The power of metadata has been emphasized over and over again. Mostly in combination with the increased manageability and findability of your (enterprise) content. Whilst some metadata is auto-generated and managed by SharePoint, some isn't.
With the Location-based Auto-tagging Extension for SharePoint 2010 you can now make SharePoint sites inherit Managed Tags and Metadata from its parents and finally from a list that is centrally managed by you.
