the environment
Municipality of Aytos

3. General features of the
municipality
• Location: East Balkans and a
valley of the river Aytoska
• Relief: mostly flat country
• Climate: continental
• Soils: black earth

5. Economic importance of
the municipality
• Important transport center:
– Connects Northern and South
Bulgaria
– Proximity to Burgas port and airport
• Contribution to the agriculture:
– Cereals
– Fruit trees
– Tobacco, sunflower
• There are some mineral water springs
with healing effects.

6. Development of the
tourism
Main potential:
 Wooded country and bio-diversity
 Mineral water springs
 Rich folk traditions
The Park “ Slaveeva river” and
ethnographic site “Genger” are
attractive site for the tourists.

7. State of the environment pollution
in the Municipality of Aytos
• Air
 The level of pollution depends on the
quantity of emitted pollutants and their
diffusion in the atmosphere.
The main pollutants are:
 Automobile transport
 Small industrial enterprises
 Heating of houses (40% are heated
with coal, 55 % with wood)
• Water
The chemical qualities of river water
are good

• Scraps of food
• Waste products from building
construction – are not usually
recycled
• Industrial waste – mostly
recycled

9. Measures against the
environmental pollution
• Improving the organization of waste
separate collection, transport and
recycling
• Increasing the quantities of recycled
waste
• Partnership between the local
authorities and social organizations
• Applying for European funding
needed for water waste stations and
recycling waste stations

• Study of protected plants and birds
species in the Municipality
• Discovery of the polluted areas
• Discovery of the polluted areas along
“Aytos river” and cleaning them
• Participation in the campaign “Let’s clean
Bulgaria for a day” – 2011
• Meeting with the representative of a local
authority for discussing environmental
problems
• Trees and flowers planting activities in the
park “Slaveeva river” and the school yard

we have done a study of protected plants
and endangered species

for discussing and solving environmental
problems
