FOREWORD4
The FIFA Club World Cup 2007 has once again
confirmed the tournament’s enormous potential.
With each year that passes, this young competition
acquires a new dimension and its reputation goes
from strength to strength. This is demonstrated
by increased television coverage and match
attendances and the number of countries (four)
bidding to host the 2009 and 2010 tournaments.
This presages a bright future for the competition.
By winning the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2007,
AC Milan (Italy) have put an end to Brazilian
domination of the tournament. Congratulations
to the winners, whose dazzling skills were a treat to
behold! It is also interesting to note that AC Milan’s
star-studded squad includes a wealth of players
eligible for the Italian national team. Indeed, seven
of the eleven players in AC Milan’s starting line-up
for the final were Italian. Boca Juniors (Argentina)
certainly provided a stiff test for the Italians. Over
the course of the tournament, the South Americans
exhibited breathtaking technique, the ability to
retain possession and sharp finishing skills.
Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) took third place in
the tournament, cheered on by exceptional support
from the stands. While Urawa earned plaudits
from observers, Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia)
also made a favourable impression, particularly in
terms of their organisation on the pitch. Pachuca
(Mexico), on the other hand, gave a clear indication
of their technical qualities but were unable to find
the net. As expected, Sepahan (Iran) proved superior
to Oceania’s representatives Waitakere United (New
Zealand) but once again came out second best
against Urawa, who had also beaten them in the
second leg of the AFC Champions League final.
On an individual level, FIFA World Player 2007 Kaka
was awarded the adidas Golden Ball for player of the
tournament by the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG),
ahead of AC Milan team-mate Clarence Seedorf and
the Boca Juniors striker Rodrigo Palacio.
Urawa Red Diamonds meanwhile carried off the
FIFA Fair Play Award.
The 2007 tournament average of three goals per
match was the highest strike rate of the past three
years and was close to the record of 3.07 set in
2000.
As is customary, this report by the TSG provides a
detailed and thorough analysis of the play and the
participating teams as well as more insight into
the technical, tactical, fitness-related and other
phenomena observed at the competition.
As mentioned above, the 2007 FIFA Club World
Cup confirmed that the tournament is going
from strength to strength. It was broadcast on
television in a record 233 countries worldwide.
Attendances, which were impressive enough last
year, have increased yet again. An average of more
than 45,500 attended the seven matches staged
in Tokyo, Toyota and Yokohama, setting another
record.
Much of the credit for this success is due to our
wonderful hosts from Japan Football Association,
Dentsu and our partners, in particular Toyota and
the host broadcaster, Nippon Television Network
Corporation, all of whose professionalism,
enthusiasm and experience were of crucial
importance. Our sincere thanks go to all of them.
We now look to 2008 … and beyond.

L’édition 2007 de la Coupe du Monde des Clubs
de la FIFA a une fois encore confirmé l’énorme
potentiel de ce tournoi. Au fil des ans, cette com-
pétition très jeune prend une nouvelle dimension
et sa notoriété va crescendo. Les statistiques le
prouvent : une couverture télévisée en hausse,
des affluences en augmentation, quatre candidats
pour accueillir les éditions 2009 et 2010, tout cela
présage d’un bel avenir pour cette épreuve.
En remportant la Coupe du Monde des Clubs de la
FIFA Japon 2007, l’AC Milan (Italie) a mis fin au rè-
gne des équipes brésiliennes sur cette compétition.
Félicitations aux vainqueurs dont le talent épous-
touflant fut un régal. Il est intéressant de noter que
cette constellation de stars comprend une pléiade
de joueurs éligibles pour l’équipe nationale ita-
lienne. Sept d’entre eux figuraient dans le onze de
départ de l’AC Milan pour la finale... Boca Juniors
(Argentine) fut un très beau challenger. Au cours
du tournoi, les Sud-Américains ont faire valoir leur
technique remarquable, leur aptitude à conserver le
ballon et leur efficacité dans la zone de vérité.
L’équipe d’Urawa Red Diamonds (Japon), pous-
sée par un public exceptionnel, est montée sur
la troisième marche du podium. Elle a séduit les
observateurs, au même titre que l’Etoile Sportive
du Sahel (Tunisie) qui a laissé une impression très
favorable, notamment par son organisation sur le
terrain. Pachuca (Mexique) a démontré d’évidentes
qualités techniques mais n’a pas su trouver le che-
min des filets. Après avoir logiquement dominé la
formation océanienne de Waitakere United (Nou-
velle-Zélande), Sepahan (Iran) n’a pu se défaire
de l’emprise du club japonais, déjà vainqueur du
même duel lors de la finale retour de la Ligue des
Champions de l’AFC.
Sur le plan individuel, Kaká, Joueur Mondial de la
FIFA 2007, a été élu Ballon d’Or adidas du tour-
noi par le Groupe d’Etude Technique de la FIFA.
L’artiste milanais a devancé son partenaire de club,
Clarence Seedorf, et l’attaquant de Boca Juniors,
Rodrigo Palacio.
Urawa Red Diamonds s’est adjugé le prix du fair-
play de la FIFA.
Avec exactement 3 buts par match, la moyenne
du tournoi est la plus élevée des trois dernières
éditions. Elle effleure le record de 2000 (3,07).
Ce rapport technique, œuvre des experts du
Groupe d’Etude Technique de la FIFA, vous of-
frira comme de coutume une analyse détaillée et
approfondie du jeu et des équipes participantes
et vous permettra d’en savoir davantage sur les
paramètres techniques, tactiques, athlétiques ou
autres constatés lors de cette compétition. Com-
me évoqué plus haut, l’édition 2007 a confirmé
le succès grandissant de cette épreuve. Les images
télévisées du tournoi étaient disponibles dans 223
territoires du monde entier. Un record. L’affluence
dans les stades, déjà remarquable l’an passé, a
encore augmenté. Plus de 45 500 spectateurs en
moyenne ont assisté aux sept matches de la com-
pétition disputés à Tokyo, Toyota et Yokohama. Là
aussi, du jamais vu !
Le mérite en revient en grande partie à nos for-
midables hôtes de la Fédération Japonaise de
Football, à Dentsu, aux partenaires, en premier
lieu Toyota, et au diffuseur-hôte, Nippon Television
Network Corporation. Leur professionnalisme, leur
enthousiasme et leur expérience furent détermi-
nants. Qu’ils en soient ici sincèrement remerciés.

La edición 2007 de la Copa Mundial de Clubes de
la FIFA corroboró una vez más el enorme potencial
de este torneo. Al paso de los años, esta joven
competición va adquiriendo una nueva dimensión
y su fama va en aumento. Las estadísticas lo
confirman: una cobertura mediática en alza,
cada vez más espectadores, y cuatro candidatos
a la organización de los torneos en 2009 y 2010,
presagios de buenaventura para este certamen.
Con la conquista del Mundial de clubes 2007 en
Japón, el club italiano AC Milán ha puesto punto final
al reinado de escuadras brasileñas en este torneo.
Felicitaciones a los vencedores, cuyo derroche de
talento hizo las delicias del público. Interesante es
que esta constelación de estrellas incluía una pléyade
de jugadores elegibles para la escuadra nacional
italiana. Siete de ellos figuraban en la alineación
inicial del AC Milán en la final. El argentino Boca
Juniors presentó un reto espectacular. Durante el
torneo, los sudamericanos destacaron por su técnica
admirable, su habilidad para retener el balón y su
eficacia en la zona de rigor.
Un público excepcional alentó al cuadro nipón
Urawa Red Diamonds, que alcanzó el tercer puesto
del podio. La escuadra sedujo a los observadores
del mismo modo que el tunecino Etoile du Sahel,
conjunto que causó una muy buena impresión,
sobre todo por su organización en el terreno. El
Pachuca mexicano hizo gala de calidad técnica,
pero no encontró el camino hacia las redes. Tras
imponerse, como era de esperarse, a la formación
neozelandesa Waitakere United, el iraní Sepahan no
pudo doblegar al club japonés, que ya había salido
airoso en el duelo anterior escenificado en la final
de vuelta de la Liga de Campeones de la AFC.
En el plano individual, el Grupo de Estudio Técnico
de la FIFA otorgó a Kaká, Jugador Mundial de la
FIFA 2007, el Balón de Oro de adidas del torneo.
El genio del AC Milán superó a su compañero de
escuadra Clarence Seedorf, así como al ariete del
Boca Juniors Rodrigo Palacio.
El Urawa Red Diamonds se hizo merecedor del
Premio Fair Play de la FIFA.
Con un total exacto de 3 anotaciones por partido,
la media del torneo es la más alta de las tres
ediciones disputadas, y se acerca al récord del año
2000 (3.07 goles).
El presente informe técnico, obra de expertos del
Grupo de Estudio Técnico de la FIFA, le ofrece,
como ya es costumbre, un minucioso y profundo
análisis del juego y de los equipos participantes,
que contiene interesante información sobre los
aspectos técnicos, tácticos, atléticos, y de otra
índole, constatados durante la competición.
Tal como comentamos al inicio, la edición de
2007 ha confirmado el éxito creciente de este
certamen. Las imágenes televisivas del torneo se
transmitieron a 223 territorios de todo el mundo,
todo un récord. Se incrementó la asistencia a los
estadios, ya de por sí admirable el año pasado.
Un promedio superior a los 45,500 espectadores
presenció los siete partidos de la competición
disputados en Tokio, Toyota y Yokohama. En este
caso también, ¡algo nunca antes visto!
En gran parte, el mérito se atribuye a nuestros
excepcionales anfitriones, la Asociación de Fútbol
de Japón, Dentsu, nuestros patrocinadores,
en primer lugar Toyota, y a la emisora local
Nippon Television Network Corporation. Su
profesionalidad, su entusiasmo y su experiencia
fueron factores determinantes, y por ello les
expresamos nuestro sincero agradecimiento.

Die Ausgabe 2007 der FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaft
hat einmal mehr das enorme Potenzial dieses noch
jungen Wettbewerbs vor Augen geführt, der von
Jahr zu Jahr in neue Dimensionen vorstösst. So-
wohl die Fernsehabdeckung als auch die Zuschau-
erzahlen wiesen dieses Jahr ein kräftiges Plus auf,
und für die Turniere 2009 und 2010 liegen bereits
vier Bewerbungen vor. Das lässt für die Zukunft
einiges erwarten.
Mit dem Gewinn der FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaft
Japan 2007 setzte die AC Milan (Italien) der bra-
silianischen Regentschaft ein Ende. Dabei zeigte
das mit Stars gespickte Team, das bemerkenswer-
terweise auf zahlreiche italienische Leistungsträ-
ger setzt, Fussball vom Feinsten. Im Finale trat die
AC Milan mit nicht weniger als sieben Spielern
aus dem eigenen Land an und traf mit den Boca
Juniors (Argentinien) auf einen würdigen Heraus-
forderer. Im Turnierverlauf hatten die Südameri-
kaner eindrucksvoll ihre stupende Technik, ihre
Ballsicherheit und ihre Efﬁzienz vor dem Tor unter
Beweis gestellt.
Getragen vom eigenen Publikum, sicherte sich das
Team von Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) Rang drei
und vermochte die neutralen Beobachter ebenso
zu überzeugen wie die Equipe von Etoile Sportive
du Sahel (Tunesien), die als gut organisiertes Kol-
lektiv einen starken Eindruck hinterliess. Pachuca
(Mexiko) liess sein grosses technisches Können
zwar über weite Strecken aufblitzen, verpasste es
aber, Tore zu schiessen. Nach dem erwarteten Sieg
gegen Waitakere United (Neuseeland) hatte Se-
pahan (Iran) erneut das Nachsehen gegen seinen
japanischen Widersacher, der sich zuvor bereits im
Finale der AFC Champions League durchgesetzt
hatte.
Unter den Spielern ragte Kaká (FIFA-Weltfussballer
2007) heraus, der von der technischen Studien-
gruppe (TSG) denn auch mit dem Goldenen Ball
von adidas als bester Spieler ausgezeichnet wurde.
Hinter dem Ballkünstler von Milan belegten sein
Klubkollege Clarence Seedorf und der Stürmer Rod-
rigo Palacio von Boca Juniors die weiteren Plätze.
Der FIFA-Fairplay-Preis ging an Urawa Red Dia-
monds.
Mit genau drei Toren pro Spiel erreichte die Aus-
gabe 2007 den höchsten Wert der letzten drei
Jahre und lag damit nur wenig unter dem Rekord
von 2000 (3,07).
Der vorliegende technische Bericht, der von Ex-
perten der TSG der FIFA erstellt wurde, bietet
Ihnen wie gewohnt eine eingehende und detail-
lierte Analyse der Spiele und der Mannschaften
und verschafft Ihnen so einen Überblick über die
wichtigsten technischen, taktischen, athletischen
und weiteren Erkenntnisse dieses Turniers.
Die Ausgabe 2007 hat den zunehmenden Erfolg
der Klub-WM eindrucksvoll unter Beweis gestellt.
Das Turnier wurde in nicht weniger als 223 Gebiete
übertragen, was Rekord bedeutet. Die Besucher-
zahlen, die bereits im vergangenen Jahr beacht-
lich waren, stiegen nochmals an. Durchschnittlich
waren bei den sieben Spielen in Tokio, Toyota und
Yokohama mehr als 45 500 Zuschauer mit von der
Partie – so viele wie nie zuvor!
Zu verdanken ist dieser überwältigende Erfolg zu
einem grossen Teil den hervorragenden Gastge-

Host Broadcaster Nippon Television Network Cor-
poration. Ihre Professionalität, ihre Begeisterung
und ihre Erfahrung waren entscheidend. Dafür ein

Formations
While the teams’ formations were tailored
according to the desired result and the coach’s
game plan, they could also be tweaked or adjusted
during matches whenever necessary.
The following formations were used:
– 4-5-1 AC Milan
(4-4-2)
– 3-5-2 Boca Juniors,
Pachuca CF,
Urawa Reds and
Waitakere United
– 4-4-2 Etoile Sportive du Sahel
– 3-4-3 Sepahan
At the highest level of the game, the best players
are also allowed to take a flexible approach to
their given role.
Requirements of the teams
Generally speaking, all of the successful teams at
the FIFA Club World Cup:
– had players blessed with above-average
technique in every part of their team;
– were in excellent physical condition;
– had prepared mentally for the tournament and
were able to implement their tactics during
matches;
– were able to put their coach’s instructions into
effect;
– boasted players who could decide a match
with their skill, creativity and ability to read the
game.
Little space
The teams in Japan clearly had excellent athleticism
and tactical prowess. This was particularly true of AC
Milan and Boca Juniors but Urawa Red Diamonds,
Pachuca CF and Etoile Sportive du Sahel all tried to
put their opponents under immediate pressure by
closing down the man in possession and denying
him space. Consequently, the teams had very little
room for manoeuvre when launching attacks. This
meant that the teams were very cautious when
building attacks, preferring instead to rely on their
more creative players finding a flash of inspiration.
Another tactic saw players retreat quickly into their
own half so that they would be in a position to
launch rapid counter-attacks once possession had
been regained.
Crucial first goal
The recent trend of seeing the team that scores
first going on to win the match was witnessed
once again in Japan. In six of the seven matches,
the team that took the lead also won the
encounter.
The only exception to the rule was the play-
off for third place, with Urawa Red Diamonds
coming from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with
Etoile Sportive du Sahel before triumphing on
penalties.

Systèmes de jeu
Les systèmes de jeu étaient adoptés selon le ta-
bleau d’affichage ou les consignes de l’entraîneur,
et souvent modifiés en cours de rencontre.
Voilà les schémas tactiques des différentes équi-
pes :

Urawa Red Diamonds et

– 3-4-3 Sepahan
Au plus haut niveau, les joueurs sont capables de
grande flexibilité.
Caractéristiques des équipes
Dans l’ensemble, il a été possible d’observer lors de
cette Coupe du Monde des Clubs de la FIFA que
les meilleures équipes :
– possédaient des qualités techniques supérieures
à la moyenne
– et une excellente condition physique ;
– étaient bien préparées mentalement et pouvaient
compter sur leurs jeunes joueurs ;
– savaient mettre en application les consignes de
leur entraîneur ;
– avaient dans leurs rangs des joueurs de grande
classe capables de sentir le jeu dans les moments
décisifs et de sceller le sort d’un match grâce à
leur créativité.
Peu d’espaces
Il a aussi été possible de constater un bon niveau
physique global et une maturité tactique certaine.
Le Milan AC et Boca Juniors en premier lieu mais
aussi les Urawa Red Diamonds, le Pachuca CF et
l’Etoile Sportive du Sahel essayaient de déclencher
un pressing systématique sur le porteur du ballon
et de fermer les espaces. Conséquence de ce pres-
sing, il y avait peu d’espaces et peu de solutions
offensives pour les équipes. De fait, les équipes qui
étaient en possession du ballon construisaient leurs
attaques prudemment, laissant à leur meneur de
jeu le soin de créer la surprise ou d’accélérer.
Si ce pressing agressif n’était pas déclenché, les équi-
pes venaient se regrouper dans leur moitié de terrain.
Cela permettait d’attendre l’adversaire et, dès la ré-
cupération, de lancer de rapides contre-attaques.
De l’importance d’ouvrir le score
La tendance de ces dernières années qui veut
que l’équipe qui marque en premier remporte la
rencontre s’est confirmée au Japon. Sur les sept
matches de la compétition, six ont vu la victoire
de l’équipe ayant ouvert la marque.
Il n’y a que lors du match pour la troisième place
où les Urawa Reds ont pu remonter leur but de
retard face à l’Etoile du Sahel et obtenir un 2-2 à
l’issue du temps réglementaire.

Los sistemas de juego se adaptaron según el resul-
tado o las instrucciones del entrenador, y se modi-
ficaron durante el partido en caso necesario.
– 4-5-1 AC Milán

– 3-4-3 Sepahan
Las figuras clave de cada equipo interpretaron
flexiblemente “su rol específico“.
Exigencias a los equipos
Por regla general, en la presente Copa Mundial
de Clubes de la FIFA se pudo observar que los
equipos exitosos
– disponían de jugadores de habilidad excepcional
en las diferentes líneas de formación;
– se hallaban en un impecable estado físico;
– estaban mentalmente preparados para el torneo,
pudiendo aplicar dicha virtud en sus respectivos
partidos;
_ se hallaban en condición de aplicar las
instrucciones de sus respectivos entrenadores;
– contaban con jugadores que podían “leer“ el
partido o decidirlo gracias a su calidad individual
y creatividad.
Poco espacio
También en Japón se pudo constatar que los equi-
pos disponían de una magnífica condición física
y madurez táctica. Particularmente el AC Milán y
el Boca Juniors, pero igualmente el Urawa Reds,
el Pachuca CF y el Etoile Sportive du Sahel inten-
taron ejercer inmediata presión sobre el adversa-
rio que llevaba la pelota y achicar los espacios.
Consecuentemente, los equipos dispusieron de
cada vez menos huecos para armar sus ataques.
Este sistema de juego condujo a que los equipos
que atacaban concibieran sus jugadas con máxima
precaución y apostaran por las genialidades de sus
jugadores creativos.
Otra variante táctica se basó en un sistema de re-
pliegues en profundidad con la intención de lanzar
vertiginosos contraataques una vez recuperado
el esférico.
La importancia del gol de ventaja
La tendencia de los últimos años de que el equipo
que anota el primer tanto gana el encuentro se
volvió a confirmar en Japón. De los partidos dis-
putados, seis fueron ganados por el equipo que
había abierto el tanteador.
Únicamente en el partido por el tercer puesto el
Urawa Reds logró igualar el gol de ventaja del
Etoile Sportive du Sahel y ganar incluso el encuen-
tro tras un empate a dos y el lanzamiento de pe-
nales luego del alargue.

Als weitere taktische Variante zogen sich die Spie-
ler in die eigene Platzhälfte zurück. Dies in der
Absicht, bei Ballrückeroberung schnelle Gegen-
angriffe lancieren zu können.
Die Bedeutung des Führungstreffers
Der Trend der letzten Jahre, dass das Team, das
den Führungstreffer erzielt, auch die Begegnung
gewinnt, bestätigte sich auch in Japan! Von den
insgesamt sieben Spielen gewann sechsmal das in
Führung liegende Team.
Einzig im Spiel um den 3. Rang gelang es den
Urawa Reds, den Führungstreffer von Etoile Spor-
tive du Sahel auszugleichen und nach einem 2:2-
Unentschieden in der regulären Spielzeit das Spiel
für sich zu entscheiden.
Spielsysteme
Die Spielsysteme wurden je nach Resultat oder Vor-
gabe des Trainers umgesetzt und gegebenenfalls
während des Spiels geändert oder angepasst!
Folgende Spielsysteme wurden dabei ange-
wandt:

Anforderungen an die Teams
Generell war bei dieser FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaft
zu beobachten, dass die erfolgreichen Teams
– in allen Mannschaftsteilen technisch über-
durchschnittlich ausgebildet waren;
– über eine hervorragende physische Verfassung
verfügten;
– mental auf das Turnier vorbereitet waren und
das Gelernte in den einzelnen Spielen auch
abrufen konnten;
– die taktischen Vorgaben ihrer Trainer im Spiel
umsetzen konnten;
– Spieler in ihren Reihen hatten, die durch ihre
individuelle Klasse in den entscheidenden
Momenten das Spiel „lesen“ und durch ihre
Kreativität entscheiden konnten.
Wenig Spielraum
Auch in Japan konnte man feststellen, dass die
Teams generell über eine hervorragende Athletik
und taktische Reife verfügten. Insbesondere die
AC Milan und Boca Juniors, aber auch die Urawa
Reds, Pachuca CF und Etoile Sportive du Sahel
versuchten, bei gegnerischem Ballbesitz durch
sofortiges Pressing den ballführenden Spieler un-
ter Druck zu setzen und die Räume eng zu ma-
chen. Als Folge davon stand den Teams bei der
Angriffsauslösung immer weniger Spielraum zur
Verfügung. Diese Spielweise führte dazu, dass die
ballführenden Teams ihre Angriffe sehr vorsichtig
gestalteten und auf Überraschungsmomente ihrer
Kreativspieler setzten.

Trends
“6+5 rule”
The teams also acted in line with the proposed
“6+5” rule during the FIFA Club World Cup Japan
2007. In the final, Boca Juniors lined up with nine
Argentinian players whereas AC Milan had seven
Italians in their team. In the play-off for third place,
Etoile Sportive du Sahel actually began the game
with ten Tunisians compared to the nine Japanese
players in the Urawa Red Diamonds side. Even the
two teams that lost in the quarter-finals, Pachuca
CF and Sepahan, each boasted seven home-grown
players.
Waitakere United were the only exception as they
had five New Zealanders in their line-up. Overall,
however, it was a remarkable record and it should
give other teams an extra incentive to invest in
youth football.
Attacking football
The average of exactly three goals per game easily
surpassed the equivalent figures from 2006 (2.43)
and 2005 (2.71).
In general terms, there were more goals in the
second half (13) than in the first half (8) of matches.
The period between the 61st
and 75th
minute was
the most productive with a total of seven goals.
Another standout statistic was the fact that a total
of ten goals were scored in the final two games.
The six goals in the final between Boca Juniors
and AC Milan paid testimony to the attacking
football philosophy of both coaches, Russo and
Ancelotti.
FIFA’s Technical Study Group selected three
stars blessed with great technique and a fine
understanding of tactics as the tournament’s
top three players, with AC Milan duo Kaká
and Seedorf winning the adidas Golden Ball
and Silver Ball respectively and Boca Juniors’
Palacio claiming the Bronze Ball. Kaká capped
a spectacular tournament by also winning the
Toyota Award.

Le « 6+5 » était respecté de manière particuliè-
rement évidente lors de la Coupe du Monde des
Clubs de la FIFA 2007. Lors de la finale entre le
Milan AC et Boca Juniors, sept Italiens et neuf
Argentins figuraient dans les onzes de départ des
équipes respectives. Lors de la petite finale, entre
l’Etoile Sportive du Sahel et les Urawa Reds il y
avait même dix Tunisiens et neuf Japonais au mo-
ment du coup d’envoi. Les deux équipes éliminées
en quarts de finale, le Pachuca CF et Sepahan,
avaient elles aussi titularisé une grande majorité
de joueurs nationaux : sept.
Avec cinq Néo-Zélandais dans sa formation de dé-
part, l’équipe du Waitakere United était la seule
à ne pas satisfaire à ce critère. Il s’agit d’un point
étonnant, révélateur du fait qu’il faut encore in-
vestir davantage dans la formation.
Football offensif
Avec exactement trois buts par match, les moyen-
nes de 2006 (2,43 buts par match) et 2005 (2,71
buts par match) ont été largement dépassées.
Les secondes périodes étaient plus prolifiques (13
contre 8 en première) et c’est entre les 61e
et 75e
minutes que le plus grand nombre de buts ont
été marqués.
Il convient également de noter que lors de la finale
et du match pour la troisième place, un total de
dix buts a été inscrit. Avec sept buts en finale, il est
aussi possible de conclure que les deux entraîneurs
(Russo et Ancelotti) avaient prôné un football spec-
taculaire et offensif.
Le Groupe d’Etude technique de la FIFA a désigné
Kaká Ballon d’Or adidas (meilleur joueur), Seedorf
Ballon d’Argent (tous deux du Milan AC) et Palacio
Ballon de Bronze (Boca Juniors), trois joueurs doté
d’une excellente technique, d’un grand sens tacti-
que et d’une bonne intelligence de jeu. Le Brésilien
du Milan AC a par ailleurs reçu le Prix Toyota.

“La Regla 6+5“
La “Regla 6+5“ se puso en práctica de manera
consecuente en la Copa Mundial de Clubes de la
FIFA Japón 2007. En la final entre el Boca Juniors
y el AC Milán, salieron a jugar en la alineación
inicial nueve jugadores argentinos y siete italia-
nos. Los equipos que disputaron el partido por
el tercer puesto, el Etoile Sportive du Sahel y el
Urawa Reds, iniciaron con diez tunecinos y nueve
japoneses respectivamente.
De la misma manera, las escuadras eliminadas en
cuartos de final, el Pachuca CF y Sepahan, sal-
taron a la cancha con siete jugadores nacionales
por equipo.
Únicamente el equipo neozelandés Waitakere Uni-
ted no se atuvo a la “Regla“ de cinco jugadores

nacionales en la alineación titular. Ello refleja que
en el futuro se habrá de promocionar más la for-
mación de jugadores de la propia cantera.
Fútbol ofensivo
Con exactamente 3 goles por partido se superó
claramente el promedio del año 2006 (Ø 2.43) y
2005 (Ø 2.71).
Por lo general, se anotaron más goles en el segun-
do tiempo (13 frente a 8 en la primera mitad).
El periodo entre el minuto 61 y el 75 fue el más
prolífico en goles, con 7 tantos.
Cabe señalar que en ambos partidos finales se
anotaron 10 goles. Los seis goles marcados en la
final entre el Boca Juniors y el AC Milán son un
indicio de que ambos técnicos (Russo y Ancelot-
ti) optaron por un fútbol espectacular, de corte
ofensivo.
En la elección de los mejores jugadores del torneo,
el Grupo de Estudio Técnico de la FIFA eligió a
tres jugadores dotados de extraordinaria calidad
técnica y visión de juego, con Kaká (ganador del
Balón de Oro de adidas) y Seedorf del AC Milán,
y en tercer lugar Palacio del Boca Juniors. Ade-
más, Kaká coronó su magnífica actuación con el

sein, in der Zukunft verstärkt in die Nachwuchs-

Offensivfussball
Mit exakt 3 Toren pro Spiel wurden die Vorgaben
der Jahre 2006 (Ø 2,43) und 2005 (Ø 2,71) klar

sind auch ein Indiz dafür, dass beide Trainer (Rus-
so und Ancelotti) einen offensiven, spektakulären
Fussball spielen liessen.
Als beste Spieler des Turniers wählte die technische
Studiengruppe der FIFA mit Kaká (Goldener Ball
von adidas) und Seedorf (Silberner Ball) der AC
Milan sowie Palacio von Boca Juniors (Bronzener
Ball) drei technisch und taktisch hervorragende
Spieler mit grosser Spielintelligenz. Kaká krönte
seine hervorragende Leistung zudem mit dem Ge-
winn des Toyota-Preises.

Play-off for the quarter-finals
SEPAHAN (IRN) v. WAITAKERE UNITED (NZL)
3-1 (2-0)
The opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup
2007 pitted Iran’s Sepahan, runners-up in the AFC
Champions League, against Oceania’s Waitakere
United. The New Zealanders got off to a disastrous
start, however, and conceded two goals in the first
four minutes. The technically astute and tactically
balanced Iranians then went on to score a third
goal shortly after half-time but Waitakere showed
great spirit and scored a consolation goal to make
the final score 3-1.
Quarter-finals
ETOILE SPORTIVE DU SAHEL (TUN) v.
PACHUCA CF (MEX) 1-0 (0-0)
Etoile Sportive du Sahel, the reigning African club
champions, boasted a well-organised defence from
where they launched dangerous counter-attacks.
It was the CONCACAF side that had the greater
share of possession though as they sought to make
the breakthrough by using a short passing game
and dangerous set-piece routines. Yet with the
clock ticking down towards extra-time, it was the
Tunisians who finally broke the deadlock, Ghanaian
midfielder Narry (24) scoring the only goal of the
game to condemn Pachuca CF to an early exit.
SEPAHAN (IRN) v. URAWA RED DIAMONDS (JPN)
1-3 (0-1)
Huge anticipation had built up ahead of the clash
between Sepahan and Urawa Red Diamonds,
mainly because the two teams had recently met
in the final of the AFC Champions League. The
match began at a frenetic pace with the Japanese
trying to impose themselves early on and they
succeeded in dictating the pace of the game,
no doubt bolstered by the vociferous support of
their many fans. Their pressure eventually paid off
when Nagai (9) opened the scoring. Washington
(21) doubled their advantage early in the second
half, leaving the Iranians with no choice but to
push forward in search of a reply. In doing so,
they left themselves open at the back and after
Urawa had made it 3-0, Sepahan striker Karimi
reduced the arrears to make the final score 3-1.

Semi-finals
BOCA JUNIORS (ARG) 0-1 (0-1)
The first semi-final saw Etoile Sportive du Sahel
take on Argentina’s Boca Juniors. The South
Americans, who had travelled to Japan full of
confidence, were quick to take control of the
game, even though they struggled to break down
a compact, well-organised Tunisian defence.
Although they showed greater individual skill and
superior technique, Boca had to wait until shortly
before half-time to take the lead, Cardozo (19)
converting a delightful pass from Palacio (14). The
Argentinians were then reduced to ten men close
to the hour mark, leaving Etoile with numerical
superiority, but they were unable to exploit their
advantage as their only major chance was a diving
header from Silva (17), and in the end it was Boca
Juniors who became the first team to reach the
final.
URAWA RED DIAMONDS (JPN) v. AC MILAN (ITA)
0-1 (0-0)
There was a huge crowd for the match between
the Asian champions and the winners of the
UEFA Champions League. A full-strength AC
Milan team quickly imposed themselves on the
game with Pirlo (21) keeping the tempo high from
central midfield. Seedorf (10) and Kaká (22) were
the game’s standout players, however, linking up
well on numerous occasions. Nevertheless, Milan
needed more than an hour to break down the
Japanese, who were tactically excellent. In the
end, it took a burst down the left from Kaká and
a cool finish from Seedorf to decide the match in
favour of the Italians.
Play-off for third place
URAWA RED DIAMONDS (JPN)
2-2 (1-1) 2-4 on pens
The Tunisians enjoyed a dream start to the play-off
for third place when Frei (13) converted a penalty in
the fifth minute. Urawa Red Diamonds, driven on
once again by their fans, hit back immediately and
pushed Etoile onto the back foot before Brazilian
striker Washington eventually equalised in the 35th
minute. In the second half, Washington struck
again to gave the Japanese the lead but Chermiti
(9), Etoile’s agile and pacy striker, took advantage
of a lapse in concentration in the Urawa defence to
level the score at 2-2. There were no more goals in
normal time so the match went straight to a penalty
shoot-out in accordance with the tournament
regulations and it was Holger Osieck’s team that
prevailed. Urawa finished in third place and also
won the FIFA Fair Play Award, thereby enjoying
the best ever FIFA Club World Cup campaign of
any Asian team to date. Etoile Sportive du Sahel
were well organised in defence and showed great
discipline, hallmarks of any Bertrand Marchand
side, and they too can be delighted with their
impressive fourth-place finish.
Final
BOCA JUNIORS (ARG) v. AC MILAN (ITA)
2-4 (1-1)
The final between the South American and
European representatives proved to be a
fascinating, spectacular match. Boca Juniors,
coached by Miguel Angel Russo, made only one
change to the team that had defeated Etoile
Sportive du Sahel in the semi-final, Vargas (22)
replacing the suspended Gonzalez (15). Milan
coach Carlo Ancelotti did not follow suit, however,
and brought Maldini (3), Inzaghi (9) and Bonera
(25) into the team that had overcome the Urawa
Reds. Inzaghi gave the Europeans the lead in the
21st
minute, slotting home after a pass from Kaká.
Boca Juniors were not behind for long, though,
as Palacio (14) rose highest to score from Morel
Rodriguez’s (9) cross just 60 seconds later. Both
teams then showed excellent technique in trying to
gain a grip on the match with some rapid passing
movements but it was Milan who took the lead
shortly after half-time, Nesta (13) volleying home.
The crucial moment in the match came around the
hour mark with a long-range strike from Ibarra (4)
rattling the Milan post and Kaká breaking away
to give Milan a 3-1 lead. The action was not over,
however, and Inzaghi linked up with Kaká again
to increase Milan’s advantage to 4-1 before Boca
substitute Ledesma (8) made it 4-2 in the 85th
minute.
Boca Juniors impressed with their refreshing
combination play and some exceptional talents
in the shape of Ibarra, Palacio and Banega. In the
end, however, the CONMEBOL representatives
were unable to avoid defeat in the final, losing out
to a superior, balanced AC Milan side. Although
Carlo Ancelotti’s experienced and clever team
played as a unit, they were still able to count on
the class of key players such as Seedorf, Pirlo and
the outstanding Kaká. AC Milan thus became the
first European side to lift the FIFA Club World Cup
following South American triumphs in all three
previous competitions.

Quarts de finale
ETOILE SPORTIVE DU SAHEL (TUN) vs
L’Etoile Sportive du Sahel, vainqueur de la Ligue
des Champions de la CAF, basait son jeu sur une
défense excellemment bien organisée et sur de
rapides contre-attaques. Le représentant de la
CONCACAF avait quant à lui la maîtrise du jeu et
essayait de trouver la faille par des enchaînements
de passes courtes et par de dangereuses combinai-
sons sur coup franc. Alors que les prolongations
semblaient inévitables, le Ghanéen Narry (24) a
inscrit le but de la victoire peu avant la fin, syno-
nyme d’élimination pour le Pachuca CF.

Ce match était teinté d’une rivalité particulière car
Sepahan et les Urawa Reds s’étaient rencontrés il
y a peu en finale de la Ligue des Champions de
l’AFC. Sans round d’observation, les Japonais ont
d’entrée pris l’initiative. Dominateurs et soutenus
par un nombreux public, les Urawa Reds ont réussi
à ouvrir la marque par Nagai (9). L’aggravation du
score par Washington (21) a forcé les Iraniens à
prendre plus de risques ce qui a ouvert des espaces
pour les contre-attaques japonaises. Le troisième
but n’a pas tardé à être inscrit par les Japonais
mais Sepahan a ensuite pu sauver l’honneur par
Karimi (13).
Demi-finales
Cette première demi-finale mettait aux prises les
représentants africain et sud-américain. Venu au
Japon avec de grosses ambitions, Boca Juniors a
d’emblée pris l’initiative sans pour autant parvenir
à prendre à défaut une défense très bien organi-
sée. Malgré leur supériorité technique, les Argen-
tins n’ont pu ouvrir la marque que peu avant la
mi-temps, par l’intermédiaire de Cardozo (19) sur
un excellent service de Palacio (14). A l’heure de
jeu, un joueur de Boca reçut un deuxième avertis-
sement, synonyme d’expulsion, et l’Etoile du Sahel
a pu finir la rencontre en supériorité numérique,
mais sans pour autant parvenir à bousculer Boca
Juniors, sauf sur une dangereuse tête de Silva
(17).
URAWA RED DIAMONDS (JPN) vs AC MILAN (ITA)
0-1 (0-0)
Pour la deuxième demi-finale, le stade de Yoko-
hama accueillait les vainqueurs des Ligues des
Champions de l’UEFA et de l’AFC. Forts de leur
prestigieux effectif, les Milanais prenaient rapide-
ment le contrôle des opérations. Avec Pirlo à la
baguette mais aussi Seedorf (10) et Kaká (22) – les
meilleurs joueurs du match – l’AC Milan domi-
nait mais dut patienter une bonne heure avant de
trouver la faille dans le bloc tactiquement bien en
place des Japonais. Seule une attaque rondement
menée par Kaká sur l’aile gauche permit à Seedorf
de reprendre victorieusement le centre en retrait
du Brésilien et d’emporter la décision.

place

Dès la 5e
minute, les Tunisiens prenaient l’avantage
sur coup franc grâce à Frej (13) mais les Urawa Red
Diamonds, soutenus par un nombreux public, ne
tardaient pas à réagir et à mettre leur adversaire
sous pression, égalisant par Washington à la 35e
minute. C’est ensuite ce même Washington qui
donnait l’avantage aux locaux, avant que le ra-
pide et habile Chermiti (9) ne profite d’une erreur
d’inattention de la défense japonaise et permette
à son équipe de revenir à 2-2. Comme aucun but
n’a plus été marqué lors du temps réglementaire,
c’est directement la séance des tirs au but qui,
conformément au règlement de la compétition,
allait départager les deux équipes. Les hommes
d’Holger Osieck se montraient alors plus adroit et
l’emportaient. En plus du prix du fair-play, cette
troisième place récompensait une équipe très com-
bative et bien en place tactiquement. C’est aussi le
meilleur résultat obtenu par une équipe asiatique
dans cette compétition. L’Etoile Sportive du Sahel,
disciplinée et bien organisée défensivement sous
la houlette de Bertrand Marchand, n’avait pas non
plus à rougir de cette quatrième place.
Finale
BOCA JUNIORS (ARG) vs AC MILAN (ITA)
2-4 (1-1)
La finale entre les représentants européen et sud-
américain était un match des plus spectaculaires.
L’équipe de Miguel Angel Russo s’est présentée
dans la même composition que contre l’Etoile du
Sahel à l’exception de Gonzalez (15) qui remplaçait
Vargas (22), suspendu. A l’inverse, Carlo Ancelotti
modifiait l’équipe qu’il avait alignée en demi-finale
contre les Urawa Reds et titularisait Maldini (3),
Inzaghi (9) et Bonera (25). Sur un bon service de
Kaká, Inzaghi ouvrait la marque à la 21e
minute.
Mais la réponse de Boca Juniors ne tarda pas :
Palacio (14) se trouvait à la réception d’un centre
de Morel Rodriguez (3) et marquait le but éga-
lisateur à peine une minute plus tard. Les deux
équipes montraient alors leur haut niveau tech-
nique et cherchaient à déstabiliser leur adversaire
au moyen de rapides enchaînements. Peu après
la reprise, Nesta (13) redonnait l’avantage aux
rossoneri. Le tournant du match allait intervenir
à l’heure de jeu lorsqu’Ibarra (4) vit une de ses
puissantes frappes s’échouer sur la base du poteau
milanais. Dans l’action qui suivit, Kaká parvenait
en revanche à marquer le but du 3-1 et à sceller
le sort du match, peu avant qu’Inzaghi ne corse
l’adition (4-1) au terme d’une belle action avec ce
même Kaká. Le but de Ledesma (8) à la 85e
minute
n’allait rien changer.
Boca Juniors a pratiqué un football frais et enlevé
avec notamment des joueurs d’exception comme
Ibarra, Palacio et Banega. Le représentant de la
CONMEBOL n’a toutefois rien pu faire en finale
face une équipe de Milan nettement supérieure,
car plus équilibrée. Très rôdée et très expérimentée,
l’équipe de Carlo Ancelotti jouait en bloc et comp-
tait dans ses rangs des joueurs au-dessus du lot
comme Seedorf, Pirlo et Kaká, capables de faire la
différence à tout moment. Après que les trois pre-
mières éditions de la Coupe du Monde des Clubs
de la FIFA eurent été remportées par un club sud-
américain, les Milanais sont parvenus à rapporter
le trophée pour la première fois en Europe.

al inicio del segundo tiempo Washington (21) su-
bió a 2-0 el marcador, los iraníes arriesgaron más,
creando así mayores espacios para los contragolpes
japoneses. Tras el tercer tanto nipón, el ariete Karimi
(13) del Sepahan logró una corrección cosmética del
marcador, concluyendo el encuentro 3 a 1.
Semifinales
ETOILE SPORTIVE DU SAHEL (TUN) –
En la primera semifinal se enfrentaron Etoile Spor-
tive du Sahel y Boca Juniors de Argentina. Los ar-
gentinos, que arribaron con grandes ambiciones,
asumieron inmediatamente la batuta. Sin embargo,
les resultó prácticamente imposible superar la her-
mética y compacta defensa tunecina. No obstante,
gracias a la calidad individual de sus jugadores y
su extraordinaria habilidad técnica, el Boca logró
abrir el tanteador por intermedio de Cardozo (19)
sobre perfecto pase de Palacio (14) en los compases
finales del primer tiempo. Tras media hora de juego
en la segunda parte, un jugador argentino fue ex-
pulsado a consecuencia de su segunda tarjeta ama-
rilla, pudiendo el Etoile Sportive du Sahel jugar con
superioridad numérica. Sin embargo, exceptuando
un poderoso cabezazo de Silva (17), los tunecinos
no lograron inquietar a los argentinos, que se cla-

Clubes de la FIFA 2007 se enfrentaron el equipo
iraní Sepahan, en calidad de segundo de la Liga de
Campeones de Asia, y el Waitakere United, repre-
sentante de Oceanía. El Sepahan sorprendió malpa-
rado al conjunto de Oceanía, subiendo dos tantos
madrugadores al marcador en los primeros cuatro
minutos del cotejo. Instantes después del reinicio
del segundo tiempo, el cuadro iraní – más técnico
y más táctico – aumentó la diferencia anotando el
3 a 0 prácticamente decisivo. No obstante, la gran
entrega y garra de los neozelandeses condujo al gol
de honor, cerrándose el tanteador 3 a 1.
Cuartos de final
Etoile Sportive du Sahel, ganador del Campeona-
to Africano de Clubes, armó su juego sobre una
defensa óptimamente organizada y peligrosísimos
despliegues de contraataque. El representante de
la CONCACAF, por su parte, buscó el éxito me-
diante combinaciones de pases cortos y peligrosos
tiros libres. A pocos minutos del final del encuentro
y cuando ya se vivía la inminencia de un alargue,
los tunecinos lograron abrir el marcador por inter-
medio de su centrocampista ghanés Narry (24),
asegurándose la victoria y eliminando al Pachuca
CF del torneo.

El conjunto tunecino tuvo un inicio prometedor
tras el gol de penal de Frej (13) en el minuto cinco.
Empujado por sus hinchas, el Urawa Reds intentó
reaccionar inmediatamente y puso bajo presión al
once de Etoile Sportive du Sahel. El ariete brasi-
leño Washington del cuadro japonés consiguió la
paridad en el minuto 35, y logró anotar incluso el
gol de ventaja en el segundo tiempo. Chermiti (9),
el ágil y veloz atacante del representativo africano,
aprovechó un desentendimiento en la defensa ja-
ponesa para igualar el tanteador 2 a 2. Como este
encuentro emocionante y espectacular finalizara
en empate tras el tiempo de juego efectivo, en vir-
tud del reglamento del torneo se pasó de inmedia-
to a la tanda de penales, imponiéndose finalmente
la escuadra del técnico Holger Osieck. Con el tercer
puesto y la adjudicación del trofeo Fair Play de la
FIFA, el Urawa Reds logró, gracias a su madurez
táctica y gran espíritu de equipo, la mejor posición
jamás obtenida por una escuadra asiática en este
torneo. Asimismo, el Etoile Sportive du Sahel, que
destacó por una perfecta organización defensiva
y gran disciplina de equipo –reflejo de la dirección
del entrenador Bertrand Marchand–, alcanzó un
notable resultado con el cuarto puesto.

BOCA JUNIORS (ARG) – AC MILÁN (ITA)
2-4 (1-1)
El partido entre los representantes de Sudamérica y
Europa fue un encuentro magnífico y espectacular.
El conjunto boquense, dirigido por Miguel Ángel
Russo, presentó la misma alineación que ante el
Etoile Sportive du Sahel, a excepción de Gonzá-
lez (15), quien reemplazó al suspendido Vargas
(22). En cambio, el entrenador del Milán, Carlo
Ancelotti, incluyó con Maldini (3), Inzaghi (9) y
Bonera (25) a tres nuevos jugadores con respecto a
la formación titular utilizada frente al Urawa Reds.
Tras un preciso pase de Kaká, Inzaghi adelantó
en el marcador al representante de la UEFA en el
minuto 21. Sin embargo, el Boca Juniors reaccionó
instantáneamente y, apenas un minuto más tar-
de, igualaba el tanteador, merced al empalme de
Palacio (14) sobre el centro de Morel Rodríguez
(3). Ambos elencos hicieron gala de su alta téc-
nica, intentando sorprender a su rival con veloces
combinaciones de ataque. Instantes después del
inicio del segundo tiempo, Nesta (13) adelantó
nuevamente a los milaneses. La jugada clave del
encuentro provino tras aproximadamente una
hora de juego el estrellar Ibarra (4) un violento
remate de distancia en el poste, logrando Kaká
conectar el rebote para concretar el 3 a 1 italiano
tras una vistosa acción individual. Poco después,
Inzaghi anotaba incluso el 4 a 1 luego de una
combinación con Kaká, y el Boca Juniors remon-
taba el marcador en el minuto 85 por intermedio
del suplente Ledesma (8), sellando el resultado
final de 4 a 2 a favor de los milaneses.
El conjunto de Boca Juniors hizo gala de un fútbol
de combinaciones muy atractivo y de figuras ex-
cepcionales tales como Ibarra, Palacio y Banega.
Sin embargo, el representativo de la CONMEBOL
no estuvo en condición de superar a un Milán cla-
ramente superior en este día, dotado de un elenco
perfectamente equilibrado y compacto. La experi-
mentada escuadra de Carlo Ancelotti se presentó
como una sólida unidad, en la cual destacaron
individualidades fuera de serie como Seedorf, Pir-
lo y el extraordinario Kaká. Así, después de que

Im Eröffnungsspiel der FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaft
2007 standen sich das iranische Team aus Sepahan
als unterlegener Finalist der Champions League
Asiens und Waitakere United als Vertreter Ozeani-
ens gegenüber. Das Spiel begann sehr ernüchternd
für die Neuseeländer, da diese nach vier Minuten
bereits 0:2 zurücklagen. Dem technisch stärkeren
und taktisch ausgewogenen Team aus Sepahan ge-
lang kurz nach Wiederbeginn der zweiten Halbzeit
das vorentscheidende 3:0. Immerhin gelang den
mit grossem kämpferischem Einsatz spielenden
Neuseeländern noch der Ehrentreffer zum 1:3.
Viertelfinale
PACHUCA CF (MEX) 1:0 (0:0)
Etoile Sportive du Sahel, der Gewinner der afrika-
nischen Klubmeisterschaft, spielte aus einer aus-
gezeichnet organisierten Abwehr heraus und lan-
cierte gefährliche Gegenangriffe. Demgegenüber
hatte der CONCACAF-Vertreter mehr Spielanteile
und versuchte mittels Kurzpassspiel und gefähr-
lichen Freistossvarianten zum Erfolg zu kommen.
Als vieles schon auf eine Verlängerung hindeute-
te, gelang den Tunesiern durch ihren ghanaischen
Mittelfeldspieler Narry (24) kurz vor Schluss der
Siegtreffer, der gleichzeitig das vorzeitige Aus-
scheiden für Pachuca CF bedeutete.

Die Partie war von besonderer Brisanz, weil Se-
pahan und die Urawa Reds schon kurz zuvor im
Finale der AFC Champions League gegeneinander
spielten. Das Spiel begann sehr schwungvoll. Die
Japaner versuchten sofort, die Initiative zu über-
nehmen. Dabei gelang es den Urawa Reds, die
während des ganzen Turniers auf die lautstarke
Unterstützung ihrer zahlreichen Fans zählen durf-
ten, das Spieldiktat zu übernehmen. Aus dieser
Überlegenheit resultierte schliesslich der Führungs-
treffer durch Nagai (9). Als zu Beginn der zweiten
Halbzeit Washington (21) den Treffer zum 2:0 er-
zielte, mussten die Iraner mehr Risiken eingehen
und den Japanern mehr Raum für Gegenangriffe
gewähren. Nach dem zwischenzeitlichen dritten
Treffer für Urawa Reds gelang Sepahans Stürmer
Karimi (13) der Ehrentreffer zum 1:3-Endstand.
Halbfinale
BOCA JUNIORS (ARG) 0:1 (0:1)
Im ersten Halbfinalspiel traf Etoile Sportive du Sa-
hel auf Boca Juniors aus Argentinien. Die mit gros-
sen Ambitionen angereisten Südamerikaner über-
nahmen sofort die Initiative, fanden aber kaum ein
Durchkommen gegen die sehr kompakt stehende
und gut organisierte tunesische Abwehr. Trotz ihrer
individuellen Klasse und hervorragenden Technik
gelang Boca Juniors das Führungstor durch Car-
dozo (19) auf ein präzises Zuspiel von Palacio (14)
erst kurz vor der Pause. Nach einer guten Stunde
Spielzeit sah ein Argentinier die gelb-rote Karte,
worauf Etoile Sportive du Sahel in Überzahl spielen
konnte. Mit Ausnahme eines Flugkopfballs von
Silva (17) konnten die Tunesier aber Boca Juniors
nicht mehr in Bedrängnis bringen. Die Südamerika-
ner erreichten somit als erstes Team das Finale.
URAWA RED DIAMONDS (JPN) – AC MILAN (ITA)

Vor einer grossartigen Kulisse kam es in Yokoha-
ma zum Aufeinandertreffen zwischen dem Asien-
meister und dem Sieger der UEFA Champions
League. Die mit allen Stars angetretenen Mailänder
übernahmen sofort das Spieldiktat und versuchten
mit Pirlo (21) als Schaltzentrale im Mittelfeld, das
Spiel schnell zu machen. Seedorf (10) und Kaká
(22) waren die Ausnahmekönner in dieser Partie
und spielten sehenswerte Ballstafetten. Dennoch
gelang es der AC Milan über eine Stunde nicht,
die taktisch hervorragend eingestellten Japaner zu

überwinden. Erst ein rasch durch Kaká vorgetra-
gener Angriff auf der linken Seite, dessen Reingabe
durch Seedorf mustergültig abgeschlossen wurde,
brachte die Entscheidung in diesem Spiel.
Spiel um den 3. Platz
2:2 (1:1) 2:4 nach Elfmeterschiessen
Dem Team aus Tunesien gelang durch einen Straf-
stosstreffer in der 5. Minute von Frej (13) ein Start
nach Mass. Die Urawa Reds, angetrieben von ihren
Fans, versuchten sofort zu reagieren und setzten
das Team von Etoile Sportive du Sahel entsprechend
unter Druck. Dem brasilianischen Stürmer Washing-
ton gelang dann auch in der 35. Minute der Aus-
gleich. In der zweiten Halbzeit brachte wiederum
Washington die Japaner in Führung. Chermiti (9),
der agile und schnelle Angreifer des Afrika-Vertre-
ters, nutzte eine Unachtsamkeit in der japanischen
Verteidigung und erzielte das 2:2. Da in dieser un-
terhaltsamen Partie in der regulären Spielzeit kei-
ne weiteren Tore ﬁelen, kam es reglementsgemäss
sofort zum Elfmeterschiessen. Dabei konnte sich
das Team von Holger Osieck durchsetzen. Mit dem
3. Rang und dem Gewinn der Fairplay-Wertung
gelang den Urawa Reds, die durch taktische Reife
und grosse Einsatzbereitschaft zu gefallen wussten,
das bisher beste Resultat eines asiatischen Teams
in diesem Wettbewerb. Etoile Sportive du Sahel,
das sowohl durch seine gute Organisation in der
Defensive als auch seiner Spieldisziplin wegen die
Handschrift von Trainer Bertrand Marchand offen-
barte, konnte mit dem vierten Rang ebenfalls ein
beachtliches Resultat erzielen.

Das Finale zwischen den Vertretern Südamerikas
und Europas war ein ausgezeichnetes und spekta-
kuläres Spiel! Das Team von Miguel Angel Russo
trat mit Ausnahme von Gonzalez (15), der den ge-
sperrten Vargas (22) ersetzte, mit der gleichen Auf-
stellung wie im Spiel gegen Etoile Sportive du Sahel
auf. Demgegenüber brachte Milans Trainer Carlo
Ancelotti im Vergleich zum Halbﬁnale gegen die
Urawa Reds mit Maldini (3), Inzaghi (9) und Bonera
(25) drei neue Spieler. Auf Zuspiel von Kaká gelang
Inzaghi in der 21. Minute der Führungstreffer für
den UEFA-Vertreter. Die Antwort von Boca Juniors
liess aber nicht lange auf sich warten: Bereits eine
Minute später gelang Palacio (14) auf Flankenball
von Morel Rodriguez (3) der Ausgleichstreffer. Bei-
de Teams zeigten ihr hohes technisches Niveau und
versuchten, den Gegner durch schnelles Kombi-
nationsspiel zu überraschen. Kurz nach Wieder-
aufnahme der zweiten Halbzeit gelang Nesta (13)
die erneute Führung für die Mailänder. Die Schlüs-
selszene des Spiels folgte nach rund einer Stunde
Spielzeit, als Ibarra (4) mit seinem Weitschuss nur
den Pfosten traf und Kaká praktisch im Gegenzug
durch eine feine Einzelleistung das 3:1 gelang.
Nachdem Inzaghi wiederum ein Zusammenspiel
mit Kaká zum 4:1 abschliessen konnte, erzielte der
kurz zuvor eingewechselte Ledesma (8) in der 85.
Minute das Tor zum 2:4-Schlussstand.
Die Boca Juniors zeigten einen erfrischenden
Kombinationsfussball und hatten mit Spielern wie
Ibarra, Palacio und Banega Ausnahmekönner in
ihrem Team. Der CONMEBOL-Vertreter konnte
aber die Finalniederlage nicht abwenden, da die
Mailänder an diesem Tag das klar bessere, weil
ausgeglichener besetzte Team stellten. Die sehr
erfahrene und abgeklärte Mannschaft von Carlo
Ancelotti trat als Einheit auf, die in Seedorf, Pirlo
und dem überragenden Kaká auch spielbestim-
mende Einzelkönner in ihren Reihen hatte. Nach-
dem die ersten drei FIFA Klub-Weltmeisterschaften
jeweils durch südamerikanische Teams gewonnen
wurden, gelang es den Mailändern nun erstmals,
den Titel nach Europa zu bringen!
