Slide 47When we look at this graph, it helps us understand where we need to focus our attention when we want to reduce our sodium intake.11% of the sodium we consume is that found naturally in the fresh foods we eat and the water we drink.Only 12% is salt that we add at the table or in cooking. The sodium intake we easily “ see”.More than three-quarters (77%) of our sodium intake is from restaurant, take out or processed foods. Simply getting rid of the salt shaker is not enough. We need to also decrease our intake of the “hidden” sources of sodium.
