Are estimates an essential part of project planning and delivery or a waste of everybody's time? As is so often the case the answer is neither and both. In this session we discover that there is more than one kind of estimate and examine how they are typically used in an agile context.
We look at what some of the great minds have said on the subject, from Steve McConnell to Demarco and Lister. We'll also consider the need for estimates from the viewpoint of the business people who have to decide whether a project proposal should receive budget. Picking up the 'No Estimates' discussion from Twitter, we'll see if there's a case to be made for always refusing to provide estimates or whether there are times that some sorts of estimation is valuable.

Livability is a concept that has enjoyed tremendous popularity in recent years. The Federal Highway Administration established a formal “Livability Initiative” and in 2010, published a guidebook to educate transportation planning and design professionals.
But even with the enormous amount of data showing direct and tangible connections between street design and public health and safety (i.e. livability), bad design continues to show itself on a regular basis on our street networks.
If good design promotes livability, then bad design must promote the opposite of livability…killability.
City streets are intended for people of all ages and physical abilities. Let's design livable streets. Let's *reclaim* our streets!

Le renoncement n'est pas forcément synonyme de manque de courage. Ce peut être aussi une grande sagesse. Savoir faire la part des choses, distinguer ce qui vaut la peine d'être conquis, de ce qui ne le vaut pas, accepter sans regret ce qui est…
Lorsque nous avons à offrir notre soutien à des proches qui vivent des moments difficiles, il arrive souvent qu'on soit à court de mots et de paroles réconfortantes. C'est dans cet esprit que j'ai conçu ce nouveau diaporama.
Regroupant des images colorées et joyeuses et des pensées énergisantes, vous ensoleillerez la vie des vôtres en leur partageant cette présentation tout à fait exclusive.
3. Faites-vous partie de ceux qui ont souvent peur de ce que les autres penseront de vous si vous osez être vous-même ? Vous empêchez-vous de dire, de faire ou de décider quelque chose en croyant qu’une autre personne ne sera pas d’accord ? Cela indique que votre réputation passe avant vos besoins. Il est grand temps que nous apprenions à lâcher prise sur notre réputation.
4. Vous êtes-vous déjà arrêté pour devenir conscient que votre réputation n’est pas à l’intérieur de vous ? Elle se situe seulement dans la perception des autres. Vous n’avez donc aucun contrôle sur ce que les autres peuvent penser ou décider à votre sujet.
5. Dès que vous vous laissez influencer par ce que pensent les autres ou par ce qu’ils pourraient penser si vous agissiez d’une certaine façon, vous venez de leur donner votre pouvoir. Lorsque nous nous rendons compte qu’il est impossible de plaire à tout le monde et d’être tous d’accord dans les différents domaines, il devient plus facile de lâcher prise sur notre réputation.
6. Nous devons donc apprendre à accepter qu’il y aura toujours quelqu’un qui aura une opinion différente de la nôtre dans bien des domaines et que vous ne pouvez pas répondre aux attentes des autres.

Vous avez le droit de ne pas être d’accord avec les autres, mais cette opinion vous appartient. Personne n’est ici pour changer le comportement des autres.
9. Vous saurez que votre réputation ne dirigera plus votre vie au moment où vous serez capable d’entendre quelqu’un vous dire qu’il n’est pas d’accord avec vous et que vous ne changerez pas pour autant. Vous continuerez à être et à faire ce qui vous convient en acceptant que les autres aient le droit de ne pas être d’accord. Ce jugement de leur part vient de l’intérieur d’eux et non du vôtre.
