A tribe is a collection of squads focusing on the same business area. The tribe is
managed by the Tribe Lead, who is responsible for providing the right environment for
all squads to operate autonomously within the tribe.
Tribe
A squad is a cross-functional team with a dedicated mission. The squad has all the skills and tools
needed to design, develop, test and release to production, being an autonomous team who are
experts in their domain. The squad works together with a Product Manager and the Tribe Lead to
define their roadmap. The daily execution, follow-up and planning is operated by the Squad Master.
Squad
A chapter is a group of team members, in a tribe, working within a domain (front
development, backend development, data science, …). Chapters are created for cross-
pollination across squads, tribe recruitment, knowledge sharing and to discuss new ideas.
Each chapter has a Chapter Lead.

Tribe Lead
The Tribe Lead is accountable for the tribe’s work and provides the
environment and tools to the tribe to succeed with its mission.
The tribe lead provides the strategic vision and creates the tribe ’s
roadmap in collaboration with all tribe members.

Product Manager
Product Managers work with the Squads and the Tribe Leads to
build the roadmap, define epics/stories, KPIs for success and
acceptance criteria.
The Product Manager performs market assessments to
understand trends and to define what we need to stay on top of
competition.Chapter Lead & members
Chapter Leads are line manager for their chapter members. They
are responsible for recruitment, knowledge sharing, good practices
and people development within their chapter. They remain part of a
squad and still do day-to-day work.
The role of Chapter Lead is always an addition to another role (Ex:
Developer + Chapter Lead, Architect + Chapter Lead, Tribe Lead +
Chapter Lead)
Squad Master
The Squad Master runs the squad’s daily operations. He/she is
responsible for agile routines, estimation, grooming, sprint
planning and daily stand-ups.
The Squad Master is the squad’s main point of contact and
synchronizes with other squads on dependencies, risks and
issues (bugs).
