Simplifying Distributed Transactions with Sagas in Kafka (Stephen Zoio, Simpl...confluent
Microservices are seen as the way to simplify complex systems, until you need to coordinate a transaction across services, and in that instant, the dream ends. Transactions involving multiple services can lead to a spaghetti web of interactions. Protocols such as two-phase commit come with complexity and performance bottlenecks. The Saga pattern involves a simplified transactional model. In sagas, a sequence of actions are executed, and if any action fails, a compensating action is executed for each of the actions that have already succeeded. This is particularly well suited to long-running and cross-microservice transactions. In this talk we introduce the new Simple Sagas library (https://github.com/simplesourcing/simplesagas). Built using Kafka streams, it provides a scalable fault tolerance event-based transaction processing engine. We walk through a use case of coordinating a sequence of complex financial transactions. We demonstrate the easy to use DSL, show how the system copes with failure, and discuss this overall approach to building scalable transactional systems in an event-driven streaming context.

The introduction covers the following
1. What are Microservices and why should be use this paradigm?
2. 12 factor apps and how Microservices make it easier to create them
3. Characteristics of Microservices

Camel Kafka Connectors: Tune Kafka to “Speak” with (Almost) Everything (Andre...HostedbyConfluent
Apache Kafka is getting used as an event backbone in new organizations every day. We would love to send every byte of data through the event bus. However, most of the time, connecting to simple third party applications and services becomes a headache that involves several lines of code and additional applications. As a result, connecting Kafka to services like Google Sheets, communication tools such as Slack or Telegram, or even the omnipresent Salesforce, is a challenge nobody wants to face. Wouldn’t you like to have hundreds of connectors readily available out-of-the-box to solve this problem?
Due to these challenges, communities like Apache Camel are working on how to speed up development of key areas of the modern application, like integration. The Camel Kafka Connect project, from the Apache foundation, has enabled their vastly set of connectors to interact with Kafka Connect natively. So, developers can start sending and receiving data from Kafka to and from their preferred services and applications in no time without a single line of code.
In summary, during this session we will:
- Introduce you to the Camel Kafka Connector sub-project from Apache Camel
- Go over the list of connectors available as part of the project
- Showcase a couple of examples of integrations using the connectors
- Share some guidelines on how to get started with the Camel Kafka Connectors
At Zalando we use Camunda BPM for order execution. In this talk we provide a sneak peek behind the scenes of our order processing and show how we achieve horizontal scalability in our architecture.
Stream All Things—Patterns of Modern Data Integration with Gwen ShapiraDatabricks
Data integration is a really difficult problem. We know this because 80% of the time in every project is spent getting the data you want the way you want it. We know this because this problem remains challenging despite 40 years of attempts to solve it. All we want is a service that will be reliable, handle all kinds of data and integrate with all kinds of systems, be easy to manage and scale as our systems grow. Oh, and it should be super low latency too. Is it too much to ask?
In this presentation, we’ll discuss the basic challenges of data integration and introduce few design and architecture patterns that are used to tackle these challenges. We will then explore how these patterns can be implemented using Apache Kafka. Difficult problems are difficult and we offer no silver bullets, but we will share pragmatic solutions that helped many organizations build fast, scalable and manageable data pipelines.
A comprehensive walkthrough of how to manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform. This presentation includes an introduction to Terraform, a discussion of how to manage Terraform state, how to use Terraform modules, an overview of best practices (e.g. isolation, versioning, loops, if-statements), and a list of gotchas to look out for.

A proper Microservice is designed for fast failure.
Like other architectural style, microservices bring costs and benefits. Some development teams have found microservices architectural style to be a superior approach to a monolithic architecture. Other teams have found them to be a productivity-sapping burden.
This material start with the basic what and why microservice, follow with the Felix example and the the successful strategies to develop microservice application.
In this session, we will look first at the rich metadata that documents in your repository have, how to control the mapping of this on to your content model, and some of the interesting things this can deliver. We'll then move on to the content transformation and rendition services, and see how you can easily and powerfully generate a wide range of media from the content you already have.

Colin explains the logic behind his approach and discusses potential future applications.
n this session, you'll learn how APG uses ServiceNow to improve delivery speed, reduce work time and improve delivery satisfaction of IT Assets - virtual or otherwise - with automation.
You will hear how APG integrated automation into their Request Management process using ServiceNow and System Center Orchestrator. In addition, the session will describe how the project was set up to automate all these processes, and how end-users are now able to manage virtual IT assets by extending Configuration Management within their own Virtual Assets module.
How To Drive A Successful ServiceNow ImplementationAspire Systems
In this webcast we discussed on ServiceNow Implementation , it's key success factors and the pitfalls.
• ITSM – The enablers and constraints
• ServiceNow – Introduction and key benefits
• How to ensure an effective ServiceNow Implementation?
->The Prerequisites
->A realistic, yet effective Roadmap
->Avoid the Pitfalls
• Case study: ServiceNow implementation for a Fortune100 firm
