  11. Why do we want to tell you about our experiences ESTABLISHING TRUST IN MOODLE ? TRUST DRIVES successful cooperative learning interaction in moodle The process of establishing fast trust in virtual environments like moodle is new and we have discovered new things with our learning communities TRUST in moodle is an exciting challenge and we are convinced of the importance and enthusiastic about sharing with you – that is, afterall, what moodle is all about We hope to share insight that you can implement right away

So what are we going to be telling you about: 1. we’ll give you some opportunities to feel trust situations 2. we’ll tell you a little about trust and give some EXAMPLES from experience as to how it is related to moodle features 3. We will give you a chance to construct some of your own best practice for achieving TRUST .
  13. How we are going to do this? We will be telling you the WHAT – so, giving input through examples, asking you questions and setting up experiences over the next 90 minutes You will interact with each other and do several guided activities connected with trust and cooperation We will attempt to have you construct good practice in moodle by asking you the right questions Of course the most important question for all of you is probably …
  14. W hat's i n i t f or y ou? You will get an overview of the important role trust plays in effective moodle practice Some ideas of trust in connection with moodle features 3. Some concrete guidelines which will help you manage trust in your virtual learning teams

  17. By this time some differentiation was starting, personalities were becoming apparent. People felt like they were beginning to know each other The partner work online during the week in combination with the entire group work in the sessions Led to a rapid team consolidation process because they didn’t feel alone- they always had their partner to rely on
  18. Virtual intercultural teamwork is much more than an internet relationship I am not gullible but I sincerely believe that real trust can be established with people you don’t know I have experienced this many many times
  19. Best way to destroy a team is to concentrate exclusively on tasks and deadlines 1. Trust is the driver needs to be understood as such by everybody Trust and relationships determine teamwork effectiveness
  20. The best way to de-motivate a team is to think that trust will just happen if the team is “right” 2. Consciously build trust Talk about trust with your team; make others more aware Plan for it and build it in steps consciously then monitor that it is maintained Defend trust openly
  21. Untruths are the quickest way to demolish team trust 3. Trust through authenticity Be personally authentic and speak with good purpose about people at all times Admit your mistakes quickly; explain any inconsistency
  22. Not finding time to care about people will undermine all your hard work 4. Respect and really care for your team Care deeply for each team member and demonstrate that you do through actions Involve them; give them opportunities to practice their skills actively Provide guided chances for them to go beyond their comfort zones
  23. Leaving the team on automatic will make it wither and die 5. Communicate more to increase presence Be available and establish clear means of contact; increase your virtual presence Over communicate with everyone through a variety channels: use text, voice and images
  24. Ignore them and they will go away 6. Observe and give trust IF YOU WANT TO GET IT Listen more than you speak, pay attention Show that you value peer input and feedback
  25. 7. Keep your word Keep agreements and expect agreements to be kept Do what you say Deliver on time with no excuses
  26. 8. Trust is enjoyable so enjoy it! Enjoy the trust you share with team and tell team members you do Celebrate the experience consciously Examples of trust-building behaviour Showing trust: • Exert a positive influence on trust-building by showing trust. If you mistrust your colleagues, you will create a spiral of mistrust that can remain until the end of the cooperation if it is not broken by a specific incidence of trust. • Let your colleagues make use of your knowledge and expertise. Gaining trust: • Make yourself available to your colleagues to show that you are able and willing. • Answer quickly and thoughtfully thus demonstrating your commitment and maintaining your profile. • Communicate openly and honestly. • Show you are trustworthy by keeping promises. • Act in a competent and consistent manner so that your colleagues know where you stand. • Be open and respectful by paying attention and listening to your colleagues. • Value your colleagues’ opinions and be flexible to show you are open to change. • Be fair in dealing with conflict constructively and sensitively and do not speak behind other people’s backs. • Support your colleagues and
