1. Un jour, le soleil et le vent se
chamaillaient pour savoir qui
d’entre eux était le plus fort.
Le vent s’exclama: “Je vais
prouver que c’est moi. Tu
vois ce vieil homme en bas
avec son manteau ? Je parie
que je peux le lui faire enlever
plus vite que toi. »
One day the sun and the wind
quarreled about which was the
stronger. The wind said, “I’ll
prove I am. See that old man
down there with a coat? I bet I
can make him take his coat off
quicker than you can.”
2. Le soleil se cacha donc derrière
un nuage et le vent souffla,
souffla jusqu’à ressembler à une
tornade. Mais plus le vent
soufflait, plus le vieil homme
s’emmitouflait dans son
manteau.
So the sun went behind a cloud and
the wind blew until it was almost a
tornado, but the harder it blew, the
tighter the old man wrapped his coat
about him.
3. Finalement le vent s’apaisa et
abandonna la partie ; le soleil
fit alors son apparition et
sourit aimablement au vieux
monsieur. Du coup, celui-ci
s’essuya le front et ôta son
manteau. Le soleil démontra
ainsi au vent que la gentillesse
et l’amabilité étaient toujours
plus fort que la colère et la
force.
Finally the wind calmed down and
gave up; and then the sun came
out from behind the cloud and
smiled kindly on the old man.
Presently, the man mopped his
brow and pulled off his coat. The
sun then told the wind that
gentleness and friendliness were
always stronger than fury
and force.
