Art Nouveau was a style that originated in France in the late 19th century that rejected historical revival styles in favor of new organic forms inspired by nature. Key characteristics included flowing, curved lines; natural motifs like flowers; and an emphasis on craftsmanship. Pioneering Art Nouveau architects like Victor Horta, Hector Guimard, and Henry Van de Velde designed buildings, interiors, and objects that featured these organic forms and rejected traditional ornamentation. The style embraced many art forms and spread across Europe in the early 20th century before being replaced by modernist styles.

The Early Modern Age began with the fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans in 1453. This significantly weakened Christian Europe both politically and economically. During this period, economic activity increased through intensified agriculture, trade, and the development of banking and mercantilism. Monarchs also consolidated power by forming strong central governments and armies to curb the influence of nobility. Ideas of humanism, inspired by classical antiquity, emphasized reason and critical thinking which helped drive innovations in science, philosophy and art.
During the 1920s and 1930s, totalitarian regimes emerged in Italy, Germany, and the Soviet Union. These regimes were authoritarian and characterized by a single leader like Mussolini, Hitler, or Stalin who controlled all aspects of government, eliminated political opposition, and emphasized propaganda and nationalism. They imposed strict social and economic controls over their populations. The best known were Italian Fascism under Mussolini and German Nazism under Hitler.
The 1920s saw economic problems in Europe including high unemployment, rising prices, and Germany's inability to pay war reparations which led to inflation and declining living standards. The Great Depression began in the late 1920s due to overproduction, low agricultural prices, and stock market speculation. It worsened in 1929 with the crash of the US stock market, causing banks to fail, industry to decline, unemployment to rise, and economic recession around the world. The Depression had international consequences as US banks withdrew money from Europe.
This document discusses mining resources around the world and in Spain, including metals, energy resources, precious stones, and more. It also addresses the environmental impacts of mining such as land changes, pollution, and destruction of natural spaces. Additionally, it covers classification of industries by origin, employees, raw materials used, and factors that influence industrial location like access to raw materials, skilled workers, and global markets. Finally, it mentions traditional and new industrial landscapes as well as the industrial crisis and concepts like deindustrialization and functional reconversion.
This document describes different types of traditional and modern landscapes. Traditional landscapes include Mediterranean landscapes characterized by wheat, vine, olive and vegetable crops using terraced systems, oceanic landscapes featuring cereal crops and livestock grazing, and tropical and monsoon landscapes growing rice and cereals with populations living in stilt houses. Modern landscapes incorporate greenhouses growing vegetables and flowers commercially, desert agriculture using wells and irrigation for large crops, jungle crops like soy causing deforestation, and other agrarian and fishing landscapes involving extensive livestock and aquaculture.
During the Spanish Enlightenment period, there were several reforms aimed at modernizing and centralizing Spain. Key reforms included reducing the privileges of autonomous kingdoms, implementing Castilian as the main language, introducing new crops from America, improving irrigation systems, and developing industry and manufacturing. Trade was also liberalized by building new infrastructure like roads and ports, removing internal customs, and ending Cádiz's monopoly on colonial trade. The power of the Inquisition and Jesuits was reduced as well. However, Enlightenment ideas mainly impacted elites and faced opposition from the upper nobility and clergy who did not want to lose privileges.
(colonne dorique, colonne ionique, colonne
corinthienne).
mode : colonnes, pilastres, frontons, coupoles,
escalier monumental. La Renaissance
française trouve son originalité dans le
mélange de styles.
