Syncplicity by EMC was designed to address these issues in the enterprise:Replace Consumer tools like Dropbox. Enterprise IT is struggling with users putting work files in the public cloud because those users want an easy way to access their files on all their devices and collaborate with users inside and outside the organization. Syncplicity satisfies those requirements with an amazing end-user experience while giving IT the security, administration, and storage control and flexibility they need. File Distribution to a Mobile Workforce. Business users need an easy way to push content to all the mobile devices used by distributed work teams (e.g., marketing materials, sales tools, product information, etc.). Syncplicity makes that simple and secure. FTP Replacement (Send Large Files). Syncplicity makes it easy for users to securely send large files and create shared folders with users inside and outside the organization. All with no file size limits and no need for IT intervention and support. Real-time Desktop Backup and Continuous Availability. Syncplicity can be configured to continuously sync any and all end-user folders on a computer. As a result, files are protected immediately upon being changed (not at intervals) and if a device is destroyed, lost, or stolen, users can remain productive with our complex desktop restoration, either on a mobile device or a loaner computer with no loss of data. [BUILD]And Syncplicity was designed to do it in a way that users love, and IT trusts.
File Sync and Sharing represents a unique challenge to enterprises. One one hand, it is far more secure than consumer services. But if users don’t adopt it and IT can’t deploy it at scale, the benefits are lost. So Syncplicity is making major investments across three key pillars of functionality:A frictionless user experience that users love and drives adoption. Strong IT controls and management features that allow them to secure corporate data by being as restrictive or permissive as they want.Flexibility and control over the storage layer so organizations can meet or exceed requirements for corporate or industry compliance, or data residency.
We make it so simple for users that there are “no extra steps”.Syncplicity can be configured to sync any folder on a user’s computer. That means…The user just “Saves” and a file is synced to Syncplicity and is then pushed from there seamlessly to all their devices, both inside and outside your firewall. And if they saved the file in a shared folder, all the people with access to that folder get the new file as well. It’s that simple. There is no need to drag-and-drop files to a special folder or upload them to the web first. There is no need for IT to pre-configure collaboration “spaces” because users can organize files the way they want. And when users access files from their mobile devices they are using native Syncplicity apps that are tuned to leverage the power of each platform. This “frictionless” user experience is the difference between people really using the system, or continuing to go around IT.
Sample security features include:At the user level:Single sign on with active directory or any SAML-based authentication methodAutomatic provisioning and de-provisioning from Active DirectoryUser and group management to set user profiles and automatic sharesStorage quotas by groupAbility to set policies to determine what happens when user accounts are deletedAbility to set password complexity policies and access policies for admin accounts (for example, requiring admins to only access the system from inside the firewall)At the device level:Optional 2-factor device authentication via certificatesMDM integration that offers secure containers and policy control and moreAbility to restrict whether devices can access files if they are off the corporate networkRemote wipe policies for what happens when a device is removed from an accountPolicies that control whether mobile devices can sync depending on battery life, whether they are on a data plan versus wifi, etcA windows silent installer that makes it easy to deploy to users at scaleAt the folder level:The ability to restrict sharing of folders to external usersPolicies that control what happens to folder contents when a folder is un-sharedAbility to share folders with read only or read-write permissionsAt the file level: Syncplicity encrypts files in transit, at rest in our storage layer, and at rest on mobile devicesAbility to set policies for shared links, including restricting links to specific recipients, requiring passwords, and setting link expiration datesAbility for users to protect files that are shared via Secure Links even when movedAbility to set file type restrictions to prevent certain content from being syncedAbility to set retention policies foe deleted files and file historyAbility for IT to access files from users who have left the organization– the enterprise owns the data
