Implications of The Two Roles
Having two roles naturally creates divisions, conflict,
competition…
And Fears…
PM Fear about BA BA Fear about PM
• BA collecting requirements • PM is unwilling to fully
without effective coordination, investigate and analyse
facilitation, or realistic deadline stakeholder needs
• BA will create unrealistic • PM doesn’t understand the
expectations with stakeholders complexity of defining,
• PM left out of the loop on critical analysing, and managing
meetings and conversation with requirements
sponsors and stakeholders • PM sees the BA as an asistant
• BA don’t have functional or • PM moves after the end of the
technical knowledge to articulate project, but BA stays and lives
requirements correctly with the consequences

PMBok main focus is on project parameters
BABok main focus is on solution parameters
PMBok is not explicit about eliciting, analysing and
documentating requirements
BABok is not explicit about all project management
activities
The PMBok and the BABok together are excellent
