Despite the availability of increasingly more sophisticated aids, we hope for even better artificial limbs and curative treatment for people with disabilities. In the First World, these have developed from simple supports to high-tech products. However, rising costs have triggered a discussion about financing. In areas stricken by poverty and crisis, such devices are often rudimentary to this day. What happens if our world breaks down or exhausts itself, if raw materials become scarce? Will such complex apparatuses still be possible then? Conversely, couldn't disable people in the Global South also hope for better equipment thanks to new materials and electronics, or are financial considerations standing in the way? Published in Swissfuture 03/19
Lessons in technology and change management, as well as real sustainable development to be drawn from the Solar Impulse venture.

The PhD Thesis about the European Airbus Programme shows that it is not part of the European integration process but a reply by independent manufacturers to the threat of more potent U.S. competitors. The gradual integration of these individually weak manufacturers and the skillful strategy of technological leaps enabled by the cooperation allowed them to outpace the U.S. competition and to become the leader in technology in the 1980s and on the market after the year 2000.

China - Which Energy in the Future?
For the last 20 years China has grown strongly and permanently. The country enjoys more or less a monopoly on rare earths. Few are aware that postfossil energies and cleantech rely on these natural resources. How will China's monopoly of supply influence the future of these "greener" technologies?

AI in the financial sector: Artificial intelligence or natural reason?
Those born earlier lived through the third industrial revolution. Their salaries were transmitted one at a piece. Nowadays, we witness Industry 4.0. For some, the financial sector is the worst thing that could have happened, for some it is a sector full of promises for the real economy. Both schools of thinking recognize the need for new technology and place their hope in artificial intelligence. What does this mean?

Not "more efficient cars" - but more thought about their use is needed.
The car is a part of all our lives, at least in the first world. Early childhood memories of excursions, traffic jams and breakdowns have given way to thoughts about independence versus constraints.Social revolutions and ecological realizations present the opportunity to question the necessity of these four wheels.
