Deep Brain Stimulation surgery experience at Apollo Hospital, New DelhiApollo Hospitals
Functional neurosurgery is concerned with the treatment of conditions where central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) function is abnormal although the structure or anatomy is normal. Eighty-seven Deep Brain Stimulation surgeries were done at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi since year 2000. This included 81 cases of Parkinson’s disease (STN stimulation), 4 cases of Essential Tremors (VIM thalamic nucleus stimulation) and three cases of Dystonia (Globus Pallidus stimulation). All the patients showed good response and one patient developed small thalamic hemorrhage which improved over a period of six weeks.

Intensive care is rightly described as “an art of managing
intense intricacy” and this situation is further complicated in
the care of patients with critical neurological illness owing to limited scope for clinical examination in view of altered
conscious levels.
AN ANALYSIS OF OUTCOMES IN TWIN PREGNANCIES WITH ACTIVE FETAL SURVEILLANCE AN...Apollo Hospitals
The incidence of multiple gestations is increasing with
increasing maternal age and use of assisted reproduction
techniques. Selective fetal reduction of multifetal pregnancies is now widely practiced to reduce the higher order multiples to twins based on evidence from nonrandomised studies which suggests that this will improve the perinatal outcome. The proportion of twin pregnancies with unique fetal and maternal problems is therefore increasing. Optimising maternal, fetal and perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies continues to be a formidable challenge in the present day clinical practice.
MRI Guided Trans Rectal Ultrasound Biopsy: A Molecular Approach to Diagnosing...Apollo Hospitals
The purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy of second-look Trans- rectal Ultrasound guided biopsy by comparing the histopathological results obtained by Trans Rectal Ultra Sound guided extended sextant core biopsy of the prostate done before and after
localization of lesions using MRI & MRS done prior to the procedure.
Over the last two decades, laparoscopic cholecystectomy
has replaced open cholecystectomy as the standard surgical procedure for majority of patients of gall stone disease. Till 1999, laparoscopic Cholecystectomy was being performed using multiple ports usually 3 or 4 ports.
Intensive desire of surgeon to reduce the number of ports led invention of two port cholecystectomy and then finally
single incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) .

Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the Native Kidney of a Renal Transplant Recipient ...Apollo Hospitals
We are reporting a case of squamous cell carcinoma of the native kidney in a renal transplant recipient. A 54-year-old gentleman, a renal transplant recipient for three years, presented with flank pain. On evaluation he was found to have a mass in the upper pole of the left native kidney. Renal angiogram was done which showed a functioning trans-
planted kidney with a large mass arising from the upper pole of the left native kidney. He underwent nephrectomy. The histopathology reported a squamous cell carcinoma. He was given adjuvant radiotherapy to the tumor bed using image guided radiotherapy thereby delivering a differential dose to the high risk areas and preserving the surrounding normal structures. He developed a urethral nodule which was found to be a squamous cell carcinoma. The lesion was excised with clear margins. We present this case because it is rare and to discuss adjuvant management.
The document describes the affinity of different colored components to the stationary and mobile phases in chromatography. Blue has the strongest affinity to the stationary phase and is insoluble in the mobile phase. Black has moderate affinity to both phases. Red has some affinity to the stationary phase and good affinity to the mobile phase. Yellow has low affinity to the stationary phase and varying affinity to the mobile phase.

Meningiomas are tumors which arise from arachnoid cells and can occur both in the brain and spinal cord. Meningiomas can present with psychiatric symptoms (such as depression, anxiety disorders, or personality changes) in the absence of any neurologic signs or symptoms.
Foreign bodies in aerodigestive tract are common entity but in nasopharynx it’s very rare to find an impacted foreign body. The anatomical structure of nasopharynx prevents any lodgement of foreign body. It is capacious and having nasopharyngeal sphincter preventing regurgitation of foreign body from oropharynx. Through nasal cavity foreign body cannot travel to nasopharynx as the former is narrower.

SCAD is a rare presentation of acute coronary syndrome(ACS) and clinically indistinguishable from
plaque rupture. It predominantly affects young women with
no traditional cardiovascular risk factors, especially during
the post-partum and pre-menopausal period [1-3]. The
aetiology of SCAD is multifactorial and complex. Optimal
treatment strategy for SCAD is not clearely defined.
Leiomyoma is a benign tumor that originates from smooth
muscle cell. The most common sites are the uterus, gastrointestinal tract & skin. Leiomyoma is a relatively uncommon smooth muscle tumor rarely found in the head and neck. Enzinger and Weiss (1995), analyzed a total of 7748 leiomyomas, 95% of the tumors occurred in the female genitalia (uterus), 3% in the skin, 0.9% in the gastrointestinal tract and the remainder at various sites including skull base.

Endometriosis is conventionally defined as the presence of
tissue lesions or nodules that are histologically similar to
the endometrium, but are present at sites outside the uterus. It is a chronic, often recurring disease of complex and unclear aetiology. Endometriosis is a highly variable condition in terms of age and mode of presentation, range of symptoms, anatomical sites, response to treatment and likelihood of recurrence.

The new 7th edition of the TNM classification system features a number of revisions, including subdivision of tumor categories on the basis of size, differentiation between local intra thoracic and distant metastatic disease, recategorization of malignant pleural or pericardial disease etc, on the basis of evidence from a significantly larger worldwide data base that has been subjected to extensive validation which attempts to better correlate disease with prognostic value and treatment strategy.
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is the major cause of heavy menstrual bleeding and impacts on women’s health both medically and socially. First-line therapy has traditionally been medical therapy but this is frequently ineffective. On the other hand, hysterectomy is obviously 100% effective in stopping bleeding but is more costly and can cause severe complications and affect the quality of life. Endometrial ablation is less invasive and preserves the uterus and has shown to improve the quality of life indices.
Stroke in people under 45 years of age is less frequent than in older populations but has a major impact on the individual and society. In this article we provide an overview of the epidemiology and etiology of young stroke.

Ce document est une ressource qui met en évidence deux obstacles qui empêchent les jeunes de mener une vie épanouie : l'inaction et le pessimisme.
1) Découvrez comment l'inaction, c'est-à-dire le fait de ne pas agir ou d'agir alors qu'on le devrait ou qu'on est censé le faire, est un obstacle à une vie épanouie ;
> Comment l'inaction affecte-t-elle l'avenir du jeune ? Que devraient plutôt faire les jeunes pour se racheter et récupérer ce qui leur appartient ? A découvrir dans le document ;
