out in the city of Los Angeles and other areas around the country. During the Rodney King riots, citizens began to experience deindividuation and feelings of anonymity, making them do things that would normally go against a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

White people believed, black people did not deserve the rights and respect that they had. Homer Plessy, the so called wrongdoer in the Plessy vs Ferguson case, was seven eighths white and one eighths black, and he had an appearance of a white man. On June 7, 1892, he purchased a railroad ticket from New Orleans to Covington La, and sat in an empty seat in a whites only car. Homer told the conductor he was black, and when asked to leave and move on to the appropriate car, he refused. In The Sheltering Sky, Bowles takes his American trio and places them in the desert landsof the African continent where the wide, dry impossibly desolate terrain takes its toll on their minds and bodies. • 48. Relationship Between Nursing Profession With Scholarship,... The purpose of this paper is to integrate the relationship between nursing profession with scholarship, praxis, and evidence based practice to improve quality of care for individuals and their respective societies. The Oxford English dictionary defined scholarship as the attainments of a scholar, learning, and erudition in a person (Scholarship, 2016). Scholarship is a noun of academic study or achievement, learning at a higher level. Scholarship in nursing has become an essential part of our professional evolution. Professional nursing practice at all levels is grounded in ethical practice. Essentially, nurses need the constant searching and analysis attitude toward their practice and the care environment. The conceptualization of scholarship in nursing has been seen most times from the point of teaching and research. The master s prepared nurses examine policies and seek evidence for every aspect of practice, thereby disseminating current evidence and identifying gaps where evidence is lacking. Students being prepared for direct care roles will have graduate level content that builds upon an undergraduate foundation in health assessment, pharmacology, and pathophysiology. The MTV network executives quickly realized how fast the world around them was changing; so on May 21, 1992, seven random strangers were picked to star on the show The Real World. This show modernized MTV by connecting viewers to the world and current culture around them. It also demonstrated that the network was not just about airing the hottest music videos of the year. Even today, The Real World is stil the forerunner of the American reality show genre. The reality genre has mass appeal. Because of this, MTV started to create more reality based shows. As more reality shows were created, the MTV network made the executive decision to create another network channel to further the demands of viewers. So, they created M2, formally known today as MTV2. As MTV started adding reality shows, the air time for music videos began to decrease incrementally. The original purpose for M2 was to broadcast the most recent music videos of the decade through commercial free air time both on television and online streaming. It s not even a matter of her arms and legs being in the right position (they were, always.) She knew who she was, whether Odette or Odile. She knew who Siegfried was. She always knew why she danced. She knew when she was swearing her love, when she was saying no , when she was leaving him forever. I m not trying to denigrate Schandorff by emphasizing how much it seems she had help.
