5. 1-1 Définition:
Un balcon est un type de plateforme qui se dégage d'un
mur et forme ainsi une « pièce en hauteur », qui est la
signification du mot issu du persan bal-khané. Le plus
souvent, il se trouve à l'extérieur du bâtiment, mais peut
aussi être à l'intérieur, comme une galerie dans une
salle de spectacle.

Il apparaît dans la maison comme
des lignes de fuites, il est long et
fait le tour de la maison.

Il est perçu comme étant ornemental et
sert aux décorations et au jardinage.

Il se situe au niveau du sol et on le retrouve
soit à l’avant de la maison, soit à l’arrière. Il
est souvent fait en bois et recouvert d’un toit.

Les balcons étaient anciennement constitués de dalles de pierres taillées
De nos jours, il est construit en béton armé, et possède une armature située dans sa partie supérieure
posées sur les voussoirs d'une voûte

sur des colonnes ou des piliers suspendu par des tirants au toit, grâce aux charpentes.
