That’s my toy! Tristan shouted. He grabbed a toy
from his cousin, Troy.
– I had it first! Troy started to cry.
—k—
Pierre.
3. 676767
– It’s mine! You can’t play with it, said Tristan.
– Those are unkind words, Tristan, Grandpa Jake said
when he heard the shouting.
– Troy has my toys, Tristan said.
– He’s not playing with them, Troy cried. But he won’t let
me play either.
—k—
– Pierre a pris mes jouets, fitTristan.
4. 686868
– Why can’t Troy play with
your toys, Tristan? Grandpa
Jake asked.
– Because, Tristan
answered slowly,
they are mine.
– Here’s
a story,
Grandpa Jake
said, that will
teach us how to
solve this problem.
—k—

It was a bad day for Bits, the
bee. She felt sad and angry
as she worked around the
beehive. She flew out
of the hive to collect
nectar.
– Bits! Wait!
called Pepper,
one of her
bee-friends
from a
nearby
hive.
—k—
ruche voisine.
6. 707070
Bits didn’t want to be with Pepper right then, but Pepper
caught up with her.
– You’re flying too fast for an old bee like me, he chuckled.
– I must hurry to collect more nectar, Bits said.
—k—
Mireille.
7. 717171
Ils volèrent jusqu’à
un massif de fleurs
particulièrement riches
en nectar. Mireille en
ramènerait plein à la
ruche pour que les
autres abeilles puissent
faire du miel.
They flew to a
patch of flowers, full
of nectar that Bits
would take back
to the hive, so the
other bees could
use it to make
honey.
—k—
8. 727272
Pepper talked constantly, but Bits was quiet. She
didn’t feel like talking.
– What’s wrong, Bits?
– Nothing, she replied.
—k—
Cléon était bavard, mais Mireille demeurait
silencieuse. Elle n’avait pas envie de parler.
– Qu’est-ce qui ne va pas, Mireille ?
– Ça va, répondit-elle.
9. 737373
– You seem to be angry, Pepper said. Are you angry at me?
– Oh, not at all! She felt bad for ignoring Pepper. I’m sorry,
Pepper. I am not angry with you. I’m just having a bad day.
Pepper sympathized.
– Did something happen?
—k—
–Tu m’as l’air contrariée, fit remarquer Cléon. Es-tu fâchée
contre moi ?
10. 747474
– A few days ago,
we made a lot of honey.
Then the farmer took over
half of it. We spent many days
collecting nectar for the honey. He
takes our honey often. He leaves
enough for us, but it makes me
angry because I have to work so
hard for it.
—k—
– Il y a quelque temps,
notre ruche était pleine
de miel, mais le fermier
nous a presque tout
pris. Alors que nous
avions passé des
jours et des jours
à récolter le
nectar ! Et
cela arrive
souvent. Il
nous en
laisse assez,
mais ça
me met
en colère
parce que
maintenant
je dois mettre
les bouchées
doubles.
11. 757575
– I understand, Pepper said softly. I once felt that way too.
Bits asked:
– Does it still bother you?
– No, he answered. Do you know why the farmer takes the
honey, Bits?
She shook her head.
—k—
– Je comprends, répondit Cléon avec douceur. Avant, je me
sentais comme toi.
– Et ça t’arrive encore ?
– Non.
12. 767676
– The farmer uses the honey, just like we do. He eats honey
on bread, or uses it to make sweets. He thinks it’s delicious. So
does his little girl, Pepper smiled.
Bits thought, I guess it’s not so bad since he likes it so much.
—k—
13. 777777
– Giving to others makes God happy, Pepper explained.
Because whatever we give, we always get more in return. God
likes us to share with others, just like He shares the wonderful
world He created with us.
– Thank you for explaining that to me, Bits said. It will help me
to not get bitter when the farmer takes our honey. I feel better
now.
—k—
– Lorsqu’on donne, cela fait plaisir à Dieu, expliqua Cléon,
et on en reçoit toujours davantage. Dieu aime que nous
partagions avec les autres. Lui-même partage avec nous le
monde merveilleux qu’Il a créé.
notre miel. Je me sens bien mieux à présent.
14. 787878
Later Bits saw the farmer’s little
girl in the garden. The little girl
smiled.
– Oh, thank You, God,
for bees that make
delicious honey and
share it with us.
Bits was glad
that honey made
the little girl happy.
– You’re welcome,
Bits whispered, as
she flew
back
to her
hive.
—k—
15. 797979
– I want to share my toys with you, Troy! Tristan said. Just like
Bits shared the honey with the farmer and his family.
– Thank you, Troy said. I’ll take good care of them.
Grandpa Jake smiled as the two boys played happily together.
—k—

you give to others, God
