5. Process for
Advanced
Management of End
of Life of Aircraft
With the increasing number of retired aircraft – more than an
estimated 6,000 within the next twenty years – the safe
management of their end of life, both in terms of the
environment and public health, has become a crucial issue.
The PAMELA project demonstrated the possibility of recycling
up to 85% of plane components, a significant advance on the
earlier rate of 60%. These activities were carried out in
response to the high number of planes that will be retired within
the next few years and its environmental and economic impact.
While the “smart and safe dismantling” method used during the
project was simple, it had to respect the aircraft as well as the
environment, health and safety (EHS) regulations.

7. A trailblazing solution for
point-to-point air cargo
transportation
For the first time in history, an aircraft, the LCA60T, will load and unload
up to 60 tonnes of heavy or bulky loads in hover flight.
As the market for renewable power rapidly expands, an industry-wide
need is emerging for cost-effective and sustainable transport to difficult-
to-access location.

9. Eurohab
Peter WEISS and Jean-Jacques FAVIER, two of the co-founders of
Spartan Space, developed the EuroHab concept, an inflatable habitat
for missions on the surface of Moon or Mars. Late 2020, the EuroHab
concept won the “Lunar village” special mention at the Jacques
Rougerie Foundation – Institut de France International Architecture
Competition.
Following this award, a scaled prototype of the habitat was selected to
be exhibited in the French pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai.
10. Connected
forest
This project consists of developing and testing in a real
situation a prototype of a network for measuring and
monitoring forest ecosystems based on a set of in situ
sensors, including an on-board telecommunications system
and a computer system for processing, visualization and
monitoring. interactivity with data.

The first drone factory for civilian use in French vanilla islands in the Cambaie area in Saint-Paul. This R&D unit for
manufacturing unmanned aircraft was detected and incubated at Réunion Island Tech Park. Fly-R, operating under
the Aéro Composites Innovation label, aims to design a complete range of drones for maritime and land surveillance.

Two exceptional women are ready to commit this historic project a success. Erika Vélio, an
experienced engineer and godmother of the latest promotion of graduates from the Faculty of
Sciences of La Réunion Island is the expected Project Manager for the technological development of
the "Papang" sailboat. And Ambre N'Guyen, a young and brilliant science student, who, over the past
year, has acquired considerable experience as Miss Reunion 2016 in the art of bringing our island to
the highest level, is preparing to be the figure of bow of this historical adventure symbol of the entry of
Reunion in its world dimension.

19. Indian Ocean Aerotech : air
transport recycling and
maintenance center
Currently, there are no procedures for decommissioning aircraft in safe and environmentally responsible conditions (e.g. existing End of
Life vehicle (ELV) rules are not aircraft specific). Hence, the project’s objectives were threefold.
First, it would demonstrate, by full-scale experimentation on aircraft's, that 85- 95% of their components – instead of the most business
practices that allow only for recovery rates of 60%, mostly of aluminium, the other materials being eliminated – can be easily recycled,
reused or recovered.
Second, the project would set up a new standard for safe and environmentally friendly management of End of Life Aircraft (ELA). It
would cover the entire process, from storage at the pre-decommissioning phase, disassembling and dismantling, to the recycling or
elimination of the materials.
Finally, the project would launch a European network that is able to further disseminate the dismantling process.
20. 📚 Lights, Enlightment
Light guides us and helps us move forward: therefore, as a
nod to the Enlightenment, the France Pavilion showcases
the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert for the first time
outside France. This forward-looking masterpiece with a
universal scope lays the foundations for modern democracy
and for ideas-sharing and knowledge-sharing.
