Thank you, Kerem. I want to take a few moments to thank you all for coming to our event, I hope you found the sessions, breakouts, and discussions to be interesting and enlightening as you move forward on your own path with Cloud. I'd like to close by recapping a few key points. Cloud is clearly enabling companies to reinvent the way they do business. From an IT perspective, cloud delivers services faster b/c of automation and standardization, enables integration across clouds with pre-built templates, and increases efficiencies with virtualized, scalable, consolidated resources From a business perspective, it's enabling clients to capture new business value from existing IT and consume new higher value products and services faster. The benefits are impactful: Cloud drives down overall cost of running business applications, has a lower TCO, can force us to conform to better ways of running tasks / business functions, and empowers business to access best in class applications, quickly that we never could have in past. Thank you.
The IBM Smart Cloud platform focuses on how optimally enable this type of transformation. One of the strengths of IBM Smart Cloud is it’s underpinnings. It is build on a Cloud Reference Architecture and Common Cloud Management Platforms that embody the collective strength and expertise of IBM Technology – Software and Hardware, along with the unique IBM know-how and expertise garnered from 1) implementing thousands of Cloud infrastructures world-wide and 2) managing IT environments for some of the most demanding companies around the world for decades. This chart is an attempt to summarize the features of the IBM Smart Business Development & Test on the IBM Cloud offering. The image on the left is a screen capture of a portion of the offering Internet site, and highlights a “View demo” function. The “View demo” graphic is a link to a demo pop-up. The site itself and additional offering information can be found using the links at the bottom left. The list on the right summarizes the elements of the offering: There are nine 32- and 64-bit configuration options that allow you to pick the virtual machine (VM) instance sizes that best fit your needs. These can be configured with either a Linux operating system (Redhat or Novell SUSE) or Windows Server 2003 or 2008. There are dozens of preconfigured and tested software images that you can use as the basis for building and saving customized private images to suit your needs. Private images can be shared by users within an account. With the persistent storage option, you can order extra blocks of persistent storage to use with a virtual machine instance for longer term storage of content. Small (256 GB), medium (512 GB) and large (2048 GB) blocks are available. You can attach up to 3 blocks to each server at provisioning time, assuming instance and blocks all are located in the same Cloud center. A customer may clone un-attached persistent storage block (included clones) to a block of the same size located in the same cloud center. The system will not allow a user to clone a storage block if the user thereby exceeds his entitlement The offering provides a virtual private network option which isolates your instances on a private virtual LAN. In addition, servers can be configured with up to 4 IP addresses which enables you to build more robust systems by implementing fallback strategies. IBM standard and add-on support services consist of: Standard services: Technical support for all services—available through the web portal and by checking the online Cloud Service forum pages after log-in. Around-the-clock monitoring and management of the IBM cloud infrastructure, including: Security activities for the IBM Cloud Center base infrastructure to govern access to and use of our services Scheduled maintenance for the IBM Cloud Center base infrastructure to maintain our services Fee-based add-on services: Remote on-boarding support to help account managers and end users learn how to navigate and use the self-service web portal Premium support—around-the-clock telephone support with a web-based service request ticketing system Add-on operating system assistance on top of premium support for Linux as well as Windows Server. From a payment perspective, all of the standard features are available on a pay-as-you-go model. Virtual servers, selected software images, persistent storage and static IP addresses are charged for by the hour. Persistent storage charges include charges for storage blocks as well as for storing private images. Virtual private network options are charged for per month. Use of certain software images require a prepaid license. Operating system charges are included in the virtual server per hour charge. IBM provides network bandwidth for inbound and outbound data transfers between the IBM Cloud Center and the Internet for you to access and use the services. IBM tracks and measures the amount of data transferred. Data transfer is charged for on a GB-transferred basis. Reserved capacity packages consist of pools of resources from which customers can provision as required. They carry a monthly charge but also offer preferred (discounted) rates on the virtual servers provisioned. Premium support is charged for as an uplift to pay-as-you-go charges.
New in Workload Deployer V3: Ability to construct integrated workload patterns based on IBM middleware Time-saving IBM Workload Deployer Pattern for Web Applications enables end-to-end management of web applications Added support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux in z/VM environments Main Point: Built upon proven WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance technology to further enhance the deployment and management of on-premise cloud environments with new Hypervisors, and best practice workload patterns, and more. Overview IBM Workload Deployer V3.0 dispenses and manages WebSphere Application Server to virtualized servers and private cloud computing environments. Workload Deployer dispenses patterns of virtual images into a pool of virtualized resources running on a supported hypervisor. For your convenience, a set of virtual images including WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition and DB2 is preloaded on Workload Deployer. Licenses to use these virtual images must be purchased separately. In addition to existing support for IBM AIX in PowerVM environments, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in z/VM environments, and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux in VMware ESX environments, Workload Deployer now supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux in z/VM environments. For additional information, refer to Software Announcement ABC-123, (RFA-XXXX) dated April 30, 2010. Workload Deployer V3.0 offers exciting new capability: Support for automated elasticity of environments which make use of the WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition Intelligent Management Pack More robust hardware platform, with more compute power and storage capacity Support for a new IBM Workload Deployer Pattern for Web Applications which provides end-to-end management of web applications Ability to initiate virtual machine mobility to more efficiently place workloads Support for Computer Associates ’ VM Secure product in z/VM environments Microsoft Excel readable usage reports Finer grained control of IP address assignment and node naming in pattern deployments A new type of pattern is available in Workload Deployer V3.0. These patterns are referred to as “workload patterns.” Workload patterns are tailored for a specific use case, and contain all the capability required to serve that use case. The more familiar “topology patterns” (which are composed of Hypervisor Edition images and have been available since WebSphere CloudBurst v1.0) have become more dynamic in Workload Deployer V3.0. When the Intelligent Management Pack is enabled in a deployed environment, users may enable automated elasticity to allow patterns to grow and shrink without manual input. Workload Deployer also adds support for the new WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for System z virtual image to support Red Hat Enterprise Linux for z/VM. The ability to initiate virtual machine mobility, coupled with finer grained control of IP address assignment and node naming makes it easier to use Workload Deployer in association with production environments. Workload Deployer delivers value in several ways: Helps lower costs, as higher hardware utilization rates are reached in virtualized environments, reducing power consumption. Increases agility and reduces time to value. It empowers individual application managers, developers, and testers to manage IT infrastructure in a more autonomous and agile fashion by leveraging a shared self-service, multi-tenant environment. As a result, your company can quickly adapt to changing business needs. Workload Deployer delivers value by factoring out repetitive, time-consuming manual tasks, such as hardware approvals, operating system installation and configuration, middleware installation and configuration, application installation and configuration, and maintenance applications, and replaces them with a single interaction on the administrative console. Increases repeatability and helps reduce costly errors by allowing you to customize environments once (in the way familiar to WebSphere Application Server users), capture them, and redeploy them at the click of a button. This gives application managers, developers, and testers a standard, known starting point from which to make exploratory changes, evaluate development fixes, apply maintenance, and install applications. Provides a physically secure hardware appliance. It manages a shared, multi-tenant environment, where isolation and security are of utmost importance. The secure nature of the appliance is rooted in a self-disabling switch, triggered if the appliance cover is removed. This physical security allows Workload Deployer to serve as a secure vault for credentials, which can be tied to virtual images throughout their entire lifecycle (in storage, being dispensed, running in the cloud, or being removed from the cloud). Manages users and groups and their access. It tracks and reports usage statistics based on user and group information. These reports can be used for internal chargeback purposes. Workload Deployer is targeted for on-premise production, staging, development, and test environments, and can also serve as the foundation for hosted software-as-a-service environments. While some employees had access to email, the provider was often unreliable -- emails were lost and performance was low. Shriram needed an email solution that could accommodate rapid growth and perform with speed and consistency. The company chose IBM LotusLive iNotes to provide all of its field sales reps with reliable, cost-effective and easy to use cloud email, which can be accessed on the road, at their desk and from their mobile devices. Lofotkraft is a regional energy company with operations in five branches throughout the Lofoten Islands, Norway. The company's core business is the transport of electricity through its distribution network which serves more than 16,000 customers. Lofotkraft needed a better way to do business with key business partners and vendors outside the firewall without worrying about security and to communicate with employees working in the different branches. They were also looking for a solution that would reduce IT complexity and did not require them to invest in another server. Lofotkraft chose IBM LotusLive Engage to share files, manage projects, host meetings and chat with partners, vendors and colleagues. Leveraging the guest feature, they are able to invite partners and vendors to collaborate on projects, share information and join online meetings. They have also been able to reduce confusing email threads and eliminate version control issues. Because all the services are integrated and available from one single dashboard in the IBM cloud, Lofotkraft and its partners can easily collaborate and meet anytime, anywhere. Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and most experienced commercial law firms, is taking customer service to the next level, says Silanis - the electronic signature provider for 21st Century, Liberty Mutual, the US Army and many other leading financial services and government organizations. There are a number of key areas where we're actually defining entirely new markets. We're investing in our cloud portfolio in these key areas to take our clients to the next level. These includes the cloud enabled services that make up our Smarter Commerce and Social Business solutions, as well as emerging opportunities in analytics enabled by the cloud. Briefly define each space: Smarter Commerce: Is about improving the processes associated in commerce- buying, selling, marketing, services- by acting on insights generated through mobile and social commerce. It is about helping clients become more efficient and effective, improving margins, and creating new revenue streams. Social Business: The way people work is changing. Collaboration within and outside of your organization is no longer a nice-to-have, it's a necessity. Cloud technology makes it possible for users to collabrate within and across company firewalls, and simplifies and improves daily business interactions. According to an IDC Survey ("IDC North American Cloud Survey" - Robert Mahowald, January 2011), 'After email, with 58% saying they'd be using a cloud solution of some type in the next 24 months, overall collaboration was the second most important workload, with 48% saying they'd be looking to build out an internal cloud, or use a public solution.‘ BAO: Analytics is the key to making both of these- and many other spaces- work. BAO is the process that enables our clients to turn oceans of data into predictive models and actionable decisions. These cloud-enabled capabilities allow our clients to optimize the people and processes within their organizations, use insights to drive smarter decisions, and instrument and maximize their assets. We’re also defining new industry solutions cloud services, which enable industry-specific outcomes for our clients. A great example there is around Smarter Cities, which I’ll talk about shortly. Let's take a closer look at one of these spaces and the cloud-enabled services.
