My appointment as a professor involves research and teaching and extension. Thus, I have a reason to engage in research dissemination and translation;Although extension is only 10% of my expected output
To achieve my extension requirements, I build this into my research and teaching: eg research dissemination opportunities and research participation involving dissemination
Scaling Up Nutrition MSP; Food Security TAG for AIDS commission, etc
This provides opportunities for providing access to evidence as well as incorporating evidence into decisions
I have been involved in media engagement opportunities;
Be aware of the key national and stakeholder priorities; creating opportunities for prioritizing research and disseminating research evidence
Relationship building @ all stages levels with decision makers
Building and maintaining personal trust and nurturing but is time consuming.
Break down mistrust
capacity and leadership to translate and communicate knowledge and work into usable form for different stakeholders.
Fostering cross-talk between research and decision-making sectors.
Creating opportunity for decision makers to demand evidence and be comfortable with evidence.
Packaging of evidence in consumable fashion is important
Increased recognition of the benefit of evidence, esp where there are often inadequate resources
