The document provides details on the production process for developing a magazine masthead and front cover image. It describes the student's initial ideas for a masthead called "Hoops" inspired by jewelry. After receiving feedback, the student experimented with different fonts and styles before settling on "QUEEN" with a reversed "E". Photos were edited in Photoshop to feature hip hop elements and refined over multiple iterations. Layout ideas incorporated research on magazine design conventions to produce a professional finished product.
The document discusses plans for a magazine cover aimed at empowering young female hip-hop audiences. It will be called "QUEEN" to empower women, unlike the magazine "KING" which portrays women as sexually objectified. The masthead design will feature a reversed "E" like Eminem's album cover to make it bold and distinctive. The main cover image will show an attractive female hip-hop artist to inspire the target audience. Cover lines will use different fonts and colors to advertise music, gossip, and contests in a way that interests the target readership.
This document discusses a case study using community digital storytelling (CDST) to engage residents in two locations. CDST involved recruiting participants, interviewing them, holding story circles, creative workshops, and sharing the digital stories. Tables show participation rates by age group. The study found issues around homophily and power relations that a matrix approach combining CDST, community deliberation, and community learning could help address. This combines participatory techniques, assessment, planning, reflection, and choice of engagement methods.
Senior public relations students at Cal State Northridge collaborated to create and implement a strategic social media plan for Sundial Media Solutions.
The document discusses techniques used to attract and address a target young female audience for a magazine. The techniques included:
1) Choosing a bold font color for the masthead to draw attention rather than a more feminine serif font based on student feedback.
2) Including images of females depicted positively in on-trend clothing to appeal to the target readership.
3) Featuring a main image of a model in front of a graffitied background to connote hip-hop culture appealing to the target audience.
4) Addressing the audience using colloquial terminology to make the text seem genuine and appeal to readers.
The document discusses revising the masthead for a magazine. The previous masthead name "hoops" did not effectively convey that the magazine was for women. The new proposed masthead name is "Queen" to represent the feminist perspective and female audience. Design considerations for the new masthead include using attractive colors and possibly adding a crown icon to the "Q" to reinforce the name and make it more eye-catching.

This document describes four different formats for distributing content from Studio One Networks to a partner publisher's website: Iframe, Cobrand, FTP Index, and XML. It provides descriptions of each format and outlines their benefits, challenges, and technical requirements. The Iframe and Cobrand formats require minimal technical setup but give less editorial control, while the FTP Index and XML formats give more editorial control over content placement at the cost of higher technical requirements.
The document discusses plans for the design of a magazine cover aimed at inspiring young female hip-hop audiences. It analyzes existing hip-hop magazines that mainly target men and objectify women. The author intends to create a magazine that empowers women through positive representation. Design elements discussed include the masthead "QUEEN", a reversal of the letter "E" inspired by Eminem album art, a main image of a dressed woman related to hip-hop, and attention-grabbing cover lines using different fonts and colors. The goal is to attract the target audience through distinctive visual elements that reflect the magazine's message.
The student struggled with using Photoshop and InDesign in their media texts, having issues with images and text disappearing when placed too close together in InDesign. Through working on the preliminary task, they learned to use layers more efficiently in InDesign. They are most proud of their contents page created in InDesign, which they based on a template from Vibe magazine, though acknowledge their lack of experience means it may not look as professional. To present evidence and research, they used SlideShare and Prezi to post PowerPoint presentations and embed them on their blog to make the content more accessible and attractive to read.
