The document discusses Algeria's environmental policy. It notes that Algeria first legislated environmental protection in 1983 and established principles of integrating environmental protection into development planning. The policy has since been strengthened through strategic plans and legal and institutional reforms. It aims to rationally use and preserve natural resources for future generations through sustainable management of waste, biodiversity, coastal zones, and other areas. The policy tools include environmental laws, regulations, funding agencies, and international cooperation supporting green economy transition in line with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This module is part of a course elaborated in the context of the collaboration between FAO project named Communication for Sustainable Development Initiative (CSDI) and Openet S.p.A. Technologies in the Democratic Republic of Congo. CSDI and Openet Technologies S.p.A launched (2012) the initiative ‘Rural radio’ to support sustainable agricultural development in DRC. This initiative was part of the Satellite Way for Education Project funded by Openet and the European Space Agency (ESA): the main objective is to strengthen initiatives and preparedness interventions in the field of ComDev on climate change, food security and rural livelihoods. With the support of AMARC and thanks to Openet technical assistance, a number of rural radios have taken part in the initiative. Rural radios are one of the most widespread forms of media used in Congo and therefore can facilitate a community’s dialogue as well as knowledge-sharing on adaptation to climate change. At the same time, the project supported the creation of radio networks where people were able to share knowledge and experiences about the impact of climate change and food insecurity. In order to reinforce knowledge sharing, the project provided intensive training to 57 journalists of ten different rural radios based on broadcasting capabilities, participatory methodologies and technical notions regarding climate change and food nutrition. Openet and CSDI project increased the technology capacity of rural radios involved by providing them with lap-tops, modems and satellite connection.

Snam's 2020-2024 strategic plan commits the company to net zero by 2040 and establishes a new ESG scorecard. It outlines Snam's role in enabling the decarbonization of the energy system through investments that support the development of hydrogen and biomethane. Snam's assets are planned to be future-proofed to transport methane, biomethane and increasingly hydrogen. The plan also highlights growth opportunities for Snam along the green gas value chain and how the company's skills and infrastructure position it for success in a net zero environment.

The document provides an overview of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies and development. It summarizes that CCUS involves capturing carbon dioxide emissions from large industrial sources, transporting it, and storing it underground or utilizing it. The document notes that while CCUS development is important for achieving climate goals, current progress is not on track to meet targets. It also summarizes that CCUS could help decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors and that fuel transformation and cement production are projected to be the fastest growing adopters of CCUS. However, the document states that CCUS development faces challenges from unfavorable economics, challenges in scaling up, regulatory gaps, and lack of public support.

1) Meeting net zero emissions by 2030 will require $4 trillion annual investment in clean energy, mostly from private sectors using various financial instruments.
2) Public finance can play a catalytic role by de-risking investments and supporting reforms, but current levels are small and need to scale rapidly using additional concessional finance.
3) Blended finance combining public and private funds is growing but challenges include developing secondary markets and attracting more institutional investors through financial products that pool and aggregate projects across countries.

3. INTRODUCTION: HISTORIQUE DE LA CDN?
4. ➢ Engagement volontaire des Parties
contenant à fois des mesures d'atténuation
et d'adaptation ;
➢ Chaque pays doit communiquer à la
CCNUCC sa CDN (art.3) ;
➢ Une révision tous les 5 ans (à partir de
2023);
➢ Mise en place d’un cadre de transparence
solide (juridiquement contraignant) pour le
suivi des progrès réalisés en vue d'atteindre
l'objectif à long terme.
