2. What do you think of world to be @ 2050??
As part of this presentation I am going to highlight few of the awesome things @2050
Few of the challenges that world might face @ 2050
Disclaimer: Content provided in this presentation is based on the case studies available in the different public forums(links provided in
reference slide). These are not my personal views.
3. India to emerge as third largest economy based on GDP
China to emerge as largest economy followed by US, India, Brazil
BRIC countries to grow faster than current advanced economies(US, Japan, Germany, UK)
Russia to overtake Germany to become largest European economy
Emerging economies like Mexico, Indonesia could be larger than UK and France
China, India, Brazil are not just low cost productions, but also increasingly large customer
markets
India, Indonesia and Malaysia have strong growth potential in Asia
US to retain top spot on average income levels, while China, India ,Brazil will remain in the
bottom among top 10 nations.
4. Child mortality rates will be vastly lower, Vaccines and cure for
many diseases
World population would be around 9 Billion
Factors behind child mortality decline
includes prevention of mother-to-child
transmission of HIV, immunization against
diseases, insecticide-treated nets to control
diseases like malaria, and micronutrients for
children to prevent life-threatening
deficiencies
Vaccine to stop spread of HIV, malaria, and
few types of cancer
5. More literacy and gender equity will improve global economy
and society
Global literacy rate would come down from 23.6% to 12% which would cost only 3.8% of GDP
In 1900, lower pay for women and their exclusion from the work sector led to losses equaling
17% of global GDP, but this is going to come down to 4%
Rising participation of women in workforce to change dynamics at home
In 2050, men and women in much of the developed world will do an equal share of childcare
and housework
6. Renewable, clean energy to power 95%
If world invests on clean energy which wont cost more than 2% GDP, By 2050, 95% energy is
generated from renewable energy eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by 80%
Solar energy could provide half of world electricity whereas wind energy can contribute to 25%
of the world electricity by 2050
Other crucial source of renewable energy include ocean power that harness energy from waves
and tides, biomass, geo thermal energy derived from earth’s crust and hydro power
7. Technology Advancements
By 2050 more than 8 billion people will go online(mostly on mobiles) which is 97.5% of the
population
New translation tools( can be googles or phone app) will allow people who speak different
languages communicate instantly
Cars would be vastly safer, smarter.by 2035 driverless cars will operate entirely with out human
intervention.
Annual production of electric cars will reach 100 million by 2050 which would reduce CO2
emissions from transportation by 30% in addition to reducing significant oil consumption
8. Artificial Intelligence will be advanced
Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute predicts that by 2050 freely moving robots that
outperform humans both physically and intellectually will run entire businesses by themselves
It could also lead to new breakthroughs, as "mass-produced, fully educated robot scientists
working diligently, cheaply, rapidly and increasingly effective
Human-like robots with their own emotions and the capability to hold intelligent conversations
and, yes, relationships with people
9. Artificial body parts would replace organ shortages
Artificial and lab-grown organs(kidney, skin etc.) will create a more permanent solution for
transplant patients, who won't have to wait for another person to die before getting a life-
sustaining organ
The technology for lab-grown organs can also be combined with 3D printing of a person's own
stem cells to make organ rejection a thing of the past
10. Worrying factors in 2050 due to climate change
Addressing climate change would cost global economy around $ 700 billion annually by 2030
Sea level rise created by a temperature increase of 3 degree would force more than 600 million
people to find new homes
Additional 8% of world population will experience water scarcity
100% of reefs may be at risk of extinction by 2050 due to climate change
By 2050, crop yields in Asia are expected to fall by 50% for wheat 17% for rice compared to
2000 levels due to floods, forest fires and tropical cyclones.
Increasing droughts will make the driest regions even drier
