This article aims to show how the government of Brazil can make sustainable and expand and modernize the country's transport sector, which is composed of highway, rail, waterway and air transport of cargo and people and pipeline for the transport of products ( oil, natural gas, ores, etc.). Urban transport was not considered in this article because it will be dealt with in the next article when the sustainability of cities will be addressed. Economically, in Brazil, the waterway modal is the most economical followed by the waterway, with both widely supplanting the road modal considering the cost per tonne.Km of transported cargo. This means that, from an economic point of view, the government of Brazil should promote the expansion of waterways and sea and river ports and railways and railway stations and stop investing in the expansion of highways. It has also been demonstrated that railways and waterways, in order, emit less greenhouse gases per cargo transported than highways. This means that from the point of view of environmental sustainability, Brazil should prioritize, in order, the use of trains with railways and ships with waterways in cargo transport, rather than trucks and buses with highways. This means that the government of Brazil should promote the expansion of railways and railway stations, waterways and ports and stop investing in the expansion of highways. In addition, the Brazilian government needs to eliminate all existing weaknesses in the current transport sector, as well as expand and modernize Brazil's transport sector. Strategies to be adopted to eliminate the weaknesses of the transport sector in Brazil and for its expansion and modernization are presented in the 24 pages of this article.
