Charles Dickens Sacrifice In Great Expectations
Resurrection Charles Dickens was a very talented writer and had a great upcoming from his rough
childhood. Dickens was born in Portsmouth England on February 7th, 1812 and was the child of
Elizabeth and John Dickens. Life was rough growing up in the Dickens family, as in February of 1824
the Dickens family went completely broke. As a result of this financial tragedy, Charles Dickens was
sent to work at Warrens Blacking a polishing factory for shoes. Many more significant events occurred
in Spring of 1824, when John Dickens outstanding debt led to his arrest. This turned around in April
of 1824, When Dickens mother passed away. Mrs. Dickens left the family 450 euros, bailing John out
of jail and allowing Charles to enroll into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Almost eighteen years. I hope you care to live. I can t say. Dr. Manette, a man figuratively returned
from the grave and given life again, is the first of many characters in the novel whose life story is the
story of death and resurrection(Griffith). Dr. Manette also saved Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two

An Abused Child s Reality
An abused child s reality is different from the imagination; in the mind one can create happiness in a
make believe universe. The concept of fusion between a dreamland of vision and reality could never
occur in concert; two separate worlds controlled by violence; upon a whim a moment of fear could
escalate, therefore, the restriction in place will, in prison one s soul to suffocate in due time. This
restricts the personality from developing and the mind from believing it possesses the power to create
those dreams in reality. Several unpleasant disorders, poor choices, death, even murder, ends up
happening. Every mind is different, that means every choice is different, one person will handle
horrible experiences more appropriate than another,

The Concept of Postmodernism
CHAPTER 1 The concept of Postmodernism A Theoretical Approach It is a cliché by now to say that
we live in a postmodern world, and it is true that the word postmodern has become one of the most
used, and abused, words in the language. Still, it is striking that not many people can say with
assurance what this term actually means and involves. Some theorists suggest that postmodernism
refers to a mood or an attitude of mind, others define it as a literary, cultural, or philosophic
phenomenon. Either way, critics haven t agreed on a common definition for the concept. Brian
McHale points out that every critic constructs postmodernism in his or her own way from different
perspectives, none more right or wrong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the work is preoccupied with the postmodern valences of contemporary dance, we shall move
on to the next layers of the discourse, concentrating on theoretical points of view which will serve as a
fundamental base for our analysis of contemporary dance. 1. 1. Postmodern Aspects of Contemporary
Dance When trying to subsume the postmodern features of contemporary dance, Linda Hutcheon
quotes Sally Banes: (...) in order to include, for instance, the sorts of things which (under the
influence, perhaps, of performance art) are considered postmodern in dance: irony, playfulness,
historical reference, the use of vernacular materials, the continuity of cultures, an interest in process
over product, breakdowns of boundaries between art forms and between art and life, and new
relationships between artist and audience (Banes 1985: 82).[x] In addition to these aspects we could
also enumerate other characteristics of contemporary postmodern dance such as: identity politics,
recontextualization, fragmentation, use of technology in performance, nostalgia. Since the dance
discourse came to resemble in many ways the fictional or narrative one, we consider that terms such
as parody, pastiche, intertextuality, are not only appropriate, but also relevant for such a discussion. 1.
1. 1. Parodic and Ironic Discourse The concepts of parody and irony are given special attention by
Linda Hutcheon in The Politics of Postmodernism. She states

Social Work Intervention
INTRODUCTION
School social work and its purpose is first discussed in Chapter 3. Before 21st century we are not sure
why it did not have formal position. However, in order to demise child labor and include cultural
sensitivity for immigrants; school social work began to take its form (Jarolmen, 2014). The school
social worker has been charged with lifelong learning to increase professional development,
awareness of local, state and federal laws; as well as the position to link services to students, families
and co educators. This practice behavior will allow the school social worker to ensure that every child
will receive the tools necessary for educational success. School social workers possess the ability to

46). Standard 4 (a) of the NC Professional School Social Work Standards 2004, informs you that as a
professional school social worker you must be knowledgeable of strength based interventions. The
school social worker must also include the support of other stake holders within the educational
process of the student. For instance, principals, administrators, counselors and other support personnel
may be solicited by the school social worker to implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS) which is
an intervention used to deter negative behavior of a student demonstrating signs of behavior disorder
even before it becomes a problem (Merchant, Anderson, Caldarelli, Young, Young, 2009 as cited in
Jarolmen, 2014).In addition, NC Standard 4 (a) elaborates that school social workers must exercise
assessments to correctly establish the need of the student as well as identify service gaps within the
school setting. Authors Scott, Nelson, Zabala, (2003), explains the process of using assessments such
as the Functional Behavior Assessment . The Functional Behavior Assessment is used to develop a
behavioral intervention plan for the student as needed. This assessment is just one of many
assessments utilized within the school setting (Scott,

Stop And Frisk Policies
1. How do you think stop and frisk policies affect the relationship between law enforcement and
minorities in America? When thinking in The Police, as responsible for law and order, people often
expect respect to the standards and protection. But, when law enforcement goes beyond the
boundaries of civil rights and becomes abusive, the relationship between those involved just breaks
out. The main problem of the stop and frisk policies does not seem to be its mystique to prevent the
crime Is its execution. In that order, the statistics cited by the four newspaper articles provided to the
forum, show that the focus of the stops is a stereotype of crime based on racism and discrimination,
and not a legal reasonable suspicious . Such

City Of Ember Movie Vs Book
There is a giant mole, crazy water ride, and kids running from guards in the movie, City of Ember.
City of Ember was written by Jeanne Duprau. The City of Ember book was about a city underground
and it doesn t have much light left. The city has blackout s. The City of Ember novel and film have
many similarities and differences; however the movie was a more entertaining experience. The
similarities between the City of Ember novel and film include: Lina and Doon switch jobs, the mayor
is corrupt, and the blackout helps Lina escape the mayor. Lina and Doon switching jobs is important
because they both figured out clues that helped them out of Ember. The mayor being corrupt is
important because he has the most power. The blackout helping

Tax Reform Persuasive Speech
It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen, bishops,
knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for England to take, is
to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most well educated
individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own petulance, that you fail to
realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. England s defenses are well kept, and have proven
time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather than focusing on tax reform
that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we should instead focus our efforts
towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we continue to revive our economy.
There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay for this tax, especially after the rise of
enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite princely ambition, for passion is a
dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from what is truly important. The current
state of England s defense is more than optimal. We have numerous castles which have withstood the
brunt of invasion and protected our great nations. Take Dover for example which overlooks the
English Channel, and the Strait of Dover. God has graced us with ... Show more content on

We should not be motivated by fear, but by God. For if war were truly to break out, our fortifications
will be rendered useless if we are not in the Lord s favor, no amount of money can save us from his
glorious wrath. And the Lord certainly does not favor those who are motivated by temporal goods.
Peace is far more beneficial than the spoils of war, and the rewards are far greater than simply by
glory and extension of territory. England is safe as long as her prince holds himself in a virtuous light

Black Tuesday
The stock market crash, October 29, 1929 this is also known as Black Tuesday. The Great Depression
was an economic slump in North America and Europe. The industrialized Western world had
experienced the most ruthless and prolonged depression. Cinderella Man is only one example of how
families struggle and overcame the great depression. You will see how this effective many Americans.
Why the stock market crashed, was due to two factors, economic and financial. For example economic
factors where, poor distribution of wealth, many consumers relied on credit, credit dried up, consumer
spending dropped and industries struggled. Financial factors were a threat to the stock market rise in
the mid 1920s. Speculation in stock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In view of the fact that consumers are not purchasing as much food, farmers are struggling in saving
their farms. Also, the drought or also known as the dust storms are contributing to this reason. Since
people were not buying as much the farmers could not afford to keep the farms, and the drought was
making it even more difficult to grow food. Therefore, unable to make payments they would either file
for bankruptcy or may be foreclosed. With these failures came unemployment, this is cause by not
having enough jobs for people. The unemployment rate rose up to 25 percent, some areas where even
higher than that. Hoovervilles and hoboes where the new social groups created by unemployment.
Hoovervilles are people who lived in shacks on the out skirts of towns or parks to accommodate the
homeless. Hoboes were people who took to the road. They would travel from town to town in search
of work, food and housing. A lot of them would try to travel by boarding a moving train this was
extremely dangerous. Hoboes develop a language all to their own to tell each other of honest and
dishonest opportunities. The Great Depression took a highly emotional toll on every American.
The depression affected Jim Braddock and his family in many ways. One way was he could not get

Although modern medical dictionaries often differ in their exact definitions of asphyxia, all refer to
oxygen deprivation often combined with failure to eliminate carbon dioxide . Life depends on oxygen
and deprivation of oxygen causes cell injury or death due to decreased oxidative respiration 1. Oxygen
deprivation can occur due to failure of: uptake, transfer across the alveolar capillary membrane into
the blood, transport in the blood from lungs to tissues, utilization within the tissues and inadequate

The Dark Room And Making The Golden Trim Sparkle
The morning sun shone through Hermione s window, illuminating the dark room and making the
golden trim sparkle. It had been three weeks since she took the job at the Malfoy Manor, and while it
was a beautiful house it s windows were not well insulated. Birds hopped from branch to branch
chirping loudly as Hermione rose from her surprisingly comfortable bed to start her morning. Her
routine was set, every day she would wander the spacious halls admiring the artworks on the walls and
the trophies on the shelves before attending a silent breakfast with Lucius, which she after she would
go to the library and continue her work until night fell.
Today, Hermione was sitting at a small desk checking books off a list as they flew through ... Show

Fear of the disapproval of Lucius if she were late fueled her. Hermione made a sharp turn into the
section, her eyes glued on the dark rich mahogany shelves. Hermione wondered why Lucius approval
meant so much to her, perhaps it because he s her employer?
Panting for air, only supported by the pudding that was her legs, a sweat drop ran down Hermione s
face as she stood outside the door to Lucius office, with a quick freshening charm and a few deep
breaths Hermione raised her hand to knock on the door.
You re late. Lucius hissed as he promptly opened the door before Hermione could knock. Hermione s
hand rested on the back of the chair she had sat in mere weeks beforehand, the end of their last
meeting flashed into Hermione s mind, causing her to shift uncomfortably.
The book you requested, Hermione said as she attempted handing the book over to Lucius, who was
facing away from her. Sir, I was wondering, why d you need a book about planning? asked Hermione.
Lucius whipped around to face Hermoine.
Ahh, yes, the book, I will explain. now, take a seat Lucius said. His hand gestured to the chair as he an
evil smile crept onto his face. Hermione hesitated before sitting down, her eyes trained on Lucius
waiting for a response. Lucius slowly circled Hermoine, like a shark waiting for right moment to

The Psychological Abuse Of The Holocaust
There have been many atrocious acts that the world has had to endure, but there is not one that stands
out as much as the Holocaust . Millions of Jews were used as scapegoats because of the declining
economy. This all eventually led to the Germans trying to completely eradicate their race. Even
though the Germans did kill 7 million Jews there were many survivors of the Holocaust who live to
this day with profound effects in every facet of their life. The effects that we re looking at are: the
psychological abuse that the holocaust kids went through and how it affects them in them in their
everyday life in the present, how the adult survivors transmit their trauma unto to their kids, how
second generation holocaust are biologically different from the normal human, and how the Jews are
starting to go back to their homeland to deal with their stress.
The first point is the psychological abuse that the holocaust kids went through and how it affects them
in them in their everyday life in the present. During the Holocaust kids didn t generally survive due to
the fact that they couldn t perform the intense labor required in the labor camps. They had to grow up
quickly and assume roles that children wouldn t normally have to act out. Even though the children
were young they were surprisingly adept in adapting to their situation and using all of the resources
available to them at this time. Even with all of theses coping mechanisms and the protection of their
parents the

TECHNOLOGY, INEQUALITY, AND UNDERDEVELOPMENT:
THE CASE OF LATIN AMERICA

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
In Technology, Inequality, and Underdevelopment: The case of Latin America Rodrigo Arocena and
Peter Senker lay out the realities of why there is economic inequality and thus a lack of technological
advancement in Latin America. Arocena and Senker argue that economic inequality is the main
driving factor behind underdevelopment and a lack of technological change in Latin America. One of
the major factors for the lack of technological change in Latin America is the lack of research and
development (R D). While globally R D decreased between the mid 1980 s ... Show more content on

They explain that during the last half of the nineteenth century, an outward oriented period of growth
started in Latin America, based on the export of raw materials to emerging industrial nations. Unlike
the ruling classes in other parts of the world, the so called oligarchic order in Latin America
concentrated the resulting large surplus in the hands of small traditional elites who imitated the
consumption patterns of European upper classes, rather than seeking to enhance their countries
education, technology and production infrastructure (Arocena and Senker 2003). In the late 1950s and
early 1960s, industrialization failed to reach a point at which it was self sustaining. While there were
plants and factories in Latin America that could produce consumer goods, only a comparatively small
wealthy segment of the population could afford to purchase these consumer goods as opposed to the
large segment of the United States and West Europe populations. This restricted expansion of the
internal market for manufactured consumer durables, and the expansion of manufacturing
employment. Accordingly this did little or nothing to reduce inequality. Industrialization produced by
inward investment and by internal consumption of expensive products could only be sustained in
Latin America in a period when external funding was easy to obtain. This came to an end with the debt
crisis of the 1980s. Latin

The Pros And Cons Of Cinderella In Disney
Disney reigns supreme, and part of that supreme reign is an unquestionable privileging of patriarchy,
and in particular: whiteness. Beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, all of Disney
s princesses have been predominantly white. As Walt Disney Company sets its position as a media
powerhouse, it places itself the center of controversy with its recent movie The Princess and the Frog.
The film is steeped in racial controversy since Disney first announced their plans for the first black
princess.
Disney came out with a black princess, and a controversy by critics came out along with it, and they
are not pleasant. Considering Disney has such a presence in the American mainstream culture, that
standard they create will stay. The real question is whether she vanquishes stereotypes of promotes
them.
Without fail, everyone describes Cinderella as Disney s 1950 animated blonde Cinderella. Participants
rarely visualize the African American pop singer and actor Brandy Norwood, who played the lead in
the 1997 televised version with its multicultural and interracial star studded cast. To date, participants
always see Cinderella as white. Disney set the standard. Disney scholar Kathy ... Show more content

Dreams. Everyone has Dreams. Something for someone to think about when they re in times of

The music in those final twenty minutes are so powerful, that I remember bawling my eyes out and
clapping in the middle of the theatre. To this day, I still have Mia and Sebastian s Theme on my phone.
On screen chemistry is incredibly important aspect to making a movie that includes two or more
people; and this movie absolutely nailed it. With a movie about a failing actress and jazz pianist that
fall in love in Las Angeles, the actors have to be both good and convincing. Emma Stone and Ryan
Gosling do an amazing job playing a couple who fall in love in a difficult part of their lives. They re
acting was so good; they both got nominated for an Academy Award; but sadly, only Emma Stone got
the award. Emma Stone deserved that award; and she gave a performance that will live on for
generations.
What really saddens me is how blind people can be to how beautiful a musical can be. From the many
reviews I ve read, many of them are written by people who just hate musicals in general. However,
there are also people who are unbiased about the genre of the movie; and actually, think that Ryan
Gosling s acting is bland and Emma Stone s singing and dancing is hard to watch. Although; I believe
that Lala Land is a masterpiece that should be praised for decades upon decades. I ve heard opinions
from my friends that I may have forced to watch the movie; and every single person has said nothing

Negative Effects Of Smartphones
With the evolution of today s technology, widespread smartphone use did not begin until the mid to
late 90 s. Smartphones, being readily available, offer society a world of conveniences. This technology
combines that of a computer with other electronic goods into a single handheld instrument. While one
may argue that the smartphone has many negative effects, far more benefits come to mind. The
smartphone does offer users several conveniences that make life easier and more efficient. It seems
smartphones add value to people and businesses, as well as provide benefits to improve the quality of
life using various functions. Today s smartphones allow users to stay in touch with family and friends
no matter what part of the world they reside. In times of emergencies, smartphones can even help
users feel safe. The technology of today s smartphone has enabled society to become more efficient in
daily activities, communicate more effectively, as well as provide relief in emergencies.
Smartphones are Easy and Efficient
Based on the growth rate of smartphones, the number of consumers that carried one was
approximately 2 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach over 5 billion by 2025 (Götz, Stieger, Reips,
2017). The smartphone has made life easy and efficient by having the capability to support a wide

National Incident Management System (NIMS)
After September 11, 2001, the Department of Homeland of Security was formed in response to the
terrorist attacks. Out of the birth of the agencies formed, the National Incident Management System
(NIMS) was created to allow clear allocation of resources and a systematic approach to emergency

response are imminent to respond to the disaster. Many of these agencies are emergency management,
police, fire, health, and EMS from all levels of government. NIMS can be used on any type of incident
and of any size or scope in nature. In Smith County, an E 4 tornado touched down in Stadtown
leveling many of the homes and the shopping mall (Walsh, D.W., et al, 2012). Command was
established by the local on the scene within minutes of touchdown. Given the impact of a potential of

Theologian and author Brian Davies in the first section of chapter five of his 2004 book An
Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, discusses the evidence that highlights the ideal of God s
existence through the Ontological Argument. Davies believes that some of these hold a good argument
while others lack logical reasoning to conclusively state therefore there must be a God. Davies begins
with an example of the Ontological Argument presented by Anselm, who believes that if God can be
conceived in thought and it is far greater for that being to actually exist, then God must exist. I find
this to be misleading. That creating an ideal in someone s intellect/imagination somehow necessitate
the means to attribute the existence of God to be true in the realm of reality. Another illustration
Davies brings up is the perspective that existence is perfection. He refers to Descartes idea that If God
is supremely perfect, and if existence is perfection, it follows that God exists and that this is so to
contradict oneself (100). Referring to the idea that it is better to exist, rather than not to exist.
However, if this was the case all little girls would be riding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Insisting that the ideal that existence is perfection is a misinterpretation of Anslem s argument, but
insist the interpretation means Gods existence is a necessity. Davies continues with an example from
Alvin Plantinga which adjusts Malcolm s argument, further adding the aspect of multiple worlds
having the possibility of a being that has Maximal Greatness. He establishes his terminology for the
argument by describing maximal greatness, which he entails [as] omniscience, omnipotence, and
moral perfection (102). Plantinga believes that if there is a being with maximal greatness in one of
these possible worlds therein lies that a being of maximal greatness would exist in all

A Modern Artist From Norway
Edvard Munch, a modern artist from Norway, born in Løten in Hedmark on 12 December 1863. He
grew up in a family of seven, with four other siblings, a mother and father characteristics of a happy
family but instead turn out to be quite the opposite. As a child he suffered from chronic asthmatic
bronchitis and rheumatic fever debilitating most of his childhood. Surrounded by death, Munch
witnessed the passing of most of his family. One by one his mother, sister, and even Munch himself
suffered from Tuberculosis, however, he would be the only one to survive it. Tragedy did not stop

Munch would always be reminded of his family s death, their torment followed his shadow and further
encroached on his mind the more time went on. Various styles, motifs, and paintings from artists such
as Claude Monet and Eugène Carrière inspired his work. However, Carrière s Sick Child, 1885 would
be a pivoting point in influencing his own painting of the same name. One of Munch s first work that
showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s.
His painting depicts his sister Sophie bedridden from Tuberculosis and his mother mourning beside
her waiting for her to pass. He paints in a very melancholy tone and the color gives the viewer the
impression of sickness and sorrow. He expresses his feelings years later describing how few have ever
experienced the full grief of their subject as I did in The Sick Child. (qtd. in Prideaux 85 86). Munch s
painterly style allows us to feel the anguish and pain he must have felt while painting The Sick Child.
His process is also rather significant compared to the end product itself and provides clear insight into
his emotional state whilst he painted.
Munch not only painted with a brush but he chose to also use a palette knife for this particular painting
to show the marks of visible misery, which can be seen with the scratchy and unfinished texture. What
is even more interesting is his use of layers. His determination in layering his painting over and over

Health Care Issues Of The American Indian Population
Health Care Issues in the American Indian Population Jennifer Lozada St John Fisher My dad always
called me a mut , meaning I had too many ethnic backgrounds to count. He was never sure what the
percentage of each of my ethnicities was. I have multiple, from both my parents sides from German,
Puerto Rican, Pennsylvania Dutch, Dutch, Italian, and lastly that I know of Cherokee Indian. Always
being very interested in my background I choose to understand why American Indian became and
vulnerable population to begin with. Wanted to understand why this population had so many health
care issues. Our nomadic ancestors of our modern Native Americans as we know today made their
way over the land bridge from Asia which is now called Alaska over more than 12,000 years ago.
Dividing these nomadic areas into culture areas, or groupings of connecting people who shared similar
habitats and characteristics into 10 separate culture areas: the Arctic, the Subarctic, the Northeast, the
Southeast, the Plains, the Southwest, the Great Basin, California, the Northwest Coast and the Plateau.
Focusing on the Southeast, I want to narrow it down to Cherokee Indians because this is my
background ethnicity. This being one of the American Indians that we associate with today in our
vulnerable populations and health care issues. These nomads were known for their farming, growing
staple crops to survive. They were called one of the five civilized tribes . The main issues that

The Importance Of Social Class In America
Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are
characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of
deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but with
many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher wages too.
Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower class. Around
14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting up for foreclosure.
The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made by one issue but rather
a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of however they were permitted,
and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which institutions that should be helping the
people to finance. The conviction that material belonging enhances people s lives and social prosperity
pervades in America. As opposed to this belief different studies demonstrate that materialists
contrasted with non materialists have individual and social prosperity. Compulsive and impulsive
shopping, debt, diminished savings overall decrease the well being of people and other undesirable
results have all been connected with materialistic behavior. American materialism has found its ways
to millions in America. Success is measured in the materials and the social class a person is in. This

United for One
In the book, Outcasts United, by St. John, my favorite chapter is actually the first one. Chapter one is
all about Luma, the soccer coach of the refugees. The reason chapter one is my favorite is because she
reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants to part from her parents and stay in the United States of
America. Her choice came with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with
her again if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the family
until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my favorite is because I can
relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to me moving out at too young of an age. I
moved to the city to be closer to work and school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I
think I relate most to Luma. There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the
whole book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when Luma knows
she has to find a new field for her fugees to play on. According to St John, on page 93, the YMCA
calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her. She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma
always wanted the best for her players. I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number
one struggle I never give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly
doesn t care about anyone s negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to Luma. Just

Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They were
both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing
they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of
making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out.
So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu
or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their
relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of
that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head
of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone
might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo,
who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had
never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love
somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the
Capulet s grand party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him
and his two friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly

Literature in the ESL Curriculum
The place of literature in education Why read literature? To many of us, such a question seems as
strange as asking why breathe? as literature has been part of our life, family, school, and community
for as long as we can remember. Of course, there are those who argue that what today s students need
is preparation for the real world, but in the push for practical preparedness we sometimes overlook the
importance of educating students imaginations. Literature offers windows to worlds outside students
experience as well as mirrors onto the world they already know. Literature also prepares students for
the personal challenges and moral dilemmas they are likely to face. We interpret the world constantly

What can easily be tested by questions with wrong and right answers is not, typically, what is of most
interest and value in the literary text. From 1939 to 1945, literature becomes a political safeguard
against indoctrination and propaganda and as a way to know what others were thinking. Literature is
increasingly seen from 1945 to 1957 as only appropriate to advanced level study, to which the student
gains access after having mastered the linguistic structures carefully graded through audiolingual
methods, a pleasurable reward for the successful, and an entertaining supplement to audiolingual drills
. In the next period, roughly 1957 to 1979, culture becomes a more important area of study and
literature is seen as reflecting a particular culture. From 1979 until the end of twentieth century
literature comes to be valued in the context of the rise of communicative language teaching, as
authentic text . Now literature gives the opportunity for vocabulary acquisition, the development of
reading strategies, and the training of critical thinking. The learner is the most important in the
communicative paradigm, the author, his or her intentions tend to be forgotten and the language of the
text is more an inconvenient obstacle on the way to examination of culture and society, rather than
central to those notions, and of interest in itself. A similar story emerges

Nature Vs. Nurture Discussion
Millions of children start new lives every day. The process of their development has always been of
question to us; we are completely unaware of the exact processes that they go through. Human
psychologist continue to ponder the dispute of whether the factors that structure a human are
biological or circumstantial. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus
nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly
analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to
nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create
the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue
eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that
contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the
environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of
personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events
differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or
register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the
hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again.

Letter From A Birmingham Jail Rhetorical Analysis
While Martin Luther King Jr. was locked up in a jail he received a letter from eight clergymen. They
reached out to King in a letter that is called A Call for Unity. In this letter, they are telling king that
people needed to stand up and try to make a change by peaceful protesting to get their point across ( A
Call for Unity ). King then replies to their letter with a letter of his own which is known as Letter from
a Birmingham Jail. King states that he gets a lot of letters and doesn t reply to them but he thought that
the clergymen meant good so he would try to answer their questions to the best of his ability (King).
Also in the letter, he focuses on what is going on in Birmingham at the time and tells about himself
and how he oversaw a lot of planning comities (King). In the Letter from a Birmingham Jail King uses
three main ways to connect with the audience of the letter and those are ethos, pathos, and logos.
Ethos can be a very effective way of reaching out to the people, because it is showing what kind of
person that you are and in a way what is expected out of you. Ethos is sometimes most affective at the
begging of the letter because it is laying out the background of the author. King states I have the honor
of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference... (King). When King made
this statement towards the beginning of his letter it was showing that he had power over people. Not
only was he showing that he had power he was also showing that he was a Christian and worked with
others to do something that they believed in. King then goes on to state I cannot sit by idly by in
Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham . Some people may not understand
why I would label this ethos, I label it that way because he is showing that he cares about things that is
a distance away from him and he does not just care about what is happening in the city that he is
currently living in. By King saying that he is a Christian people would expect a lot out of him, because
he a person that people look up to daily. King is also a person that people would go to for advice with
him being a president.
Pathos in my opinion could be one of the best ways to connect with your

Eventually they obtained an address where some of the biofuel production was occurring but when
they arrived at the site all they found was a couple of empty containers.
In May 2011 Judge Beth P issued several warrants and seizures warrants for Hailey s home, office,
bank account and other valuable items in possession because of RIN sales. Internal Revenue Service

informed him that a suspicious person had been sighted on his property and if the department could

Hailey was eventually sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for selling false RIN and pocketing $9.1

pay $42.2 million in restitution. Hailey was charged with wire fraud, engaging in an illegal monetary

Summary Of Planned Parenthood Vs Casey Case
When laws or executive orders defy the Constitution, the Supreme Court is responsible for deciding
between competing American values.. The Court ensures the basic rights of its citizens are protected
and defines civil liberties. In 1992, Planned Parenthood v. Casey addressed the issues concerning
abortion because of the Pennsylvania Abortion Control Act of 1982. This ruling was important to the
nation because individual liberty was being denied to women. The values that were in conflict in
Casey was the basic liberty for women to control reproduction and the protection of unborn babies.

Ginsburg, concurring with the majority states, When a State severely limits access to safe and legal

lead women to another alternative that consists of an unsafe abortion. While this ruling upheld women
s right to a safe and legal abortion, States still have the opportunity to intervene and persuade women
to not get an abortion as seen in Hellerstedt. Through the rulings made in Roe, Casey, and Hellerstedt,
society has slowly progressed in accepting women have the basic liberty to control reproduction.
Some individuals have learned to put aside their religious and moral beliefs when it comes to making
a decision that will affect women. Overall, the United States still remains at conflict over the

This shows that the work of the Suffragists, the Suffragettes and Women s War Work all contributed to
some extent into changing the attitudes of men, which therefore allowed women to receive the vote in

of the people act extended the vote to all males over 21 and to males who were 19 and had been on
active service during the war. The vote was also extended to women over the age of 30 who were
householders, the wives of householders, occupiers of property with an annual rent of £5 and women

Figure 4 presents the authors concise algorithm, proposed to encourage the 133 adoption of a

Spinal stenosis defined as a 193 dynamic, structurally based narrowing of the central canal, lateral

Furthermore, this tendency toward 203 intermittent manifestations, along with the lack of specific

such as vascular 205 claudication or hip osteoarthritis.

What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men
re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories
that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first
category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags around
with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In Shrek,
Donkey and Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly moments,
such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and constellations together.
Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house, and he ends up letting him sleep
on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George are usually nice to each
other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or screws up, George will get frustrated and
tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t there with him, then he wouldn t have to take
care of him and that he could have an easier life. An example is on page 13, when George says to

Foreign military and economic intervention by European imperial powers created greater instability in
China. Western powers, through an unequal treaty system, engaged in legal imperialism that gave
them protection through special rights and privileges that gradually reduced Chinese tradesmen to a
subordinate role. Opium trade, fueled by Britain, drained China of silver, and drove up the price of
silver. Silver was the standard payment for taxes, but rising prices made tax payments an economic
burden for peasants. The First Opium War, 1839 to 1842, resulted in the defeat of the Chinese and the
signing of the Treaty of Nanjing. The treaty forced ceded Hong Kong to the British and open treaty

The Six Major Barriers In Business Communication
Six Major Barriers in Communication In Chapter 2 of our textbook, Business Communication For
Success by McLean (2010), six major barriers to effective business communications exist. These are
cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Each of these barriers
can harm relationships, cause misunderstandings, delay work, and cause unnecessary drama in the
work place and in everyday life (Washburn, 2008). This is why discussing them and learning from
previous mistakes will help you identify when you are using them and hopefully help prevent their use
in the future. These major barriers can be very detrimental when used during communication.
The Six Barriers The six major barriers to effective business communication lead to misunderstanding
and often times conflict. Being able to identify them allows you to combat the misunderstanding by
seeking to overcome the barrier. This could also prevent conflicts from arising and keeping
communication lines open and trustworthy by avoiding the use of the six obstacles (McLean, 2010).
To avoid these obstacles, it helps to know what each one means and having examples to reference. I
hope these examples can be used to learn from and not be held against my character as I regret my
part in using these barriers in the past.

For instance, principals, administrators, counselors and other support personnel may be solicited by the school social worker to implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS) which is an intervention used to deter negative behavior of a student demonstrating signs of behavior disorder even before it becomes a problem (Merchant, Anderson, Caldarelli, Young, Young, 2009 as cited in Jarolmen, 2014).In addition, NC Standard 4 (a) elaborates that school social workers must exercise assessments to correctly establish the need of the student as well as identify service gaps within the school setting. Authors Scott, Nelson, Zabala, (2003), explains the process of using assessments such as the Functional Behavior Assessment . The Functional Behavior Assessment is used to develop a behavioral intervention plan for the student as needed. When thinking in The Police, as responsible for law and order, people often expect respect to the standards and protection. But, when law enforcement goes beyond the boundaries of civil rights and becomes abusive, the relationship between those involved just breaks out. The main problem of the stop and frisk policies does not seem to be its mystique to prevent the crime Is its execution. Tax Reform Persuasive Speech It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen, bishops, knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for England to take, is to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most well educated individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own petulance, that you fail to realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. England s defenses are well kept, and have proven time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather than focusing on tax reform that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we should instead focus our efforts towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we continue to revive our economy. There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay for this tax, especially after the rise of enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite princely ambition, for passion is a dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from what is truly important. Arocena and Senker argue that economic inequality is the main driving factor behind underdevelopment and a lack of technological change in Latin America. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They explain that during the last half of the nineteenth century, an outward oriented period of growth started in Latin America, based on the export of raw materials to emerging industrial nations. Unlike the ruling classes in other parts of the world, the so called oligarchic order in Latin America concentrated the resulting large surplus in the hands of small traditional elites who imitated the consumption patterns of European upper classes, rather than seeking to enhance their countries education, technology and production infrastructure (Arocena and Senker 2003). In the late 1950s and early 1960s, industrialization failed to reach a point at which it was self sustaining. While there were plants and factories in Latin America that could produce consumer goods, only a comparatively small wealthy segment of the population could afford to purchase these consumer goods as opposed to the large segment of the United States and West Europe populations. This restricted expansion of the internal market for manufactured consumer durables, and the expansion of manufacturing employment. Accordingly this did little or nothing to reduce inequality. Industrialization produced by inward investment and by internal consumption of expensive products could only be sustained in Latin America in a period when external funding was easy to obtain. Existence Of God In Anslem s Ontological Argument Theologian and author Brian Davies in the first section of chapter five of his 2004 book An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion, discusses the evidence that highlights the ideal of God s existence through the Ontological Argument. Davies believes that some of these hold a good argument while others lack logical reasoning to conclusively state therefore there must be a God. Davies begins with an example of the Ontological Argument presented by Anselm, who believes that if God can be conceived in thought and it is far greater for that being to actually exist, then God must exist. I find this to be misleading. That creating an ideal in someone s intellect/imagination somehow necessitate the means to attribute the existence of God to be true in the realm of reality. Another illustration Davies brings up is the perspective that existence is perfection. He refers to Descartes idea that If God is supremely perfect, and if existence is perfection, it follows that God exists and that this is so to contradict oneself (100). One of Munch s first work that showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s. The reason chapter one is my favorite is because she reminds me a lot of myself. Luma wants to part from her parents and stay in the United States of America. Her choice came with the consequences of her parents and sister not communicating with her again if she chooses to stay in the US. Her grandma would still communicate about the family until she passes away in a later chapter. Another example of why this is my favorite is because I can relate to tons of it. My dad no longer talks to me due to me moving out at too young of an age. I moved to the city to be closer to work and school but in his eyes I was sinning. This is also why I think I relate most to Luma. There are other reasons why I think that I relate to Luma. Throughout the whole book, Luma never wants to give up. For example in chapter nine, Get Lost , when Luma knows she has to find a new field for her fugees to play on. According to St John, on page 93, the YMCA calls and lets Luma know they found a field for her. She never gave up on her high hopes. Luma always wanted the best for her players. I am just like Luma, as I never give up on things. My number one struggle I never give up on is my exercise. Luma has a great strength in her hopes. She honestly doesn t care about anyone s negative opinions. It is crazy how much I think I relate to Luma. Just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Montagu And Capulet In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Once upon a time there lived in Verona two great families named Montagu and Capulet. They were both rich, and I suppose they were as sensible, in most things, as other rich people. But in one thing they were extremely silly. There was an old, old quarrel between the two families, and instead of making it up like reasonable folks, they made a sort of pet of their quarrel, and would not let it die out. So that a Montagu wouldn t speak to a Capulet if he met one in the street nor a Capulet to a Montagu or if they did speak, it was to say rude and unpleasant things, which often ended in a fight. And their relations and servants were just as foolish, so that street fights and duels and uncomfortablenesses of that kind were always growing out of the Montagu and Capulet quarrel. Now Lord Capulet, the head of that family, gave a party a grand supper and a dance and he was so hospitable that he said anyone might come to it except (of course) the Montagues. But there was a young Montagu named Romeo, who very much wanted to be there, because Rosaline, the lady he loved, had been asked. This lady had never been at all kind to him, and he had no reason to love her; but the fact was that he wanted to love somebody, and as he hadn t seen the right lady, he was obliged to love the wrong one. So to the Capulet s grand party he came, with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio. Old Capulet welcomed him and his two friends very kindly and young Romeo moved about among the crowd of courtly ... • 31. Literature in the ESL Curriculum The place of literature in education Why read literature? To many of us, such a question seems as strange as asking why breathe? as literature has been part of our life, family, school, and community for as long as we can remember. Of course, there are those who argue that what today s students need is preparation for the real world, but in the push for practical preparedness we sometimes overlook the importance of educating students imaginations. Literature offers windows to worlds outside students experience as well as mirrors onto the world they already know. Literature also prepares students for the personal challenges and moral dilemmas they are likely to face. We interpret the world constantly in all our experiences every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What can easily be tested by questions with wrong and right answers is not, typically, what is of most interest and value in the literary text. From 1939 to 1945, literature becomes a political safeguard against indoctrination and propaganda and as a way to know what others were thinking. Literature is increasingly seen from 1945 to 1957 as only appropriate to advanced level study, to which the student gains access after having mastered the linguistic structures carefully graded through audiolingual methods, a pleasurable reward for the successful, and an entertaining supplement to audiolingual drills . In the next period, roughly 1957 to 1979, culture becomes a more important area of study and literature is seen as reflecting a particular culture. From 1979 until the end of twentieth century literature comes to be valued in the context of the rise of communicative language teaching, as authentic text . Now literature gives the opportunity for vocabulary acquisition, the development of reading strategies, and the training of critical thinking. The learner is the most important in the communicative paradigm, the author, his or her intentions tend to be forgotten and the language of the text is more an inconvenient obstacle on the way to examination of culture and society, rather than central to those notions, and of interest in itself. • 32. Nature Vs. Nurture Discussion Millions of children start new lives every day. The process of their development has always been of question to us; we are completely unaware of the exact processes that they go through. Human psychologist continue to ponder the dispute of whether the factors that structure a human are biological or circumstantial. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Fight Club Existentialism The film Fight Club has generated controversy from the very moment it was released. Critics have both acclaimed and denounced this film. At the same time, it has been a fan favorite, ranking 14 on IMDB s Top 250 Chart. On one hand, the film Fight Club lacks in its unrealistic plot. On the other hand, it displays exceptional acting and it underlines many problems of society. Roger Ebert describes it as a celebration of violence in which the heroes write themselves a license to drink, smoke, screw and beat one another up. but from my point of view I think that this film has deeper philosophical meaning and messages than just smoking , drinking or beating up each other is.The main character in this film is the good example of existentialism. ... • 34. Letter From A Birmingham Jail Rhetorical Analysis While Martin Luther King Jr. was locked up in a jail he received a letter from eight clergymen. They reached out to King in a letter that is called A Call for Unity. In this letter, they are telling king that people needed to stand up and try to make a change by peaceful protesting to get their point across ( A Call for Unity ). King then replies to their letter with a letter of his own which is known as Letter from a Birmingham Jail. King states that he gets a lot of letters and doesn t reply to them but he thought that the clergymen meant good so he would try to answer their questions to the best of his ability (King). Also in the letter, he focuses on what is going on in Birmingham at the time and tells about himself and how he oversaw a lot of planning comities (King). In the Letter from a Birmingham Jail King uses three main ways to connect with the audience of the letter and those are ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos can be a very effective way of reaching out to the people, because it is showing what kind of person that you are and in a way what is expected out of you. Ethos is sometimes most affective at the begging of the letter because it is laying out the background of the author. King states I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference... (King). When King made this statement towards the beginning of his letter it was showing that he had power over people. Not only was he showing that he had power he was also showing that he was a Christian and worked with others to do something that they believed in. King then goes on to state I cannot sit by idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham . Some people may not understand why I would label this ethos, I label it that way because he is showing that he cares about things that is a distance away from him and he does not just care about what is happening in the city that he is currently living in. By King saying that he is a Christian people would expect a lot out of him, because he a person that people look up to daily. King is also a person that people would go to for advice with him being a president. Pathos in my opinion could be one of the best ways to connect with your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The representation of the people act extended the vote to all males over 21 and to males who were 19 and had been on active service during the war. • 39. What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags around with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In Shrek, Donkey and Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly moments, such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and constellations together. Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house, and he ends up letting him sleep on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George are usually nice to each other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or screws up, George will get frustrated and tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t there with him, then he wouldn t have to take care of him and that he could have an easier life. An example is on page 13, when George says to Lennie, No, look! I was just foolin Lennie, cause I do want you to stay with me! George just got done yelling at Lennie and telling him how he wishes that sometimes he wouldn t be with him so that he could go out and live a normal life and do things with his money, instead of getting in trouble, taking care of Lennie, and having to move all of the time. • 42. The Six Major Barriers In Business Communication Six Major Barriers in Communication In Chapter 2 of our textbook, Business Communication For Success by McLean (2010), six major barriers to effective business communications exist. These are cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Each of these barriers can harm relationships, cause misunderstandings, delay work, and cause unnecessary drama in the work place and in everyday life (Washburn, 2008). This is why discussing them and learning from previous mistakes will help you identify when you are using them and hopefully help prevent their use in the future. These major barriers can be very detrimental when used during communication. The Six Barriers The six major barriers to effective business communication lead to misunderstanding and often times conflict. Being able to identify them allows you to combat the misunderstanding by seeking to overcome the barrier. This could also prevent conflicts from arising and keeping communication lines open and trustworthy by avoiding the use of the six obstacles (McLean, 2010). To avoid these obstacles, it helps to know what each one means and having examples to reference. I hope these examples can be used to learn from and not be held against my character as I regret my part in using these barriers in the past.
