Narrative Design, the case of “Horizon Zero Dawn”Nelson Zagalo
This document discusses narrative design in the video game Horizon Zero Dawn. It begins by providing context on the role of narrative designer in video game development. It then examines the 4-layer model of narrative design proposed by Thomas Grip and Adrian Chmielarz. The document analyzes the specific narrative design of Horizon Zero Dawn, including the producers' goals of a female protagonist fighting machines on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It discusses how the narrative designer imagined the game's history, created a compelling protagonist, and paced out revelations to drive players through the game.
Gamification in education uses elements of game design to motivate students and improve engagement with learning materials. It can provide a better learning experience through fun and maximize enjoyment. Game mechanics like points, badges, levels and leaderboards are used to encourage participation similar to video games. Examples show that gamification in learning management systems and schools can improve learner retention and achievement of educational goals through competition and feedback. However, gamification must be applied carefully to align with educational objectives and not just focus on rewards.

MEMOIRE GAMIFICATION - Quand jouer c'est communiquer, la publicité à l'épreuv...Quentin Delamotte
How can we explain the recent interest that brands have in game? What are the benefits brought by the playful experience in advertising communication strategy? What is gamification and how can it be applied in a marketing perspective; which opportunities does it offer and what are its limits?
To answer these questions we conducted a study in several steps. First, we analyzed how the use of game as a tool and a communication medium results from a double evolution: on the one hand, the evolution of advertising from traditional communication to brand content; on the other hand, societal evolution, with the recent transformation of our society into a "society of game." Then, we studied the different ways brands appropriated game in their communication strategies. By outlining the opportunities but also the limitations of these tools, we tried to identify and define the value of the playful object. Thus, we could wonder if game would affect brands’ communication over the long term.

Gamification involves using game mechanics and rewards to increase engagement and loyalty for non-game applications. It uses game-like mechanics to improve experiences rather than creating full video games. Gamification is a process, not a single project, and should have clearly defined goals. Some key advantages include helping with community curation, market amplification, market research, and customer retention, though there are also disadvantages like distorting social interactions. Gamification is currently in the "peak of inflated expectations" on Gartner's hype cycle and is expected to grow significantly in areas like employee performance, innovation management, education, and customer engagement over the next 5-10 years.
The document discusses gamification, which is using game design techniques and mechanics to enhance non-game contexts. It provides examples of how businesses can use gamification by incorporating game elements like points, leaderboards, and rewards to stimulate customer engagement and make boring moments more fun. The key principles of gamification discussed are making the experience attractive, surprising users on their journey, avoiding being obvious, and bringing emotion.

The document provides an overview of a game design course. It discusses how games are a major form of entertainment in the 21st century and combines game worlds, rule sets, and player engagement. Students in the course will iteratively design, visualize, develop, document, and test unique game concepts. Effective game design operates within constraints like gameplay mechanics. The course also examines the relationship between artist, designer, and player. It introduces students to game design fundamentals and the discipline of designing games.
The document discusses challenges, strategies, and obstacles related to using games in education. Some of the key challenges mentioned include overcoming the mentality that games are not for learning, finding available educational games, and implementing games effectively in the classroom. Strategies proposed for integrating games include using commercial games to supplement lessons, designing new games based on educational goals, and basing an entire curriculum around a game or simulation. Common obstacles to implementing educational games include lack of time, money, technical issues, and organizational barriers. The document advocates for using games to increase student interest and engagement in learning.

This project entitled "Deep Learning : Application to the Recognition of Multiple Class Objects on Images and Videos" is conducted as part of the preparation of the Basic Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science (SMI) at the Faculty of Science Agadir FSA of Ibn Zohr University UIZ for the academic year 2018/2019.
In order to achieve the main objective of our project : " Recognition of multiple class objects on images and videos", we used algorithms from machine learning and deep learning (MLP, CNN ... ), that led to a revolution in Artificial Intelligence. In particular, those methods were successfully used for the classification of objects in images and videos. These algorithms outperform traditional formal methods by their performances and succeeded in creating a system that simulates the working of human brain.
From Game Design Elements to Gamefulness: Defining "Gamification"Sebastian Deterding
This document discusses the definition of gamification. It defines gamification as "the use of game design elements in non-game contexts". It distinguishes between gaming, which involves whole game systems, and playing, which is more improvisational. Gamification focuses on using discrete game design elements, not entire game systems. These elements include points, badges, leaderboards, rewards, and feedback mechanisms. The document also situates gamification in relation to concepts like gamefulness, playfulness and game design. It notes that gamification involves bringing qualities like gamefulness and playfulness to non-game contexts through the application of game design elements.

Organisations continue to search for the silver bullet that will deliver improved employee and customer engagement, facilitate more effective collaboration and drive innovation. Is "gamification" the answer, or is it just one more over-hyped and fashionable trend that promises much but delivers little? Gamification has indeed bubbled to the top of the Gartner hype cycle, but there is growing evidence that it is an effective business improvement change agent, with industry growth rates predicted to be 67% p.a. and a market worth £3.4 billion by 2018.
Gamification is about much more than simply rewarding points and badges, but rather understanding and influencing the human behaviours companies want to encourage among their employees and customers. Gamification is founded in the fundamentals of human psychology and behavioural science, and rests on three primary factors: motivation, ability level and triggers.
This session looks at some of the gamification strategies and techniques being used to influence behaviour change, and how these techniques can be used to facilitate more effective collaboration and employee/customer engagement.
