Bébé Moïse - Baby Moses
1. Quand les Israélites sont arrivés du pays
de Canaan, le Pharaon leur dit « Toute
l'Égypte est à ta disposition. Choisis le
meilleur endroit du pays pour les y installer. »
Par la suite, les Israélites eurent tant
d'enfants qu'ils devinrent extrêmement
nombreux et très forts. Le pays en fut rempli.
When the Israelites came from the land of
Canaan, the Pharaoh told them, “The land of
Egypt is before you; feel free to settle in the
best part of the land.”
In Egypt, the Israelites had many children.
They increased in numbers and the land was
filled with them.
2. Cependant, plusieurs années
plus tard un nouveau roi
parvint au pouvoir en Egypte
et il traitèrent les Israélites
durement, comme des
esclaves.
However, some years later a
new king came to power and
he made the Israelites his
slaves.
3. Alors le Pharaon ordonna
à tout son peuple : « Jetez
dans le Nil tout garçon
hébreu nouveau-né !
Then the king told his men,
“Throw all the Israelite
baby boys in the Nile
River!”
A woman named Jochebed gave birth to a baby boy. She took a basket, put her
baby in it and then set the basket afloat on the river.
The baby’s sister stood a short distance away to see what would happen to him.
5. Un peu plus tard, la fille du Pharaon
descendit au Nil pour s'y baigner et
aperçut la corbeille. Elle l'ouvrit et vit
un petit garçon qui pleurait.
A little later, Pharoah's daughter
came down to the Nile River to bathe
and saw the basket. She opened it
and saw a little boy crying.
6. Miryam, la soeur de l'enfant,
demanda à la princesse : « Dois-je
aller te chercher une nourrice chez
les Hébreux pour qu'elle allaite
l'enfant ? »
« Oui », répondit-elle.
Miryam alla chercher la propre
mère de l'enfant.
Miriam, the child's sister, asked
the princess, "Should I get you an
Israelite nurse to help you care for
the baby?"
"Yes, please," the princess replied.
Miriam then went and got her
own mother.
7. Lorsque l'enfant fut assez
grand, la mère l'amena à la
princesse ; celle-ci l'adopta et
déclara : « Puisque je l'ai tiré
de l'eau, je lui donne le nom
de Moïse . »
When the baby was older, his
mother brought him to the
palace. The princess adopted
him and said, "I will name him
Moses because I drew him out
of the water."
