Objective: Outer Islands communities are able to successfully plan and
implement investment that result in better nutrition and access to

Effective: 2016-2021, Pilots Islands: Maiana, Abemama, Nonouti, South

Title: Enhancing national food security in the context of global Climate
Change
Objectives: To build the adaptive capacities of vulnerable Kiribati
communities to ensure food security under conditions of climate change
2 major outcomes:
1) Institutional capacity developed to reduce vulnerability to climate
change induced food shortages
2) Implementation of community adaptation measures to increase food
security
16. • ACIAR-Soil Health Project
Effective: 2015-2019 Pilot islands: Same as KOIWFP
Aim:
To support development of sustainable soil health technologies for atolls in
order to improve production of staple root crops and nutritious food crops
Donor: ACIAR
3 main objectives
1. Increase the sustainability and productivity of starchy staple food
production systems
2. To increase household and community production and consumption of
local nutritious foods
3. Identify and develop opportunities for inter-islands trade in high value
crops and products

Effective: 2004-ongoing to date, Pilots Islands: South Tarawa,
Butaritari, Abaiang, Abemama
Donor: ROC (Taiwan)
Title of Project currently implemented:
1) Nutrition enhancement Project (Horticulture & Nutrition)
2) Piggery Project
Aim: To establish production systems in Kiribati
Objective: To produce fruit and vegetables for better nutrition to
hospital and schools and breeders for Outer Islands
