3. ROLE OF THE RENTALSMAN
 3 Types of Relationships between Landlords & Tenants:
Business / Contractual / Law
 Office of the Rentalsman
• Enforce the Law
• Investigate Complaints
• Mediation Services
• Educate and Inform Tenants and Landlords
• Administer the Security Deposit Trust Fund
• Adjudicate matters that cannot be resolved by mediation

4. LANDLORD’S OBLIGATIONS
 To deliver and maintain the
premises and any chattels
clean, in a good state of repair,
and fit for habitation;
 To comply with all health,
safety, housing and building
standards and any other legal
requirement respecting the
premises ;
 To keep all common areas in a
clean and safe condition.

5. TENANT’S OBLIGATIONS
 Pay Rent
 To maintain ordinary cleanliness of
premises and any chattels provided
 To repair within a reasonable time any
willful or negligent damage to the
premises or any chattel supplied by the
landlord
 To conduct himself/herself and require
his/her guests to conduct themselves in
a manner that will not cause a
disturbance or nuisance
