This document discusses ways for teachers to connect students' learning to their lives and aspirations. It recommends that teachers acknowledge students' cultural contexts and allow learning to be personalized. Teachers should support students to explore their interests and strengths. Learning activities should demonstrate relevance beyond the classroom and connect to issues of personal or social significance. Teachers are also encouraged to use technologies and involve families to make learning more meaningful for students.
This document discusses principles of game design that could be applied to classroom instruction to increase student engagement. It suggests considering cognitive interactivity through interactive resources that require students to apply knowledge, explicit interactivity by giving assignments with feedback, and beyond the object interactivity by connecting learning to real-world events and communities of interest. Some examples are provided for each principle. The document aims to help educators design lessons that better attract and engage students like successful games.

This document discusses applying principles of game theory to classroom learning. It identifies four principles: 1) Interaction - engaging students more through absorbing content instead of separate teacher/student agendas. 2) Cognitive interactivity - providing resources like web quests that encourage clicking and turning pages. 3) Explicit interactivity - activities requiring student input and creation, like presenting assignments. 4) Beyond the object interactivity - getting students engaged with subject communities through events and competitions to foster identification with the topic. The document argues these principles can make learning more effective by applying what attracts students to games.

Some key benefits mentioned include improved vocabulary, logical thinking skills, an understanding of linguistic processes, appreciation of other cultures, and strong preparation for law school, medicine and other fields due to Latin's influence on terminology. Latin is also said to be easier for English speakers to learn than other languages due to similarities between the Latin and English alphabets and because many English words are derived from Latin.
