guts to make the same mistake as an adult and break the law then they should have the responsibility
to face what they did. Juveniles should be tried as adults, based on the crime that is committed. If the
crime is severe as murder or rape, then yes, an adult charge should be served. They should be
charged as juveniles and seek for help.
Children as young as 11 are being sent to adult prisons 96% of them live in an abusive home, are
being abused or live in a violent neighborhood. These young offenders know right from wrong but
they are unable to process the long term effects of their decisions. Most teens live in the now and
aren't thinking of tomorrow or 5 years from now. The people should be helping these kids not
locking them up. That child would have to deal with being sexual harassment every day because of
his or hers size or age. They shouldn't spend their whole life getting raped in a prison

In 2007, there were more than 200,000 minors/juveniles that were tried as adults (McCrea). This
represents the current problem within the juvenile justice system well. This represents the problem
because it shows how our system allows for hundreds of thousands of juveniles to be tried as adults.
This is why I believe that juveniles should not be tried as adults. For one, the juveniles are not fully
understanding of the consequences that are possible if they break the laws that they do (Redding).
Also, while they are able to be tried as an adult in our current juvenile justice system, they are not
allowed the rights that come with being an adult (McCrea). Lastly, juveniles are going through

They could argue that when a juvenile commits a crime, the victim won't be compensated for the
act if the juvenile is not put in jail. Also, according to statistics taken by the government, the
amount of crimes committed by people at the age of 12 has doubles while the amount of crimes
committed by the ages of 13 to 14 have tripled since 1965 (Collier) . They could argue that this is
a problem as crime rates have increased, yet if they cannot be tried as adults, what will stop them
in the future. However, I disagree as in some states there are already laws to prevent this. Such as
in Georgia there are the seven deadly sins law were if you commit certain crimes, you are tried as
an adults and put in adult jails for at least a minimum sentence (Estudillo). While I don't completely
agree with this as juveniles have not completely developed, it does show a clear counter to what
some people would say about juveniles being let off without getting in trouble for violent
