5. Geography
The mountains and hills are mainly found in
the western part of the island and slope
gently to the east, with the elevations
generally rising northwards.
There are tides off the coast of Great
Britain, up to 15 m in the Severn estuary,
which is the second highest in the world
(after Fundy Bay). The existence of tides
causes rivers to exit through estuaries.

politics
Great Britain is a parliamentary monarchy with a
government accountable to parliament. The state
capital is London. The current British monarch is
Queen Elizabeth II, who ascended the throne in
1952 and was crowned in 1953.
Great Britain is a very centralized country with
the Parliament of Westminster dealing with most
political affairs. In recent years, however, each of
the countries that make up the UK, except
England, has had its own government bodies to
deal with local matters.

At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it occupied a large part of the planet and was
the largest country in the world. It ruled Australia and Oceania, much of Africa and Central
America. British India was also under her rule. After WW2 Uk started to decolonize it's
biggest territories such us Canada, India, Sudan and Australia.

Scotland is a part of UK. It is loccated in north parts of Britain. It's capital is Edinburgh, but
the largest city in this country is Glasgow. In 2019 it's population was about 5.5 million
people.
16. Famous symbols of Scotland
You may recognize Scotland for it's famous symbols such as Kilts, Bagpipes and
Scotish whiskey. Kilt is a type of knee-lenght plaid men's dress. Bagpipes are a woodwind
instrument using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag.
Scotish whiskey is a type alcohol named "Whiskey" and it is produced only in Scotland.

about Loch Ness lake. It is very
famous place in Scottish culture.
