The concept that emerges very strongly from a series that failed, "Hunters," is that the Jews are a chosen people of God and that as such they escape any common law of humanity. This concept is particularly questionable. Either the God of the Jews is the God ONLY of the Jews and not of humanity, which implies in a creationist perspective which posits in each monotheistic religion (perhaps not only) a God creator of the universe, that this universe has several creator Gods, which promises serious conflicts between followers of different religions. From a globalizing perspective, all men are equal in and through their differences. Differences do not create inequalities because differences are identificatory and men can only be equal in and through their identities. This implies that any discriminatory approach must be rejected. Ce concept est particulièrement discutable. Soit le Dieu des Juifs n’est le Dieu QUE des juifs et non de l’humanité, ce qui implique dans une perspective créationniste qui pose dans chaque religion monothéiste (peut-être pas seulement) un Dieu créateur de l’univers, que cet univers a plusieurs Dieux créateurs, ce qui promet de sérieux conflits entre les adeptes des différentes religions. Dans une perspective globalisante tous les hommes sont égaux dans et par leurs différences. Les différences ne créent pas des inégalités car les différences sont identificatoires et les hommes ne peuvent être égaux que dans et par leurs identités. Cela implique que toute approche discriminatoire doit être rejetée.

2. RENIA SPIEGEL – RENIA’S DIARY, a
HOLOCAUST JOURNAL – 2019
This book is surprising. It is the diary of a young woman, in fact, a teenager aged 15 to 18, starting on
January 31, 1939, and ending on July 31, 1942. In the beginning, the war was looming up in Europe and it
was declared when Germany and Russia changed the frontiers of Poland, and the eastern part went to the
USSR and the western part went to Germany. Great Britain and France declared war on Germany on
September 3, 1939. Renia was living in the eastern part of Poland at the time, her mother was in Warsaw,
and her father was in another town. For them, the war would only start when Germany decided to attack the
USSR on June 22, 1941.
The first aspect of the book is the story of a young woman, in fact, a late teenager confronted with
schooling, with the university in perspective, meaning that we are in a rather well-off family. Jewish of course
with Jewish people around, but no real ghetto, though the schools are probably segregated. Renia Spiegel
never specifies such details. This by far longer part of the book, is thus entirely centered on school, activities
around school, and love desires from the sole point of view of a woman for a man. The narrative is extremely
feminine, even at times naïve about what love is, though there seems to be a dominant desire to BE “loved,”
“taken care of,” “touched or even caressed,” and at the end, we can wonder if Renia and her boyfriend Zyguś
actually have some sexual intercourse.
Then, sometime in the second half of 1941, there is a slow and light change that takes place in the tone
of the story. The war is coming close and that will mean the invasion of this region by Germany, meaning
Nazi Germany. Fear of ghettoization and deportation is starting to loom high. At the end of the diary, Renia
speaks of boys who are deported, brought together, and taken away by what appears to be the Gestapo but
with the collaboration of some Jewish police when the ghetto is imposed and closed up, under the threat of

3. death if you try to get out without a proper pass. Renia speaks of one instance of 1,260 boys rounded up and
taken away. “There are many victims, fathers, mothers, brothers. The sea of our blood is red, forgive us our
trespasses, listen to us, Lord God! This was a terrible night, too terrible to describe.” (p. 260) The end is
apparently the execution of three people. It ends with three shots in the close-by distance. But there is very
little description of what is really happening. Everything is contained in the rather closing up mind of the
young woman. That is in many ways surprising but yet normal because in such a situation the normal
reaction is to lock up oneself and exclude what is dangerous in the immediate environment. Renia lives a lot
as if nothing had changed, or nearly nothing, or so little that it can be neglected, and then the end of this
short period, the end of this diary is brutally abrupt, and apart from the three shots, we don’t really know what
is happening. That reveals a high level of cautious and prudent detachment from the events that are thus
kept outside, the ghetto becoming something like a nest or a cocoon. “But Zyguś was here, my sweet one,
sweet and loving.” (page 260)
This sure is an interesting book about the period, and frightfully worrying in this December 2023.

Ce livre est surprenant. C'est le journal d'une jeune femme, en fait une adolescente âgée de 15 à 18
ans, commençant le 31 janvier 1939 et se terminant le 31 juillet 1942. Au début, la guerre se profilait en
Europe et elle fut déclarée lorsque l’Allemagne et la Russie ont changé les frontières de la Pologne, et la
partie orientale est revenue à l’URSS et la partie occidentale à l’Allemagne. La Grande-Bretagne et la
France ont déclaré la guerre à l'Allemagne le 3 septembre 1939. Renia vivait à l'époque dans l'est de la
Pologne, sa mère était à Varsovie et son père dans une autre ville. Pour eux, la guerre ne commencerait
que lorsque l’Allemagne déciderait d’attaquer l’URSS le 22 juin 1941.
Le premier aspect du livre est l'histoire d'une jeune femme, en fait une adolescente avancée en âge
confrontée à la scolarité, avec l'université en perspective, ce qui veut dire qu'on est dans une famille plutôt
aisée. Juive bien sûr avec des Juifs autour, mais pas de véritable ghetto, même si les écoles sont
probablement ségréguées. Renia Spiegel ne précise jamais de tels détails. Cette partie du livre, bien plus
longue, est donc entièrement centrée sur l'école, les activités autour de l'école et les désirs amoureux du
seul point de vue d'une femme pour un homme. Le récit est extrêmement féminin, voire parfois naïf sur ce
qu'est l'amour, même s'il semble y avoir un désir dominant d'ÊTRE « aimée », « prise en charge »,
« touchée ou même caressée », et à la fin, on peut se demander si Renia et son petit ami Zyguś ont une
vraie relation sexuelle.
Puis, dans la seconde moitié de 1941, un changement lent et léger se produit dans le ton de l’histoire.
La guerre approche et cela signifiera l’invasion de cette région par l’Allemagne, c’est-à-dire l’Allemagne
nazie. La peur de la ghettoïsation et de la déportation commence à se faire sentir. A la fin du journal, Renia
parle de garçons déportés, rassemblés et emmenés par ce qui semble être la Gestapo mais avec la
collaboration de quelques policiers juifs lorsque le ghetto est imposé et fermé, sous la menace de mort. si
vous essayez de sortir sans un laissez-passer approprié. Renia parle d'un cas où 1 260 garçons ont été
arrêtés et emmenés. « Il y a beaucoup de victimes, des pères, des mères, des frères. La mer de notre sang
est rouge, pardonne-nous nos offenses, écoute-nous, Seigneur Dieu ! Ce fut une nuit terrible, trop terrible
pour être décrite. » (p. 260) La fin est apparemment l'exécution de trois personnes. Cela se termine par trois
coups de feu à une courte distance du locuteur. Mais il y a très peu de descriptions de ce qui se passe
réellement. Tout est contenu dans l'esprit qui plutôt se referme sur lui-même de la jeune femme. C'est à bien
des égards surprenant mais néanmoins normal car dans une telle situation la réaction normale est de
s'enfermer et d'exclure ce qui est dangereux dans l'environnement immédiat. Renia vit beaucoup comme si
rien n'avait changé, ou presque, ou si peu qu'on peut le négliger, et puis la fin de cette courte période, la fin
de ce journal est brutalement abrupte, et à part les trois coups de feu, on ne sait pas vraiment ce qui se
passe. Cela révèle un haut niveau de détachement prudent et circonspect par rapport aux événements qui
sont ainsi maintenus à l'extérieur, le ghetto devenant une sorte de nid ou de cocon. "Mais Zyguś était là,
mon chéri, doux et aimant." (page 260)
Voilà certainement un livre intéressant sur cette période, et terriblement d’actualité en décembre 2023.
