Ndedi
Copyright Reserved ©
IME
Introduction
Welcome to the Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, for the 3rd Year programme: Project Management and Entrepreneurship, for the course ‘Competencies and Aptitudes needed for An Entrepreneur’. During the first semester, you were assessed on project management, marketing and law courses. During this semester, however, it is one step further in the exciting field of entrepreneurship with this course on competencies and aptitudes needed for an entrepreneur. Be assured, you will learn more with this lecture!
This Learner Guide is intended to assist a learner in understanding the scope of the module and his/ her commitments required to pass the module.
The Learner Guide is a contract between the Institute and the learner with the Institute being represented by the Lecturer. As you know by now, you will be regarded as adult learners and treated as such. Your lecturer will perform the role as your learning facilitator, to enable you to achieve the learning outcomes of this module.
The theory will serve to provide you with background principles and understanding. To enable you to evaluate and apply these principles in an experiential mode it will be expected of you to apply these in certain ways. This means that if you do not prepare the theory beforehand you will be seriously disadvantaged regarding achieving the learning outcomes. You will be assessed on both theory and application, in tests and examinations with a stronger emphasis on application, as the approach is career oriented. There is no text book. However, handouts and test scripts will only be handed out in class and not on an individual basis.
Ensure that Administration have your correct contact details as the Institute will not take responsibility if you cannot be contacted to inform you of any changes that might affects you. Please ensure that your name appears on the official class list and that you are correctly registered.
Good Luck!
Important terminology
Within this learning guide the following terminology may be used. It is used to provide information about a student’s level of competence (i.e. pass or fail) on completion of a theme or sub-unit in a module, a module or a learning programme. IME Learning Guide 3 entrepreneurship

 • 1. IME
LEARNING GUIDE
SUBJECT MERGEFORMAT
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
3rd YEAR
MODULE CODE EP 307
ACADEMIC YEAR
2011
Compiled by
Alain A.
Should you not understand any terminology within this learning guide, please consult your Lecturer.
LearnerA registered IME LearnerAssessor (Lecturer)The term assessor refers to the practitioner who will be responsible for the assessment of the achievement of learning outcomes. The assessor is the academic staff member or practitioner (also referred to as learning facilitator, teacher and lecturer) who teaches a module and is responsible for designing, implementing and marking student assessments, for recording the results and for providing feedback to the students. Assessors can also be workplace supervisors, managers, team leaders or designated community leaders, provided that they are skilled in the process of assessment.Assessment Judging the degree to which a learner has met predetermined criteria. Learners must show that they can do certain tasks in a prescribed way and that they know the context of the task and why it must be performed in a certain way.Formative AssessmentFormative assessment is not used to determine whether a student passes or fails (i.e. for judgment purposes). Formative assessment takes place during the process of teaching and learning and which has its purpose the progressive development of the student’s competence. Formative assessment refers to frequent or ongoing assessments during a module or learning programme that give early indications of what and how effective students are learning, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Formative assessment is often used as a diagnostic tool because it provides information with which to make real-time improvements in teaching methods, course materials and activities.Summative AssessmentSummative assessment is for making a judgment about the achievement of a student. It is used to provide information about a student’s level of competence (i.e. pass or fail) on completion of a theme or sub-unit in a module, a module or a learning programme. Summative assessment is done on a continuous basis and is not confined to a written examination.Integrated AssessmentThe following definitions and descriptions of integrated assessment are presented to present explore the different aspects of the concept. Integrated assessment is implemented by doing the following:Assessing a number of outcomes or assessment criteria together Assessing foundational competence (i.e. knowledge of underpinning theories, etc.), practical competence (i.e. application of knowledge) and reflective competence (i.e. reflection on own performance and the ability to apply knowledge in new contexts) Assessing a number of modules together Using a combination of assessment methods
Subject Orientation
To enable the learner to progress meaningful with CAPABILITIES AND CAPACITIES NEEDED FOR AN ENTREPRENEUR the subject is presented in a 2 weeks mode over one full semester.
Assessment
Each assessment as determined by your lecturer contributes to the total on a weighted basis. The marks obtained per assessment are accumulated and combined to give a final and total mark for the module. Weighting of the assessment means that a factor is applied to each result in accordance with the importance of the unit.
Weights per assessment in this module will be as follows:
NoAssessmentWeight1Closed Book Assessment50%2Final Assessment (Exam)50%
The semester or modular mark (Formative Assessment mark) contributes 50% to the final mark and the final assessment (Summative Assessment mark) contributes 50% to the final mark.
Please consult your work schedule within this learning guide. Make sure that you know when, on what work, what type of assessment method will be used and the criteria you will be evaluated against.
Reassessment
There will only be one summative re-assessment for this module as per the IME assessment policy. The Reassessment is a once off FINAL opportunity which will not be repeated.
Re-mark of an assessment will not be allowed after publication of the final summative result
Appeals Procedure
After the final marks for an assessment are made known, and the learner is reasonably unsatisfied with the mark, the learner may request an explanation from the lecturer.
Written requests for an explanation of the allocation of final marks in any summative assessment opportunity must be made to the Director within 2 days after publication of the result. No assessment material (for example, answer scripts or portfolios) or copies thereof may be provided to the student after such explanatory discussion if such material would not otherwise have been returned to the student.
Lecturer
Your lecturer for this module is:
LecturerRoom NoContact DetailsAlain NdediRoom XXXIME BuildingCell: 96463013Email: 20012an@gmail.com
2.5 Departmental Administration
You can contact the Department of Entrepreneurship by:
Job TitleNameRoom NoContact NoSecretaryMrs XXXIME Building

2.6 CONTACT SESSIONS
Lectures are conducted in French (English may be used if necessary especially your handouts!).
Contact sessions are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
All contact sessions start at 08:30 sharp.
