Students participated in an experiment inspired by the fable of the blind men and the elephant. Volunteers blindfolded students and had them touch different parts of an object, with each group only feeling one part. After discussing what they felt, the groups realized they were describing different parts of a tiger. Like in the fable, each blind man felt a different part of the elephant and had a different perception. The story was then read, making the connection that having an incomplete picture can lead to misunderstanding. The purpose of the project was to explore how experiences can provide different perspectives.
13. This is what had happened in the
story with the six blind men and
another wild creature…
14. Amelia reads the story …
• Six blind men were asked to determine what an elephant
looked like by feeling different parts of the elephant's
body. The blind man who feels a leg says the elephant is
like a pillar; the one who feels the tail says the elephant
is like a rope; the one who feels the trunk says the
elephant is like a tree branch; the one who feels the ear
says the elephant is like a hand fan; the one who feels
the belly says the elephant is like a wall; and the one
who feels the tusk says the elephant is like a solid pipe.
• A king explains to them:
• All of you are right. The reason every one of you is telling
it differently is because each one of you touched the
different part of the elephant. So, actually the elephant
has all the features you mentioned.
15. She then introduces the matter of
prospect…and invites students and
teachers to share experiences and
discuss…

When the project ends the
students are told that this was a
project, which was inspired by the
work of our friends in France, took
place in Greece and was to be
presented to all of you in Turkey!
Thank you !!! Thank you !!!
