59. Le Déjeuner des canotiers est une huile sur toile majeure du peintre impressionniste français
Auguste Renoir.
Représentant différents personnages sur la terrasse de la Maison Fournaise à Chatou, le tableau est
aujourd'hui conservé dans la Philipps Collection, à Washington, aux États-Unis.
Il y a des similitudes similitudes dans la composition du Déjeuner des canotiers avec Les Noces de
Cana et une forme d'hommage à ce tableau de Paul Véronèse que Renoir a étudié au musée du
Louvre.
Renoir a réuni, sur la terrasse de l'Auberge du Père Fournaise, tous ses amis et modèles pour
participer à cette grande oeuvre.
Au premier plan, à gauche, Aline joue avec son petit chien. Derrière elle se tient Hippolyte Alphonse
Fournaise, le fils du propriétaire de l'auberge. Accoudée à la rambarde, Alphonsine Fournaise, sa
soeur, écoute le Baron Raoul Barbier assis dos tourné. Ce dernier, ancien officier de cavalerie, avait
la réputation d'être un amateur de canots, de chevaux... et de jeunes femmes.
60. Au premier plan, à droite, se trouve le peintre Gustave Caillebotte, régatier, architecte naval ... et
millionnaire, premier mécène des impressionnistes.
Assis à califourchon sur une chaise, il écoute discrètement l'actrice Ellen André tandis que Maggiolo,
directeur du journal "Le Triboulet " se penche vers elle.
Derrière eux, le petit groupe est formé du journaliste Paul Lhote avec un pince-nez, d'Eugène-Pierre
Lestringuez et de l'actrice de la Comédie Française Jeanne Samary.
Au centre, le modèle Angèle boit, assise à côté d'un homme dont on aperçoit juste le profil.
Derrière Angèle se tient le financier Ephrussi coiffé d'un chapeau haut de forme. Editeur de La Gazette
des Beaux-Arts, il converse avec le poète Jules Laforgue.
En arrière plan, au travers des saules miroite la Seine sur laquelle passent des voiliers.
Quant au jeune homme, l'inconnu du tableau dont on ne découvre que le visage, on raconte qu'il pourrait
s'agir de Renoir qui se serait planté là pour éviter une composition à treize personnages qui aurait rappelé
"La Cène".

V pozadí můžeme zahlédnout jeden z mnoha nových železničních mostů, symbol moderní doby.
Malíř zachytil na obraze v teplých, jasných barvách účinky světla rozptýleného plátěnou střechou.
Pohyb postav je naznačen volnými tahy štětce; pro zátiší použil malíř tlustší nánosy barev.
