1. P.D.H.P.E Rationale
P.D.H.P.E stands for Personal Development, Health and Physical
Education. Sustaining a healthy lifestyle is an essential characteristic
in everyone's life and learning how to do so comes from this unit.
P.D.H.P.E is a unit not only in primary schools but in all schools and it
enables us to be able to live a healthy lifestyle.

2. • The aim of this syllabus is to give each student the knowledge and understanding, skills and values that lead
to fulfilling a healthy lifestyle.
• P.D.H.P.E teaches these students skills that they will use in everyday life. There are 5 skills that these
students will be taught and these skills will then be put into practice. These skills include
Communicating, Decision Making, Interacting, Moving and Problem Solving.
3. • Enables students to know the components of an active lifestyle.
• Students learn about preventative measures, and decision making.
• Encouraging healthy living and healthy lifestyles.
• Health and movement is utilised when students have self
confidence.
• The 5 skills these students will learn enables improved
performance and enhanced self-esteem.
• These factors best prepares students to work towards better health
for themselves.
4. • Students understanding the importance of regular physical
activity for their health and fitness.
• Mastering skills for sports such as throwing, catching, running
and jumping to enable themselves better during
play, dance, gymnastics, games, sports, aquatics and other
recreational activities.
• Students learn to understand ways to be active.
5. Nutrition:
• Students learn about eating habits.
• Learning about special needs of eating habits e.g.
diabetes
• Students also learn about fast food in comparison to
healthy foods.
• Students also learn about the digestive system.
Drug Use:
• Students learn about drugs and
identifying them.
• Drugs used in everyday lives.
• Tobacco
• Alcohol
• Media and drugs
Preventative measures:
• Sun protection
• Disease prevention
• Personal hygiene
• Communication diseases
