MULTISTAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION –
COMMUNITY BUSINESS MODEL DEVELOPMENT
• Objectives of the collaboration is to develop business model
that balance community livelihood and forest protection, as
well as the indicators for success.
• In the first stage, CIFOR and ICRAF has identified and
determined 20 village typologies as well as stages to
develop business models. This is done for villages located on
peat as well as those on mineral soil.
• YKAN is also engaged with the purpose of providing
different approach to the business model development.
• CIFOR ICRAF YKAN have also developed KPIs for evaluating
the business model performance.
• Piloting program is on-going in 6 villages in Riau, South
Sumatra and West Kalimantan.

COLLABORATION WITH IDH AND
G-CINDE ON COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
• Collaboration between APP and G-Cinde (Gerakan Cinta
Desa) on community-based forest restoration and
protection in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra.
• This collaboration is under the bigger program umbrella
funded by IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative on the same
topic.
• As the first step, the project focus to develop community
nursery in Muara Merang village in MUBA. This includes
conducting FGDs, establishing the local cooperatives,
training the local community of nursery practices.
• The seedlings from this community nurseries will be used
for peat rehabilitation project

CHALLENGES
• Sustainability impact of the program couldn’t
be measured in early stage even though the
program has been implemented for 5 years.
• Shifting community mindset to non timber
forest product. Instead of relying on land
expansion, community needs to focus on
increasing land productivity.
• Peatland management is high cost,
particularly the equipment and infrastructure
for water management. It will impact to cost
and access to market.
• Acceleration of the program really depends
on community capacity, including managing
the organization/farmer groups.

  • 3. 3 MULTISTAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION – COMMUNITY BUSINESS MODEL DEVELOPMENT • Objectives of the collaboration is to develop business model that balance community livelihood and forest protection, as well as the indicators for success. • In the first stage, CIFOR and ICRAF has identified and determined 20 village typologies as well as stages to develop business models. This is done for villages located on peat as well as those on mineral soil. • YKAN is also engaged with the purpose of providing different approach to the business model development. • CIFOR ICRAF YKAN have also developed KPIs for evaluating the business model performance. • Piloting program is on-going in 6 villages in Riau, South Sumatra and West Kalimantan.
  • 4. 4 COLLABORATION WITH IDH AND G-CINDE ON COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT • Collaboration between APP and G-Cinde (Gerakan Cinta Desa) on community-based forest restoration and protection in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra. • This collaboration is under the bigger program umbrella funded by IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative on the same topic. • As the first step, the project focus to develop community nursery in Muara Merang village in MUBA. This includes conducting FGDs, establishing the local cooperatives, training the local community of nursery practices. • The seedlings from this community nurseries will be used for peat rehabilitation project

CHALLENGES • Sustainability impact of the program couldn’t be measured in early stage even though the program has been implemented for 5 years. • Shifting community mindset to non timber forest product. Instead of relying on land expansion, community needs to focus on increasing land productivity. • Peatland management is high cost, particularly the equipment and infrastructure for water management. It will impact to cost and access to market. • Acceleration of the program really depends on community capacity, including managing the organization/farmer groups.
