12. Treatment
Diarrhea without dehydration :
1-fluid therapy to avoid dehydration
2-plenty of fluid to avoid malnutrition
Diarrhea with dehydration :
1- fluid therapy (ORS)
2- Antibiotics:
Bloody diarrhea(probably shigella):5 days course Of
trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole (10/50 mg/kg)
others : ampicillin , cefotriaxone, ciprofloxacin
Suspected cholera:5 days course of
trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole , or
Erythromycin , or
Tetracyclin (50 mg/kg/day) children >9 years

13. 3:Anti-parasitic:
Entameoba histolytica : Metronidazole 40 mg/kg in 3 doses for 10 days oral
Giardia lambia : metronidazole 30 mg/kg for 7 days or furazolidone 25 mg/kg for 5
days
4- Antimicrobial agent : Nitazoxnide
Symptomatic:
Anti emetic
Treatment of complication
Prevention :
1- promote breast feeding
2- proper weaning practice
3-measles vaccine
4-hygienic measures
