era of Islam, the Persians learned the Arabic language and wrote down various
sciences and arts in it. With the advent of the modern Persian language, which
borrowed many of its characteristics from Arabic and was written in its letters,
modern Persian literature came into existence in the ninth century AD, in
northeastern Iran. Persian Islamic literature has passed through different stages.
In addition to Iran, the Persian language and its literature spread in several
regions of Asia: in Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and some countries of Asia Minor.

Abstract:
Intertextuality - by the definition of many litterateurs and textlinguists in
the contemporary literary criticism - is a situation where texts interact with
other texts in literary and linguistic traditions. It is also conceived as a process
by which previous texts are recovered from the present or the process in which
text producer or creator reproduces a text through previous or contemporary
texts. Sufistic discourse is considered one of the religious texts that is replete
with a number of sufistic cues and allusions which are narrated among sufi
groups through ages. The appreciable number of cues, insinuations, and allusions
in sufistic poetry are reflections of intertextuality in its discourse. In spite of
some observed positive developments in contemporary sufistic literary criticism,
Arabic sufistic poetry has not been adequately studied using intertextuality
approach. This paper therefore examines the manifestations of intertextuality in
some selected poetic verses of a renown Nigerian Sufi Scholar, Shaykh
Muhammad Nasir Kabara al-Kanowi as contained in his Anthology titled:
"Naghamat al-Tar". It provides a textlinguistic analysis of the poetic verses with
an intent to expose the manifestations and sources of intertextuality in the
textual structure of the verses.
Keywords:
intertextuality, Sufism, text, textual interactions, al-Qadiriya.
