Noise-sensitive areas
38. New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
Air Quality Management
• No expected impact on sensitive areas
• Monitoring, mainly for demolition activities
• Dust blanketing using water cannons
• Use of dust control liquid.
38
39. New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
Light Management
39
• Problem essentially limited to site trailers and parking on
western jetty: largest worksite facilities for the project are
near the Pointe-Nord on Nun’s Island
• Two areas impacted:
Evolo 2: adjustments made
René Lévesque Blvd. (toward Pointe-Nord): new challenge
• Human health and safety imperative and operational
security.
40. New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
Vibration Management
40
• Continuous seismographic monitoring: an alert is received if the
25mm/s criterion is exceeded; adjustments are then made to work
methods in order to remain within the criterion.
• The 25 mm/s criterion is based on a low probability of cosmetic
damage (e.g., cracks in gypsum) and is recognized by the MTQ for
residential buildings.
• Protective cushions are used to dampen debris impact shocks during
demolition.
• Visual assessment prior to construction and re-assessment afterwards.
42. New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
Action follow up
42
SSL
• West jetty site luminosity: adjustments made.
• Possibility of having a noise abatement wall between Sud-Ouest and the railroad: acoustic
analysis is ongoing.
• Removal of buildings from May St. and the effect on neighbourhood tranquility, plus
concerns expressed with regard to bringing the A15 closer to the Poudrière sector:
Temporary noise abatement walls will be installed between LaSalle and Wellington
Permanent noise abatement walls to be erected later.
INFC
• Environmental compensation for the project as a whole (i.e. GGs: discussions ongoing
• Possibility of a 4th lane on the Nun’s Island Bridge linking Nun’s Island to Verdun:
discussions ongoing.
• Conversion of temporary Nun’s Island Bridge into park: under review.
Ville de Montréal
• Access to Nun’s Island channel for Pointe-Saint-Charles: under review.
44. New Champlain Bridge Corridor Project
• Public information meeting: May 11 on Nun’s Island.
• Good Neighbourly Relations Committee: June 8 (TBC) in Verdun
Theme 1: Major traffic hindrances in 2016
Theme 2: Unban integration progress.
• Good Neighbourly Relations Committee: Sept. 14 (TBC) in Sud-Ouest
Theme: Your Suggestions.
