The document discusses symmetric key cryptography. It begins with an introduction to cryptography and encryption techniques like substitution ciphers. It then covers symmetric encryption in more detail, explaining block ciphers like DES and AES, as well as modes of operation like ECB, CBC, and OFB. It provides an example Java implementation of AES encryption and decryption. It also briefly covers stream ciphers like RC4 and the concept of steganography.
The document summarizes Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue". It describes how Auguste Dupin uses his skills of analysis and deduction to solve a gruesome murder that left other investigators baffled. Dupin is able to put together the clues and discover that an orangutan, and not the accused man, was actually the guilty party. The narrator recounts with astonishment Dupin's unique mental abilities and his successful unraveling of the mysterious crime.
The Black Death plague arrived in Europe in 1347 from Central Asia, carried by fleas on black rats. Over the next three years, it killed almost half of Europe's population. The plague spread quickly through towns and villages across England between 1348-1349 due to filthy living conditions that supported rat populations. Medieval people did not understand germ theory and employed ineffective cures like applying frogs to boils caused by plague. By 1350, approximately 2.5 million people in Britain had died from the pandemic.
This document provides a summary of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen's experiences during World War I that influenced their poetry. Both men volunteered for the war due to propaganda but became disillusioned after witnessing the horrors of trench warfare. Sassoon came from a wealthy family but found the war nothing like the glory depicted. Owen was from a humble background and also became shocked by the human losses and suffering of soldiers. Both poets were treated for shell shock and used their experiences to write realistic poems that condemned the war and portrayed the miserable conditions faced by soldiers. Sassoon's poems expressed anger at those who caused or prolonged the war without regard for soldiers. He sought to convey the true psychological experiences of being in
Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness follows Charlie Marlow's journey into the Congo Free State in Africa in the late 19th century. Marlow tells of his experience working for an ivory trading company and his encounter with the mysterious Kurtz. The novella explores themes of colonialism, racism, and the thin line between civilization and savagery. It depicts the horrific realities of Leopold II's brutal regime in the Congo through the physical and moral corruption witnessed by Marlow. The river Congo represents the journey into the darkness at the heart of man and society that Marlow discovers.

The document provides background information on Anne Frank and her family who went into hiding from the Nazis during World War II. It describes how Anne was born in Germany but her family fled to Amsterdam as Hitler rose to power and persecuted Jewish people. In 1942, after Margot Frank received a notice to report to the SS, the Frank family went into hiding with another family in a secret annex behind Otto Frank's business. The document outlines the tensions that arose from living in close quarters in the annex for over two years, until the group was eventually betrayed and arrested in 1944.

4. Comment Tristan et Iseut
tombent-ils amoureux ?
Ils tombent amoureux à
cause du philtre magique.
5. Avec quoi Tristan se blesse-t-il ? Avec un pieu empoisonné.
