Sweetening and sulfur recovery of sour associated gas and lean acid gas in th...Frames
Effective and efficient removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an essential step when sweetening gas for downstream processes. By simultaneously turning the captured hydrogen sulfide into elemental sulfur, a Frames THIOPAQ O&G system improves gas value, while creating a saleable chemical widely sought after in the agricultural and bulk chemical industry.

Key aspects covered include risk-based inspection planning, preventative maintenance approaches, independent verification of inspection results, and annual reviews of integrity program performance. The plan aims to ensure pipeline integrity and compliance with regulations through defined inspection and monitoring activities.
The explosion hazard in urea process (1)Prem Baboo
The document discusses explosion hazards in the urea production process. Passivation air used in the reactor, stripper, and downstream equipment can form an explosive mixture with the small amount of hydrogen (0.14-0.2%) present in CO2. The HP scrubber is identified as a risky vessel where an explosive mixture could form. Triangular diagrams are used to show combustible and non-combustible gas mixtures. Test results from a fertilizer plant show that optimal oxygen levels are needed to avoid explosions while minimizing ammonia losses. Higher chromium stainless steel grades require less oxygen for passivation than lower grades.
The document analyzes the value chain for the petroleum industry from upstream to downstream processes. It discusses exploration, drilling, and production as the main upstream processes. Midstream processes include transportation of oil via pipelines, trucks, and ships as well as refining. Downstream processes focus on transportation, storage and distribution to end consumers. The value chain is complex with many stakeholders adding value at different stages from extracting crude oil to delivering gasoline to motorists. Major challenges include depleting resources, disruptions in supply chains, and balancing environmental sustainability with increasing energy demands.

The Neuber Method is useful in calculating the nonlinear stress at a highly localized stress concentration region in a part. The linear FEA solution has the stress concentration factor, Kt, implicit in the linear solution. The Neuber method would calculate a nonlinear effective stress-strain point which allows the analyst to establish the kt. This paper demonstrate an explicit solution based on the establishment of a linearized stress-strain portion of the material. A related and more accurate method is the ESED
This presentation covers process safety considerations and when a dynamic simulation is required. We also provide a modelling approach and a case study on Coker Bottoms Steam Generator, which includes information on device selection and device sizing.
Evaporation Pond Process Design in Oil & Gas IndustryVijay Sarathy
In the upstream oil & gas industry, produced water is a by-product of well production. Hydrocarbon wells initially produce less water but in late field life, the water content increases. Produced water can contain oil carryover and a host of salts with TDS ranging anywhere from 2,000 mg/L to 40,000 mg/L for which evaporation ponds are used to concentrate by evaporating the associated water.
The energy requirement consists of pumping concentrate to the pond and in some cases aeration is provided to enhance the rate of evaporation. The ponds are lined with synthetic liner material to prevent seepage of water into the soil. In case of any corrosive compounds in the water, the number of layers is increased. Landscape and topography play a role in setting up evaporation ponds and it is necessary to have a flat terrain to avoid any overflow of the contents.
Evaporation ponds must also ensure that the amount of water entering is minimized and avoid any flooding. As part of waste disposal, the ponds maybe designed to accumulate sludge over the life time of the operating wells or can be periodically removed. The below figure depicts an evaporation pond.
The following article focuses on estimating the rate of evaporation, water surface temperature and rate of heat transfer to the water in an evaporation pond.

Automotive’s Latest Model: Redefining Competitiveness through the Circular Ec...accenture
The document discusses how automotive companies can embrace circular economy principles to remain competitive. It notes that car sharing has increased vehicle usage rates by 3 to 5 times. If automotive companies adopt selected circular business models across their value chains, they could see a 14% reduction in costs and $400-600 billion in additional revenue by 2030. This would require approaches like vehicle design for durability, product-as-a-service business models, extending product lifetimes, and increasing reuse of materials. The document outlines the circular economy value chain and capabilities automotive companies need to develop, such as enabling after-sale service and continuous customer engagement.
This document discusses methods for estimating capital and product costs. It describes capital costs as including fixed costs like manufacturing equipment, non-manufacturing indirect costs, and working capital. Product costs include variable manufacturing costs, fixed costs, overhead, general expenses, and distribution/marketing. The document outlines several methods for estimating capital costs, including using percentage of equipment costs, capacity factors to account for scale, and inflation indexes to adjust for time. Accuracy of estimates ranges from +/- 5% for detailed to +/- 40% for order-of-magnitude.
The Catalan Office for Climate Change has updated the Guidance on calculating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This document provides guidance on computing safe purge rates for flare stacks and blowdown stacks in refineries. It presents an equation and experimental data from studies at an American Oil Company refinery. The key findings are:
1) Experiments showed that the product of purge velocity and the height of the stack above a given oxygen concentration level (3-6%) is constant, allowing derivation of an equation to calculate safe purge rates.
2) The equation was simplified to a graphical method, with safe purge rates plotted based on stack diameter and purge gas molecular weight.
3) Minimum safe purge rates for flare stacks were found to produce a barely-visible flame, and for blowdown stacks to maintain less than 6%
